My mother (in USA) died and we are trying to piece together her financial information. If she has any assets left, they'll be mine and my brother's. She did not leave a will and was generally financially incompetent and refused to take advice.

So far we know she has
- $20k credit card debt
- $40k in stocks
- House worth about $350,000
- About $250,000 remaining on the mortgage

The house needs about $100,000 in repairs. It is in poor condition, but is large and in a nice neighbourhood. The property taxes are high.

The mortgage payments are about $2,000 per month.

I'm in way over my head, but common sense tells me I should keep paying the mortgage in order to avoid a sheriff's sale. I can afford to pay the mortgage, my brother cannot. As I'm the on taking on the risk, would it be typical that I would also take more of the profit from the eventual sale?

What factors are relevant to consider when deciding to do repairs yourself vs. selling the home in poor shape for a lower price?

And what factors should I consider more generally about the situation as a whole?

This never felt right. Plenty of people in the US have $1million saved up. Why aren't they buying $10,000 or $20,000 worth?

They probably have that much in stocks already. These people could easily buy up 20 or 30 BTC. And the richer among them could buy 2,000-3,000 at a time.

I'm starting to think it's all a normie ponzi scheme

Because it hasn't been realized yet. Btc is still fairly unknown. These people are too satisfied and rich as fuck to really pay attention, and I am sure there are those who have seen it.

Developers are looking into a potential problem/bug with Segwit2x.

As described in a GitHub post by Blockstream CTO Greg Maxwell, the first part of the proposal, BIP 91, could lead some miners to reject blocks from others on activation. Discussion on the issue is still ongoing, but Maxwell is seeking to galvanize feedback to raise awareness of the issue.

This requires an urgent response,” he said on GitHub.

^This is just the beginning. How the fuck can these fucking idiots be so unprepared for this?

Because they're desperately trying to prevent BIP148. It's been like this for years. Fuck the gooks and fuck BIP91. If that goes through, whatever form segwit2x takes will become worthless.

How would I go about financing a film I want to make?

I'm thinking of spending a few grand on paying an artist to make concept art for it, and then doing a voiceover video about the plot with the art playing with it. Then I use that to fund a Kickstarter for $250,000. The idea itself is a pretty solid adventure story, and the screenplay is written.

Is that unreasonable?

For reasons not worth going into, I have acquired £100,000 and I wish to make it grow into something more useful. I'm not sure I want to invest all of it yet, but I would at least like to know what are some reliable/ relatively fast ways to grow this money over time.

I have no idea what the fuck I am doing with concurrency, and would rather invest in something more physical. Any anons have some success stories about investing that have nothing to do with internet based currencies? I guess this could serve as sort of a psuedo general since /biz/ may as well be /cc/ as this point.

Options in order of importance:
1. Pay off debt (credit cards)
2. Invest in high div/yield % stocks like Royal Dutch Shell (an index fund or exchange-traded fund is usually the safest).
3. Use money for education costs
4. Bond ETF's
5. Small business <-- only after all of the above

What is Social Trading?

Social trading allows traders to trade online with the help of others and some have claimed shortens the learning curve from novice to experienced trader. Traders can interact with others, watch others take trades, then duplicate their trades and learn what prompted the top performer to take a trade in the first place. By copying trades, traders can learn which strategies work and which do not work. Also serves as a form of passive income when choosing the correct traders to follow.

Where to Social Trade?

http://1broker.me (BTC) US Allowed
http://eToroSocial.online (Fiat) Non-US Only

Social Trading Tips

1. Find Consistent Traders, not gamblers for passive income.
2. Do not put more than 5% into any trade you copy
3. Choose Traders that do not constantly open positions
4. On eToro, stay away from Crypto trades, they're bad at it.
5. If copying a higher risk trader, put only 1% of your account
6. Reassess Traders Once a Week. Do not constantly look at your account(s)

List of traders to Copy on http://1broker.me

Eylemc (low risk)
Cool Hand Luke (low risk)
idkfa (med-high risk)
Boogi (Degen Tier)
Snortex (Degen Tier)

If you're a bad trader, don't have time to trade constantly, or if you just want your money to grow passively, pick up social trading.

Discuss Traders you think are not shit and have been profitable for you. I don't expect this thread to really start picking up for a few weeks after everyone gets shook out of altcoins and need a way to recover their BTC.

This week's set of traders for me. All of them but Eylemc are just using half a percent of my total bag. I double the amount every week if they've been consistently good to me, remove if they get rekt, or leave it neutral if they were just average.

Just a side note, if any of you remember the /ccg/ threads from months ago, that was me. I stopped doing them when I got financially comfortable and wasn't trading every single day. Been doing social trading as a way to still be in the game but not have to really deal with the stress anymore.
