Okay /biz/ I need advice, I've been running a demo stock account for about a month now. I started off with 100k and in just over a month I've almost doubled the money. 100k to 180k in 5 weeks. Can and should trading stocks realistically be my career? I don't want to work for anyone and if this type of income could happen in real life I'd be set to do whatever I want. Should I try to make this my career?

It depends. Did you make all that money by putting 100k on a single penny stock? Then no.

Did you make all that money by finding a very specific, targeted strategy in a single sector and exactly adhering to it day after day even though your intuition might contradict it? Then maybe. You need a larger sample size though- Make several more accounts, use each to invest in different sectors. Try to see how much you can make in 3 months, which is a timeframe that is just long enough that it starts to smooth out variance (One entire business quarter).
>>
>>1806813
The stock market is what, 500 years old or so if you're counting its inception in Antwerp? Are you going to judge your performance by a single months running time?

Start investing, but dont be overconfident.
>>
>>1806817
I've made the money from multiple things, from investing in things advertised during the super bowl, investing in tesla when new products are coming out, and following Warren buffet when he invested a lot in apple.

Noted, thanks.

Im 22 and just learned about filling taxes ....
Ive been working since I was like 16 or 17, and my taxes were always taken off before I even get paid, do I still need to phial taxes?
Like on my paycheck the top part says Social security tax: xxx
Income tax: xxx
Disability tax: xxx
and that type of stuff, do I have to do taxes still or is that just for people who work under the table type jobs or stock trades??

I only found out because my robinhood account emailedme something about tax docs then I did some googling

I was sharing my computer with my brother when we both bet heavy on a game.
I put 9 coins and he put up about 8
We win, and I get 17 and he gets 15
Suddenly both accounts get locked for "multi-accounting"
They literally took the bet no problem, and locked us out when we won.
mfw there's a combine 32 bitcoins locked
I panic and move them to a different account by playing poker
manage to withdraw about 4
The remaining 28 get locked
nitrogensports says they're reviewing my account

I can't believe this happened it's literally most of my savings locked and under review.

Am I scammed out of all of my memecoins?
Is there anything I can do to get them back.

Yeah you can't run two accounts from 1ip/computer lol, people would just avoid limits by doing this, you didn't get scammed, you broke t&c's. You could maybe grovel and hopefully get something back.

Yeah there's no disputing that the bets were placed from the same ip
I really hope we can get something back

It's quite an interesting question.

The way I'm learning to manage my own money is by actively managing it myself trading options. I'll be using a margin account where I'll never have more than half of it being used as buying power. So even if there are catastrophic events I'll still be protected and never have all of my capital at risk.

Larger gains, using less capital and with less risk.

also, is payment done during boot camp? i owe 300/month for car and phone bill, the car is to my parents and i dont want to fuck them over out of a grand
>>
They make you start a bank account for your pay. Your recruiter will set it up if you don't already have a bank account. You don't get paid until after your first moth in Basic Training and you won't have much access to banking during basic so just make sure mom and dad can cover you a month if they need to, after that its's every 1st and 15th. You can look up pay grades online. The military almost always accomodates expenses and they give you a yearly clothing allowance. If you want to save money set up allotments to be taken out of your check. Thrift Savings Plan especially.
>>
Not many expenses after allowances. You can save a lot of money. A lot of service members spend a lot and waste their money though, but that's not uncommon for young adults who suddenly have a lot more money than they've had before.

I live in a pretty big city and I had a friend a few years back who made a small fortune (150-200k) over the course of a year or two just by collecting scrap metal and selling it.
When I was with him, we were only making a few bucks here and there by buying catalytic converters and selling the metal to scrap collectors for more money. But a few years before he had a big truck that he would use to pick up the metal and he had recruited some of his friends to help him.
He eventually fucked it all up by being arrested for attempted murder (which he somehow miraculously got out of) and he became an alcoholic. He got his girlfriend pregnant too and he was chronically depressed. He was looking to start it up again, but life kept getting in the way. We lost touch.
I can't really contact him because or friendship didn't end too well and he's a sneaky jew, but his story still fascinates me.
How can I make this into a lucrative business? Apparently there are quite a few people who have made it work, but I don't have many details.
How would I go about finding the scrap metal in the first place?
Are there territorial disputes that I need to be aware of?
Does anyone here know more about this than I do?

