Let’s move on how they work and why you – the average trader – will never see the big gains from such actions. Let’s start from the beginning.

You join just because you’ve got nothing else to do and see a “signal” in the next hour, promising about 300% gains which might be very much look like this:

“Pump signal countdown: 1 hour.
Don’t miss out – we are going to pump it to at least by 300%!
We are still looking for a professional in TA and one in C++ to get stuff done.
Send applications to [email protected] if you want to enter the team!”
Are you interested? Yeah, who would not be? Tripling your money always sounds good. Why not try it with 50$? They even seem to work intense on this stuff, as they even look out to expand their team with professionals. You decide to try it and liquidate some BTC on bittrex to participate and wait for “the signal”.

One hour later, you get “the signal” which might look a bit like this:

“We pump PEPEcoin!
Entry is at 100k, target is 400k, this is 400% gain!!!!
REMOVE SELLWALLS, otherwise the FOMO won’t get in!!!
Don’t dump on your friends from the group, buy and hold for at least an hour!!
Profit is guaranteed!! Don’t sell at a loss!!!”

You are at the market the moment the message is on your screen. You see it rising at a rapid rate and buy at 180k without looking at the chart or doing research, as the price is rising and would still yield a solid 222% gain if sold after the target. Great! And there is only a sellwall of 0.3 BTC! It goes down! But another one appeared, only some satoshi higher which is also eaten a minute later! This is madness! Another one of 2 BTC which appeared only moments later also was eaten in only seconds! You are pumped and wait for it to go higher and higher, so you don’t miss out your gains. The pump will go for another hour, so it will go higher anyways, right?

Wrong. You better get rid of these bags in the next 10 minutes for a small gain or small loss or you are bound to hold these bags till the end of time. Because after the pump, the price will only go one way: down. Not upwards, not sideways – down.

Frustrated, you sell one hour later at 150k with a loss of about 17% and ask yourself, what you did wrong. Were you too late? Was your clock late? Your connection too slow? Your reaction too sluggish?
Nothing went wrong from the technical side and you weren’t too slow. But you mistook yourself as a participant in a game with good winning chances, while the winner has already been chosen, long before the game itself started.

Because you have been conned. The scammers who run the telegram group used several things to make you the cow they milked:

a) They produce FOMO by talking about generating FOMO
The statement “Remove sellwalls otherwise FOMO won’t get in” generates FOMO – not for the people outside of the group, but for the ones inside. PEPEcoin is most likely a coin nobody watches. It is small, not recognized by the public. Nobody cares if it triples its value, as most people know that it is a P&D if it behaves this way. It won’t attract anyone but these messages only rallies up the people inside of the group to buy. The pump lasts “one hour”, it is simply impossible to generate enough substantial hype about a barely known coin without any news in one hour. Even with news, one hour is very short – without any, there will be no FOMO at all.

b) They call a lower entry point than there is in reality
Remember “100k” entry point? Then why was it at 180k already when you bought in only moments later? Were you too late? No. Because if you consider the history of PEPEcoin, you will see that its lowest price in the last 24 hours maybe indeed was around 100k. But most likely it was already at around 140k when the message was posted on telegram. Suddenly, an ambitious 400% are down to about 250%. If you think “still good”: read further.

c) The target is overestimated
It does not matter if 400k is reached or not. It only needs to sound good. If you complain that it was only at 220k or something like that, they will tell you: “hey, we cannot promise anything – and you still got 120% if you bought at the entry point!”. They will always push the fault on your side. You were too slow, too greedy, the market was not like they expected, it was still profitable etc.
