Technically you don't "need" too much as like you said luck does happen but the more skills you posses the higher you're chances of success become. Stuff like loving to learn and knowing where to find good information, having a lot of motivation/drive to be productive all day every day and ignore distractions, having good social/networking/marketability skills, having a lot of tenacity and grit to weather the failures and keep focused on the bigger picture. The same people can repeat success over and over because they have these skills and are confident to take risks and not give up when problems occur.

Everyone selfmade i know with 1m+ in the bank started really early. Exemplary: one dude started with 14 reselling old electronics he repaired himself and then expanding. So when the normies finished their master degrees he had already 10 years more bussiness experience with a good profit instead of debt from which he expanded forming a international company.

JSON is your best bet for storing data temporarily. MySQL if you want permanent. I only say JSON, cause' it's universally accepted by pretty much every language.

You should not be building this kind of crap yourself for other reasons than as a hobby.

If you do proceed I would recommend Apache Cassandra as your DB (it can store JSON!), paired with ElasticSearch for your search engine. This combo will make for some awsome horizontal scaling. Make sure you put it in the cloud and buy plenty of nodes and storage.

Actual real world application, backed by big companies, with the goal of a global decentralized network using blockchain technology. It was shilled hard on /biz/ a year ago, and I took a leap of faith and made my money 5 times over on my investment. I highly recommend still buying some.

A more recent one. Poswallet.com (proof of stake wallet) is a crypto exchange like Bittrex or Polo, only it has a coin (posw coin) that can be used to earn stakes as well as monthly dividends. The dividends come from the recenue made from POSW's exchange; the next payout is on the 29th. It also has faucets, interesting membership options, and is working on new features like a store and a better UI. It's still in its infancy and posw is very cheap, but I converted all my ETH into POSW last week so i have faith in the project. Expect big things to come for it within the year.