I see lots of ads on Kijiji (basically craigslist) about people collecting metal/scrap metal for free. Seems to work very well, especially if it's like stoves and fridges, since it's hard to get rid of them. They pick it up for free, so yeah. Otherwise no idea. Perhaps some scrapyards, auto or not?
>>
You're going to get involved with a bunch of sketchy methheads OP, stay clear of that field.
>>
>>1803943
You need to have a large storage space with walls and barbed wire, because your main competition will be heroin addicts (no joke).

You need to collect a bunch of scrap and then wait for the market to get better (let me guess, your friend made his fortune in 2012 when scrap metal sold at an all time high?) and then sell.

Higher minimum wage ->

More spending power beyond bare necessities, money gets actually saved for bigger purchases rather than quick fixes (alcohol, drugs) ->

Higher level of demand in products creates more demand for labor and creates more jobs ->

Innovative enterprises have an easier time to get off the ground, traditional businesses profit from higher consumption ->

Higher national utility and happiness overall

So why do people oppose raising the minimum wage again?

thats about it though
>>
>>1799710
I think we should raise it to around $100 an hour.
That way, everyone can stay connected with current tech, buy homes, and contribute to worthy charities.
>>
>>1799710
Raising the minimun wage will mean that the worth of your labour is raised without the quality of your labour being raised. So you are earining more than you deserve. And if yo are earning more than you are contributing you will most likely lose your job. So if a bunch of low-skilled workers lose their jobs they will depend on welfare and cost society. Immigrants will also see the amount of low skilled work and come in. They will work in the black market. sooo yeah

how do rich people avoid paying taxes?

I'm working as a "contractor" for a courier service and I made $48K last year and owe $9800 (not including state taxes, and lying to avoid the Obamacare penalty)

I filed my taxes with H&R Block's website. By default I owed about $12,000, and even though I entered $10,200 in business expenses (my car, cell expenses, gas, repairs, etc.) the amount owed only went down to $8400 (not including state taxes). I was under the impression that I was going to be able to write all of these things off?

$8400 doesn't seem that bad percentage wise, but a huge portion of my income was going to helping my sister and her family. I can't write her off as a dependent though since she does her own taxes. I thought my immense car and gas expenses would be enough to write off.

Does this sound right? Is this what being a wagecuck is like? I left the warm buzzing comfort of mommys basement to pay a quarter of my income into the spic-nig cycle? Everyone else does this willingly without flinching? There must be a way out. Something I'm overlooking. Can the penny pinching financial wizards of /biz/ share their wisdom?

Good evening, everyone.

I really didn't know where to ask this sort of question, at least, not until I found this board, so if I conduct myself in way that makes me sound like a freshman walking in on his first fraternity house, you know why. So where to start:

I've been wanting to make money producing artwork online.

>"And then, and then he says, he says, 'I'm gonna make money selling art'! Hahahahahahahaha!!!"

That's...I, uh...sh-shut up.

Anyway, I've been wanting to produce a series of comics and games online, but the problem is, the subject matter is, to say the least, not under everyone's preferences, outside a particular community with a specific fetish in said subject matter.

>Is it pedophilia?

I can assure you, it's not pedophilia...Seriously, it's not.

Nonetheless, I want make a business off of this, but I also don't want anything that could be traced back to my real name...to be traced back to my real name.

My aim, overall, is keep a distance between my offline self from my online self so that my ancestors don't go looking back at my past and go, "Mommy, what did our great great great uncle Rodney do for a living?" and then have their mom go, "We don't speak of uncle "SplergMaster" Rodney."

I've been reading that you could use some kind of masking service to hide your real credit card information under a generated credit card number so that the only people who would know about the person receiving money under said generated card was the people handling the masking service. However, I'm not sure how private or legal that business practice is, and if there's any chance of that kind of information getting out or causing any legal problems down the line.

So to summarize, my questions are:

1. Is there a private and legal way to hide behind some sort of masking service so that there's distance myself and my online persona?
2. What are those ways?
3. I swear to God, it's not pedophilia.

why do you think here is a better place than reddit to ask questions

there is a long line of cucks with usernames who will give you real info so they can get thumbs up

why would you come here

i doubt your efficacy as a businessperson due to your choice of 4chan as your information source

please advise

sincerely,

>>
I think you are sincere.

