Same situation I used to be in. Used to take me about 2-2.5 hours to get to work due to waiting at the bus stops, and then I would spend money on the way for fast food on top of my bus fare.
Eventually I decided that the pay didn't justify the distance, and found something closer. Now I can walk to work. Fast food is still a problem, but I'm working on it.
If at all possible I'd try to find something closer to home and live as frugally as possible.

Hey /biz/, I inherited a little over 60 grand a while back. Its just been sitting as I would like to invest it but I'm having a tough time deciding how/where.
It's not a huge amount of money, so only minor investments are practical. Id like to get the most out of my money, and hopefully have a nice chunk for the future generations. Any tips or advice?

Once you're convinced it's web 3.0 and multi national corps are all over it already as a bitcoin alternative, and if your verification aligns with a dip buy what you can afford.

Robinhood graphs are shit and only show you an average, not true real-time prices. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.

Real brokers, like TDAmeritrade's thinkorswim. Otherwise you should be using tradingview.com, stockcharts.com, finviz.com, or a non-pile-of-shit for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.

What the fuck /biz/, I just discovered Amazon's Mechanical Turk marketplace and I cannot believe people are signing up for this willingly. I can't believe Amazon are getting away with it either.
HOW IS THIS LEGAL?
How is this not against the law? People are working for the equivalent of like $1 an hour, probably less. And not to mention how nightmare inducing the entire idea of it is. It's literally Bezo's hiring fucking human robots for pennies meanwhile he's on his way to being the richest man on earth. Not that I care for that aspect, but more the implications of this becoming increasingly popular. We live in scary times indeed, this paired with the possibility of universal income and therefore 0 chance of social mobility is enough to send any one into a depression.

Anybody here work in quant trading? What would you say is the most valuable major at uni for the field? The school I'm going to has a math + cs joint major, but I'm worried employers won't find it rigorous enough.
Also I'm not in SEAS unfortunately so I can't do ORFE.

You can probably get some sort of pure software development role at a prop trading firm with just a Bachelor's. Doubt it will be in the algorithmic trading portion of the business probably more like data pipeline or support stuff.

Hey all. My name is anon, I'm 21 years old and love investing, trading, scalping, etc. I have experience with trading the foreign exchange, EUR/USD and USD/JPY specifically. I did this for half a year when I was 18 and am looking to get back into it. I would also like to invest in stocks, or penny stocks. I will be starting with $1,000.
What are some good sites to trade stocks on? I don't like how most sites charge you like $10 per buy and sell. I can't afford that if I'm using so little to start. Are there any good sites where I can trade and they take a percent of my profits or something instead of a flat rate per trade? I don't want to do long term investments, I'm looking more short term.
