You know what I just fucking realized?

Starting a business and having some success is WAY easier than forming a rock band and having some success.

Seriously, have you ever stopped to think about this? Forming a fucking rock band and becoming successful is even HARDER than starting a successful business

>Seriously, have you ever stopped to think about this?
I've spent decades thinking about it.

you're not digging deep enough yet.
If you look into it you'll find that some businesses are WAY easier to succeed in than others.

there are millions more wealthy carpet cleaning guys than there are people selling retail on the internet. It's WAY easier to succeed by hanging drywall than it is by inventing new technology. You are WAY more likely to get rich with an excavation company than a restaurant. There are far more wealthy lawyers, doctors, and dentists than there are wealthy investors. You're WAY more likely to get rich renting real estate than dropshipping.

How people get rich is readily available data that can easily be found on the internet and numerous government websites. /biz/ doesn't like that information much though.
>>
>There are far more wealthy lawyers, doctors, and dentists than there are wealthy investors.

Akshually, just to be autistically accurate, many wealthy lawyers doctors and dentists are investors, it's just not what made them rich, but it keeps them richer than if they weren't. Its just smart money management.
>>
>>1764359
most wealthy people are also investors, you don't let cash sit around.

what makes doctors, dentists and lawyers rich isn't investment, it's owning or partnering in their own firm. Business ownership.

It's not a coincidence that almost all independently wealthy people own businesses. Investing is just what they do with their money. It certainly makes them MORE rich, but it's not generally the first cause.

Unless we count investing in a business you solely own as investing, which isn't really true.

We're being over-stimulated, which is in turn reducing our attention span & focus. I believe it'll get worse as years go on. Imagine a hundred different people giving you the urge to get you to watch this, read this, talk to this person, play this, etc. that's what's happening to our brains at times:

>You Now Have a Shorter Attention Span Than a Goldfish:

http://time.com/3858309/attention-spans-goldfish/

here's a video that brilliantly describes what I'm talking about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKaWJ72x1rI [Embed]

Indeed, go back to even the early 2000s - pre web 2.0 with broadband internet/faster processors/4G & smart phones - Life was just slow enough be less distracted with this & that, & in turn made it easier to stay focused on whatever it was you were doing - even if it was just downloading music or playing video games - you were still doing so without 15 different tabs, apps, & text messages open.

Distraction can cause hours of delayed time, along with weakening your retention. To combat being scatterbrained, I propose some of the following:

+ We split our internet into strict separated portions throughout the day. That's not to say that you'll have a tight schedule - you can switch what you do at different times throughout the week - but they HAVE to be split apart from each other at different times of the day.

+ Leaving your phone in your room with the notification volume up, or perhaps away from your sight while you're in that room would help, too. Not doing other things on the computer/tablet while watching entertainment & videos will also be a must.

+ 100% avoid being on the phone when being with someone unless you know that it'll add to the conversation. Leaving the phone at the very least in your pocket while being with someone is another must.

PLEASE, feel free to add to this. As a society we need to become more authentic, with real dedicated interest and drive
>>
>>1764015
Good suggestions anon. If you want to go to the root of the problem, distraction is really just a lack of seriousness.

A person who is serious will intuitively turn off his phone and not multi task. He doesn't need an app that blocks off
the internet etc.

The techniques are helpful but it is the mindset that needs to be explained, the distraction is just the symptom

Hi, /biz/. Is there anyone here who lives from blogging/has relevant experiences on it?
I love writing and I'm willing to sacrifice lots of hours (months) creating content, even if it takes a long-term commitment. I mainly write about sociology/politics/satire.

How do I go about monetizing it? Can I make a (decent, but nothing spectacular) living from this (without selling products/t-shirts and the like)? How and where do I 'shill' my posts? Is it even possible without lots of facebook/twitter/whatever followers?

Thanks in advance.

