People of /biz/, I come in peace.

Reading wikipedia's article on money has intrigued me, and I'd like to know more about money is handled and economics in general. So I have just one question - where the fuck do I start? There's so much terminology. Should I start with that? Or should I start reading historical examples of the biggest booms and busts? Or should I start with accounting or the stock market?

I've already learned how the Middle East seemed to have originated every modern form of way we use money now, credit, debts and loans, transactional accounts, etc. So that was a surprise.

Meh, im not rich but doing way better than i was and hopefully heading to great wealth.

My advice, take it as a casual hobby.

Its easy to get burned out if u treat it like a 2nd full time job.

Find meme teir personal finance books and go from there.

I literally went to a $600 rich dad poor dad seminar, went home, printed the definition of every word i didnt understand while i was there and studied it like i was in 6th grade.

It either made me smarter or made me sound smarter.

Had a scotch with 2 multimillionaires last weekend.

The entire situation was strange but it seems to put them and then myself at ease being able to speak to them on their level instead of them having to dumb shit down.

See, I feel like I can do okay saving it. I'm not even focusing on tryin to get rich, I just want to understand money enough to where I can see general trends and to not get fucked over by smarter-than-thou financial advisors. Also, because I always enjoy a good history lesson.

Hey, /biz/. I'm writing a novel and I'd like to ask your help so the economic aspect of such novel is detailed and realistic.

I'm going to be as straightfoward as I can.

There is a character. This man is precisely 30 years old. He is white, healthy, has a wife, young children, and, more importantly, an initial monetary sum of the equivalent of $100 000 dollars - nothing more, nothing less. The idea is that, when he is, precisely, 40 years old, he must be a billionaire for the story to work. Not "Donald Trump" billionaire, but just enough to be considered one. He would initially start with something simple like running a pub or store, and, by the age of 40, he must be a nationally appreciated celebrity who runs phone, software, car and cellphone companies.

So my first question is how can he get there, considering it's only a 10 years span?

Considering that when he was 30, the year was 2006, then maybe he could benefit from the crash? If yes, how could that be? If he does have to benefit from 2008, please make it so he's not leeching on other's peoples poverty, as the character is a hero.

My second question is how can a country get money.

By 2018, this character will be elected president of a third world country, and, within only two mandates, turn it into a first world power. So he will need shit tons of money to do the impossible: one tenth of taxes with ten times more government investments - all in superavit.

Where can all that money come from? I was thinking the IMF, the WB and the BIS would play vital parts in this. Consider that the character has a "power" to convince (read: brainwash) a max number of some 50 or 100 people into doing whatever he wants without other people (even the targets themselves) notiching it. So one possibility would be simply loans with 0% interest rates or donations by big banks, but that's too simple and I'd like something more "complex" and "believable".

Remember this is fiction, so some rules can be bent and others, broken.

I got a business, I made how I want the site to look like in Photoshop. What's the cheapest place to get a wordpress site done from it ( slave wages if possible )?

I know PSD2HTML exists, but I've heard bad shit about them and they're expensive as fuck. Surely there's gotta be some pakis somewhere that'll do it for 5$ / hour.

I can do it for you, won't ask much.
Can't do databases though (still learning javascript after that I'm going to get deeper in to coding).

I know how to make a website that adapts to it's medium (smartphone/tablet/PC).

Was more of a designer and not a coder. Know basic HTML/CSS and only a little javascript.

Sometimes I make money designing stuff in Illustrator. Also know photoshop and cinema4D.
Gimme an Email, you can also make a fakemail, since you prolly won't want you email shown here.!

I have a legitimate invention, but I don't have the money to apply for patents nor the funding to bring a product to market. Is there anything I can do right now that doesn't require me to spend loads of money? I suppose I could try to crowdfund it but without a patent I think the idea would get stolen by larger companies.

Crowdfund money for a patent first.
>>
>>1846800
>I have a legitimate invention

Is it commercially viable? Patents aren't *that* expensive, so if you think you have a real money-maker on your hands you could always take out a loan to hire a patent attourney. World-wide protection is probably out of the question but, but a US or EU patent would probably clock in at only around 10k.

Are you part of a research facility like a university? They usually help you file for a cut.

Apart from that - no. Patents are the only way to protect a technical invention.

>nor the funding to bring a product to market
Working prototype may be enough for angel investors. Working alpha for VC. You don't need to see it through to the market to gain access to some serious money. You just need to show a proof of concept and a capable team.
>>
>>1846800
Patents are worthless if you don't have the money to fight infringement cases so don't bother about that when you're starting out. Look for a private investor who can get you off the ground and then move forward from there.

