BTC splits into the new and old version. Most exchanges choose the new version and likely drop the old version. Due to the fork BTC prices drop.
Eth is secure for now so it will go up.
Due to declining BTC prices alts will go up to be able to transfer the coins into the new version when it's more stable and the switch is complete.

Listen fucks, here's a tip.
This coin is getting shit on after its initial hype train from unfounded rumors two weeks ago. Everybody was expecting news at a Mortgage conference this last week and there was none. The coin's network serendipitously (for you) started shitting the bed this last week.
FCT reached an ATH near .0135 just 3 days ago after doubling on the 6th. This spike occurred within days of a few articles circulating around about how FCT is one of the most underrated coins. It's since retraced to .00866 after what I just mentioned in the last paragraph. Additionally, a fuck ton of people are pulling out and chasing ETH highs while it is at its ATH.
The articles about Factom being underrated still hold true. This coin is
- still relatively early in its dev phase, meaning you haven't missed the 10-100x future gains yet
- just retraced and is consolidating around .008
- has the Bill/Melinda Gates foundation as investors
- is targeting actual businesses as well as the government ($$$)
- has real purpose
I won't spell out every benefit. Search for it yourself (try "cryptozod factom" for starters).
I'm holding and plan to hold until it at least 5x's. If you missed the boat two weeks ago, now's your chance. The team just deployed fixes to their network, their team is active, and there will likely be announcements (product wise, probably not customer wise since it's still early) within the next few weeks.
If you've wondered what it's like to be in a rocket at ground floor, well, you clearly missed that from every coin a month ago. This is your second chance. Thank me later.

Mildly shilling. It's possible to go down a bit more (.007 maybe?). This is definitely a risky short term play, but if you ask anybody invested in FCT who understands the tech, they aren't selling. The prior gains/losses are from people chasing a buck. I suggest reading their whitepaper (for further "fun", Vitalik's fund is invested in Factom and reviewed their paper). This current retrace sucks for me because I waited to invest while reading their papers and got in near its ATH.
The only thing that would fuck up the long term prospects at this point are if the devs fuck up or if all cryptocurrencies fail.