I started last month. And I have a year worth of content ready.
The visitor count of the first month doesn't seem hopeful yet, as I get between 0 and 2 visitors a day, ignoring all the attack bots.
But we'll see how it went over a year.
>>
>>1763768
I would be interested in reading your blog, if it's all right with you.
I've started my blog this week, with a post every day except saturday, and averaged about ten visitors per day.

Does anyone else feel like it's cheating?

Like it's too easy, too good to be true.

It takes 15-30 mins a year to invest, less if you automate the process.

>>

It feels like cheating when all you have in recent memory, and all you're thinking about is, "buy and the market goes up".

Where people fail is the "hold" part of "buy and hold".

>Welll, the market's looking a little overvalued
>Welll, I think it's good to sell before Trump starts a trade war
>Welll, this article on Zerohedge is making me antsy
>Welll, the market dropped 3% this past month

That's where people fuck up. Thinking they'll be "just a little smarter" and get 15% a year, but ending up with 0%.

Ive been waiting for a correction for the last 3 years. I have about $30,000 in the bank.

I invested my money into the s&p over 1 year ago.
>>
>>1763349
Yes, but only because it's better than sitting in cash waiting for a stock correction. I'd be quick to sell if things look like they're going south though.

An equal-weighted SP500 fund would be better, the boys at the top are extremely overbought right now.

Why aren't you getting up at 5 a.m /biz/?
>not waking up at 5 a.m
>not enjoying the fresh smell of the brewed coffee you set up to finish right before waking up
>not getting more tasks done than most households before most of said households wake up
>not enjoying the peace and quiet of true alone time for a few hours
>not taking advantage of that peace by cooking a nice, full healthy breakfast instead of rushing for a poptart like most amerifats
>not enjoying the peace by reading a couple chapters of your current book, again before most people are even awake (you do have a book you're reading, right anon?)
>not also listening to a good pod cast or some energetic music when not reading
>not taking a slow, relaxing cool shower to freshen up for the day, taking your time to clean well

Why wake up at 5 a.m you ask?
>having all household chores for the day finished, nutrional breakfast cooked and eaten, having a relaxing shower, daily reading done, outfit carefully selected, all before you even have to go to work

That is why - so who up for the real nigga hours right now biz?

Fuck that's the best feeling.

I may be wagecucking (entry level financial), but man does it feel great to show up to the office when only the hard workers are there shooting the shit over coffee while getting a head start.

Plus looking at the groggy faces of the people who don't know how to control themselves enough to get a full 7.5 hors of sleep that come in ""on-time""

What is a way of capitalizing on Generation Z reactionary conservatism?

The study backing up that headline is a survey of 2000 14/15 year olds UK. The "conservative" questions were mostly about tattoos, piercings etc. I would wait until 2020 or so until you start making assumptions about what Gen Z is going to be like. By then, we should have a fairly clear sense of how the Trump presidency and the various nationalist/cultural identity movements across the west are going to play out.

>By then, we should have a fairly clear sense of how the Trump presidency and the various nationalist/cultural identity movements across the west are going to play out.
That's a good point, these are all new movements so we still need to see how they will be recepted
However, it looks to me the trend is clearly in that direction, so perhaps there would be a way to capitalizing on that?

Fellow engineers - I'm looking to create a resource online that advises young engineers on 'soft skills' like Project Management, influence and persuasion, innovation and entrepreneurship. Would this be something you would find useful and potentially even pay money for?

I wouldn't even pay for an employee.
If you are a socially inept engineer, then you sit in the back cubicle and do computational analysis all day.
>>
Important social skill advice: realizing that social skills matter less than leverage in most situations. See also 'the position of fuck you'. Doesn't matter what kind of weird power games coworkers are playing if you have thousands in savings and standing job offers. In that case, you can just respond to drama and power plays by escalating as much as you want, riding it out, and leaving to make money elsewhere if things go south.
>>
>>1761311
Useful: yes. You could potentially get lots of readers.

Pay for: I'd say no. But you could just put advertisements on your site

To a lazy unmotivated NEET, it seems like luck. But to those who put in the long hours, hard work and reap the rewards of success, its not "luck".