Can someone explain how this works?

I've had money wasting away in the form of gold for years and it doesnt look like the trend is going to be reversing any time soon, so I'd like to try something else.

How do you choose an ETF? What should you be considering? What kinds of returns can you expect? Can you take any amount of the money out at any time without penalty?

I started a thread about ebooks on Amazon a few weeks ago.

One anon told me to pay for an ad campaign on facebook. I tried to do this, but FB shut down my campaign without explanation. All I can think of is that advertisements for ebooks must be forbidden.

So what the hell are some ways to getting sales for your ebooks? I've released a few ebooks already and none of them are selling.

/biz/, I got a fucking problem. I manage e-commerce for a building supply company in the Midwest. My day-to-day is spent selling product on eBay and dealing with people who can't read the entire ad.

Anyways, I have about two hundred pallets of various types of tile I need to move. They are currently listed as pallet lots on eBay, craigslist, and other various auction and sale sites. Our salespeople also try to push them when possible. They get comparable traffic to my other, more regular listings but they just do not move. They're all in great/new condition, just palletized.

I'll go ahead and sell 240 tiles that are boxed up no problem. The same tile, loose on a pallet for cheaper than they are boxed will not sell. We do not require customers to take the pallet. We even offer delivery if a customer purchases more than one pallet. Our prices are the lowest in the area, I cannot drop prices anymore.

Any ideas to getting this shit to sell? I'm at a loss here and I'm pretty much limited to selling this shit online.

>>
Pluck a few Mexicans off the street and box those bitches up. The tiles, not the beaners. Cardboard is cheap and so are illegal immigrants. You can even mark the price up and pocket the difference - you probably underestimate the laziness of people coupled with the ease of something being boxed and bite sized. There's a reason people pay ultra premium for asinine shit like loot boxes and fruit baskets.
>>
>>1846645
Ask yourself: under what circumstances would one need an entire pallet of tile?

I assume it's all the same color. How many sq ft can it cover? Who are your targeted clients? General contractors?
>>
>>1846645

I realize you think you -have- to sell these online, but hear me out:

go find residential zones that are beginning/mid construction

locate and talk to the foreman and/or the tile guys themselves, if somehow those fail it doesnt hurt to ask any/all of the workers, *someone* there will be interested

if you're really cheaper than competition in the area you SHOULD be able to get it to move there, perhaps not by the foreman for the project (because if hes building 100 houses, they probably have a very good deal on the tile being used due to the huge order size) but the workers at these places kill for cheap material to use for themselves.

-they do side jobs and thus will be interested because you're the lowest price they can get since not building 100 houses at once)
-nearly all build laborers steadily upgrade their own house with renovations and additions

>>1846684
the issue I see with that is tile typically gets ordered in hundreds because so much of it is needed for most jobs, the box size you'd need to reach "enough for a project" would still be fairly large and heavy as fuck. No ones going to buy 10 tile at a time

So I was talking to someone briefly who makes money doing advertising offers on Facebook for other companies. It seemed like a neat idea.

I've been looking into trading stocks and maybe forex, but I want something a little less risky. I have a small initial investment of around $2000, which could expand to $5000 depending on how lucrative the investment proves to be.

Does anyone have any suggestions as a starting point? I'm not employed so I have nothing but free time right now, and I also have a good quality computer and camera equipment if that applies.

Thanks

How would I apply for JSA (recently unemployed) when I have a maxed stocks & shares ISA and £2,000 in savings?

Kek, I have a large amount in savings and I didn't realise they checked, I was thinking of going on JSA surely they'll give it out to anyone who is NEET.

(Can anyone advice a better place to ask this? I guess it isn't /biz/ forté)

ISA's make things tricky, it's tied to NI number which DWP have direct access to.

It's pretty despicable t.b.h, I worked my arse off for those savings and was very frugal. But now DWP says my investments are considered capital I can subsist on. What a load of shit.

In reality my savings are £2,000 that won't last long with rent, bills, etc.

Really makes me question who the welfare state is for.... it rewards people who are financially irresponsible and punishes those who save and invest in their future.

I'm thinking about joining the affiliate program of Livejasmin to start my own whitelabel erotic webcams site. Basically I have very superficial knowledge about porn industry, I just want to start something with a huge potential market. I wonder if this industry is now too saturated and it' s too late to try to catch the wave. what do you think? Ps: I live in a small Central European country, in a small and poor town. So my only chance to do something profitable is starting a business on the web.
