Hi /biz/, due to some unfortunate events, im having to retire early.
Ill be getting about $400,000 and i was wondering what advice you have to help me make the most of it?

That sounds like a solid plan. Just make sure you can spread it out over a long period of time, and also look for ways to generate income through passive means. Rental properties, dividend stocks, online ad revenue, etc. Good luck.
>>
Ebay or porn sites.

you have enough to automate a fuck ton of sites and make mad money
>>
>retire early
>on 400k
>only 150k in investments

You will be pinching every penny and eating rice and beans for every meal. If you ever need a new car, roof, windows, or heating system you will become destitute.

Hey! Hey! The stakeholders in this project want you to change stuff so that your more efficient process doesn't reduce their budgets or staff but they still want you to make their divisions more profitable. Get right on that, okay? :^)

How big of an impact will blockchains/cryptocurrencies and automation have on costs for consumers?

With labor largely automated, blockchains removing middlemen, and cryptocurrencies making taxes impractical; how much would prices go down basically for typical commodities like food, tech, and stuff like that? Would stuff only cost just above the cost for raw materials or would these new technologies only have a marginal effect at the end of the day?

>cryptocurrencies making taxes impractical
if everyone used bitcoins, and payed for their mining rigs/electricity in bitcoins wouldnt that make the price of bitcoins exponential, leading to hyper inflation?

the costs from it in the next few years will help people be more conservative financially, and move money into and out of a country/region, or hide money from debt collectors

if bitcoins ever start to increase the volitility of the economy because of people avoiding taxes/debts, then bitcoins will in turn be taxed to make up for it, or else corruption would be rampant (think russia in the 90's)

its basically a stock, if a nation used it as an official currency then that nation would be a slave to the rest of the world, its far too volatile to rely on in the long term, its probably a better way to diversify your assets with bitcoins than gold, but in the end its not nearly as liquid as cash p2p, never will be
and people always prefer convenience

Is now a good time to start saving to retirement? I have about 7k cash I can put into an IRA but it seems like the economy is at kind of a high water mark right now and I don't want to lose a bunch of money.

I'm 26 and will be making 6+ figures starting at age 30 with no debts (dentist on military scholarship so no student loans).

>it seems like the economy is at kind of a high water mark right now and I don't want to lose a bunch of money.

I mean, unless you're going to retire in the next 5 years, you have time on your side and worst case is the economy will rebound and you won't lose any money. Just put it in an IRA and forget about it until you retire. And for the love of god, don't pull it out when the economy tanks thinking you're "saving" your money unless you're about to retire.
>>
>>1806796
So I already have about 3k in the IRA for retirement. Would it be a better idea to hold onto the 7k in cash to make a house downpayment in 5-ish years or is 3k in the IRA enough already?

I made like -30% in a month trading
Stocks, then I quit.. I only traded with $500 though and I'm glad I did, even though i have over 100k in savings.

Where did u learn from?
>>
>>1806738
from a friend who trades for a hedge fund. also self taught from trading on and off for a long time. was doing well but i was in a lot of financial stress from other stuff. starting over pretty much

So, hello /biz/. I am an undergrad econ student who is trying to go into quant. finance, and I figured I should finally learn how to actually invest (all I know currently is useless theory), and so I tried to find something that would allow me to make fake investments and track their progress, so I can become familiar with the field.

However, everything I've found online either sucks gui wise (tdtrade, updown, etc), or does not even allow me to track the progress of investments in a natural and intuitive way (some only had a "weekly review" to see how a portfolio had done).

/biz/, what is a good program or service that actually does a good job of teaching you how to invest in stocks, bonds, and other securities, cause there must be something that's good.

My friend.....The app store...
There are tons for fake trading apps that let you trade real life stocks with fake money. Good practice with zero losses.
Other than that I would recommend you get familiar with excel. If you don't want to buy Microsoft office you could download the free software called Open office. Exact same shit but free.
So yeah...check out the app store and download open office. All free of charge buddy.....
>>
>>1806716
do you know how to program? that is basically a requirement for quant finance. If you do, you can use zipline to simulate historical performance

Will accounting still exist in twenty years? Could it survive automation by becoming more of a consulting role that communicates financial reports to management?

Even if the computer did almost everything the laws say that you need a CPA to approve them. However does automation decrease job growth? Yes, certainly. On the flip side increased regulation like Dodd or SoX is jokingly referred to as the accounting employment act.

What are other things you can do at work online to provide extra sources of income?

I work as a web developer, but I'm a good idea guy. I improve on successful websites and launch them. I also do high-rate freelance and am finishing up a book on Internet startups.

Just launching a blog or whatever won't take you far. Making money online is about diversifying your streams of income, dumping what doesn't work, maintaining what works.

would snapchat be a smart investment? whats your thoughts? or will it just turn into twitter.
10 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>1806616
I'm not sure if it will be a smart investment, but I suppose you have 2 other companies in the field that you could say are somewhat similar: Twitter and Facebook.

If it ends up like Twitter, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, as there was some hype at the beginning for a few days that you could profit from. Being like Facebook makes it a more long-term investment. Either way, it might be worth it to get in at the very beginning. Obviously don't divulge a lot of money into it, but I think regardless, with some quick movements and keeping greed in check, you should be able to make some money from it.

I'm in college and have heard a little bit about these. Not interested in using them, but are they commonly used in the financial industry and, more importantly, are they memes or do they actually work? Also, throw in modafinil onto that list. I've heard a little bit about it but don't really know about it.

I'm not interested in doing them, but I am worried that if I go into the financial industry I may be pushed into using them by the quantity of work. Any anons have any experience stories or general knowledge?

well the important thing to remember is this: you either need them in which case they calm you down or you don't need them and in this case they fuck up your dopamine receptors and brain chemistry permanently and just wind you up.