You can use whatever name you want. Artists and writers use pen names all the time. My wife's artist name is not her real name.

You can use virtual credit cards yes. That is fine. You can ship stuff to your assumed name that's fine.

You wont recieve payments to that credit card though. You need a merchant account for that.

You can register domains to your assumed name.

You can set up a DBA doing business as your new name, but there will be a record attaching your trade name to your real name. You can set up an LLC in a privacy friendly state that doesn't disclose the officer names. Wyoming, Nevada, and New Mexico come to mind.

Use this company to register your merchant account. So your paypal shows up as 'assumed name'

Or take bitcoins.

So /biz/, I might have terminal cancer. Medical drama aside, this was an entirely preventable situation and I intend to sue for a lot of money before I'm gone. This is such a bad case of negligence that I expect them to settle for around $10mil.

I'm only 22 years old, so my plan is to use $2mil of that to get frozen so that they can take the cancer out of my body in 30-60 years and I can live out the remainder of my life.

My uni is about to open a brand new building in the fall, and I was hoping to donate $4mil and try to get it named after me. My thinking is that if I have a building named after me then hopefully people will care enough to revive me.

That leaves $4mil. I want to set up some kind of foundation to give out some scholarships and also to work on reviving me. Where is a safe place that I can put the money for the next ~50 years to grow without any intervention on my part?

I'd also appreciate feedback on this plan.

Youll get $/€200,000 at the least.
>>
You know you can freeze yourself for free if you just drink as much everclear as you can, sit in an industrial freezer for 3 hours, then have someone shove your frozen corpse off of a nine story building, so that when your body hits the ground it freezes instantly. Hoping that you dont land head first, your brain will instantly be frozen and you can live out the rest of your cyborg life

Will writing a book bring me loads of cash?
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
When did you last buy a book? How many of your friends bought a book in the last month?

That should about tell you.
>>
>>1808151
I buy lots of books almost daily. I sell them on Amazon. It made me realize how many people actually read books, giving me this idea.
>>
>>1808105
I think it really depends on what you're trying to do OP. Writing one book may or may not bring you loads of cash. It's hard to say what will catch on and what won't.

Writing a book is a lot of hard work and if your only motivation is hoping it will be the next big thing you will probably be very disappointed. I wouldn't let that discourage you if it's something you really want to do.

If you can get to the point where you can churn out decently written stories with the potential for franchise then you might get loads of cash.

Think like Tom Clancy or Stephen King. They're not necessarily the next Shakespeare or something but they figured out a way to consistently pump out readable content and made a lot of cash off of it.

I want to major in finance, but right now i'm only taking basic core classes at community college because it's only like 1k a semester and I don't have living expenses.
I have a little over 25k in my account and plan to keep that for a 4-year college.
I was thinking about either going to the 4-year college this coming semester and doing 3 years there (which will be about 60k total compared to 40k), or should I just do another year at CC and transfer and finish my last two years at the school of business/finance at the 4-year?
The only thing is I live in a shitty town, and the college I plan to enroll in is a very populated city with lots of opportunities.

I also plan to study and learn how to trade stocks to maybe be able to have some sort of side-gig making money so I don't have to work a wageslave job while i'm in college.

Mainly, I just want to be able to make a shit ton of money because growing up my mom supported me and my dad and my dad was unemployed for the 4 years of my highschool so we were living on 50k for 3 people

I want to be able to not have to worry about finances or being broke or any of that shit for as long as I can live.

TLDR:
>Have 25k to my name, 20 year old CC student
>Should I go to my shitty CC I hate one more year or do my 3 years at the 4 year college I plan to graduate at
>My goal is to major in finance, and not have to worry about money bc basically I grew up without enough money to support a good life

The 4 year college is the perfect environment to help me succeed in life, but my shitty CC is cheaper if I go one more year and get my assoc degree

The /biz/ sticky sucks. It just tells you not to advertise on this board. So we get the same questions every few days and everybody is sick of answering them.
So now we attempt to make a /biz/ sticky that isn´t shit.

What what would you put in the new sticky?
What links should be included? What information/advice should be on it? What books should be recommended?

-a link to some general info on crypto-currencies

-The intelligent Investor by B. Graham (not sure about this one actually. It seems solid, but gets into a lot of details which might be a bit too much for a beginner)
