I'm 23 and have around $12k in a 401k through my company (contribute 8% of each check and they match 6%)

I want to withdraw the entirety of it, not to spend on stupid bullshit - but to invest in a way that I choose, because the chances of me living to 40, let alone 65 are minimal.

I know I'll be taking a huge loss through taxes, but I'm willing to accept that loss for now - knowing that I'll have significantly more control of the remainder.

What is my best way to go about accessing these funds?

just lower your contribution to zero for a year and use that money to invest.

You can transfer the money from a 401k into a IRA account without taking a tax penalty. Once the cash is in an IRA, you can invest in stocks/bond/futures/options/etc like anyone can do with a brokerage account.

But the failure rate is high, most retail traders never beat the market, better to just put the cash in a S&P500/DOW fund

Guys I need cash fast or I'm fucked. I owe $1100 federal because fucking Obamas mandatory health insurance penalty. It's going to leave me with very little money to stretch for two weeks. I have no credit cards or credit score. I can sell some stuff but it would have to be local, no ebay because those Fuckers withhold your money for 2 weeks, no point.

What are my options?

Don't pay it. What can they practically do? Or start a payment plan over 6 months that you negotiate to start in two weeks.

Capitalism relies on your internal conditioning to make you sweat about this. They have very little in the way of practical methods for getting the money from you.
>>
>>1968660
This, if you can't pay they'll work with you. They pursue so many people for unpaid taxes, you approaching them straight-up about a payment plan would be very well received. Begin the more time consuming methods of earning money today to lessen the financial impact from you beginning to pay your taxes in 2 weeks.

Hey /biz/

I think I just came up with a really good idea on how to make easy money. So you start a company selling a product that costs X amount of money to make. You then sell it for over 2X, so for this example let's say 2.5X. You then BUY the product yourself. That way you spend X for making the product and have 1.5X going into your pocket. Why doesn't anyone do this? Seems like a good idea to me.

Is a quadplex the key to freedom?

I'm debating buying a quadplex, in a college town, renting out three of the rooms to cover all of my expenses, and working part time for beer money. Is their a flaw in this plan? I want to be a bum, but not destitute. Is there any reason the income from a quad plex, wouldn't be able to sustain me in the future?

I have very frugal tastes. An ideal day for me involves a long bike ride, a cold beer, and some college pussy. So if I can dodge the rat race, why not?

your not considering all the extra coata and fees of being a landlord, not to mention the ass exensive property taxes and actually filling all your rooms. if something breaka, your going to be getting calls at 2 pm to fix it. you arent going to be getting good tenants AND making good rent, especially in a college town. expect parties and peolle selling drugs out of your duplex. when some college kid trashes one of your apartments and skips town, you'll be the one cleaning up AND paying cor the repairs. Its hard asspain work and youll still be broke and probably not be profitable even.

short answer: no, you retard.
>>
>>1968493

As long as the price of the finished building is only 50x the monthly rental rate, its hard to lose money. If the cost of the building is more than 100x monthly rent you will be most likely losing money every month after accounting for shit like amortized roof replacement costs and bullshit like that.

100% of landlords that lose money got there by paying too much for the building up front.
>>
>>1968513
I would live in the house. I don't care about parties or noise, but drug dealing would be easy to stop, and prevent. Home repair is a hobby of mine, so fixing a leaky faucet or replacing a furnace is no big deal. If someone bails on me I'll keep their deposit, and paint the room and rent it out again. I could charge more in a college town per room than any other city. Two rooms will easily cover the mortgage, and taxes.

Anybody else already bought a bag? Not sure why nobody on /biz/ is talking about it. Shit's been going up pretty steadily for the past couple of days/weeks.

The game's release is next Thursday, so I'm definitely holding until then. Might see some real FOMO tomorrow when people realize there's only one day left and the price is still half of the beta release ATH.

Really don't know why /biz isn't talking about this either, beta release made it go up to 70k sats and they broke the 30k sell wall of 120+btc yesterday

I have not been able to find a decent job since I received a DUI over a year ago. My father wants to match me with $125,000 for a down payment on income producing real estate, so the company would be around $250,000 cash.
$250,000 barely goes anywhere in the bay area, and north coast california (humboldt/mendocino) is one of the most depressing economic environments on the West Coast.

We have traveled up to Portland and Seattle area a couple times, and have looked a lot of different areas via google earth, city-data, loopnet, and other places.

It seems like $250,000 down payment can buy some decent income producing real estate in Portland, and Seattle outskirts (Bremerton, Everett, Tacoma).

Do you think a large building with little land in a Downtown area of Portland, or buying single family homes in one of the cheaper outskirts of Seattle, would be better for a beginner real estate investor (I have about 9 years of experience in investing, but 0 in real estate).

Seattle area seems like a much more beautiful area, but the areas I am looking at seem to be military personnel, military contractors, government workers, defense contractors, and military suppliers.
The software/tech worker areas I like for appreciation like Edmonds, Bellevue, and Redmond are a bit out of the cap rate I was looking for.

My impression of Portland was one giant college town, with an economy based on nasty food trucks, mixed drinks, strip clubs, and a medical school.

Seattle has the cool water front, but Oregon/Vancouver has much nicer tax possibilities.
I am planning on transitioning from IT worker, to septic tank pumper / Real estate investor.

I'm not a real estate guru, but I'm curious to hear more about this subject from someone who knows what they're talking about. Bump.
>>
>>1968327
I can't speak for Portland, but Seattle is one of the hottest markets in the country right now. The cap rates are really low, so if you're looking more for current income rather than speculating on prices rising further into the stratosphere, you might be better off looking elsewhere.
>>
>>1968623
yes im aware

I was speaking of bremerton, edmonds, tacoma.

This. I barely even come here anymore, /biz/ has nothing to do with business, it's just /r/WallStreetBets - 4chan Edition.

Let's just go through the first couple pages:

>crypto
>"how much money do I need for a girl"
>daytrading
>"I have x dollars, what should I invest in?"

There's a real estate investment thread with no replies. One thread about Goldman's CEO. No replies. US taxation question, a few replies. Almost no real discussion while the bullshit crypto and daytrading threads shit up this board.

The only reason I still come to /biz/ is because it's just habit to type "4chan.org/biz/" into the address bar. This board and almost everyone on it is fucking stupid and a waste of time. Jacking off is literally more productive than going on this board.

>What was /biz/ like before the rise of crypto currency?
It was glorious. We had extensive discussions about indexing, value investing, savings rates, fundamental analysis, early retirement, and long-term financial planning. We all laughed at the day traders, forex jockeys, coinfags, and TA gurus. There were even multi-millionaires who regularly shared their advice and experience out of the goodness of their hearts.

J/k. It was "sell me this pen" and "how do i turn $5 into $50,000 with weed stocks." And the cryptofags were always here.

Does the USA have a capital gains inclusion rate?

Here in Canada, if you sell a security and profit off it, only 50% of the gain is taxable.

Just wondering if the USA has anything similar to promote investments.
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Well we have a different tax rate for long-term capital gains. It goes from 0% to 15% to 20% depending on your tax bracket.
>>
>>1968271
Interesting, it seems like the math works out the same, but Canada is more willing to accept short-term investments while the US encourages long-term ones.
>>
>>1968277
Yeah, short-term capital gains are taxed at your ordinary rate.
