I've got 380 hours on Civ V with all expansions but was always annoyed by multiplayer issues, any opinions on Civ VI? Is that worth a buy or does it need some expansions?

The best thing that you can do concerning multiplayer is to get a steamgroup with dedicated friends who are willing to sit down the full 5-6 hours it takes to finish a match.

If someone gets booted or freezes you can always reload a save.

Real talk here boys. What's the opinion on Civ 6? I played it and it wasn't bad, but it didn't have that "one more turn" feel that 5 did. I put in over 1000 hours on 5, and I barely struggled to finish five quick games on 6. I can't put my finger on why 6 was so different, but it was.

Civ V had the best leaders and was the best game ever. The only thing I would hate in Civ V, and the only bad thing about it, was how schizophrenic the leaders were. For example, i had a major boner for Theodora, and would spend centuries defending her, giving her renewable lopsided trades, even giving her whole cities for nothing in return, and I would protect her and let her empire expand at my expense, snd I would base my whole diplomacy and wars on her various idiotic machinations. Then,suddenly after 1500 years of friendship and all, she would randomly denounce me for declaring war on someone she told me to declare war on. Theodoras pussy game was soooo good, but she was cray-cray

Also, there was one game where me (USA) and Russia were the two largest and vastest empires and we had both been expanding across the continent agressively the whole game(I liked playing Pangea Map,i found sea warfare and exploration tiresome ) and we had both been steadily swallowing up empires for centuries and each of us had almost the whole continent, and only us, Turkey and Byzantium remained, I made quick work of Turkey in a few turns and then lo and behold, I get a screen Theodora asking me to declare war on catherine. I take the 10 turns to prepare, move a FUCKTON of marines and tanks and B52s to the border (I really went overboard that game, I had like 11 borders with Russia and every single one had a HUGE army stationed there by the time the 10 turns to prepare were over). I also moved a huge army into Constantinople to defend it. I proceeded to bomb the shit out of the Russian empire and completely annihilate Catherine and hand all her cities to Theodora (I already had my victory) and then it all ended with all my huge armies converging on Moscow and burning it to the ground in less than a turn, despite Catherine begging for peace for turns. Finally, Pic related comes up. I was DIAMONDS the whole game, Theodora femdomming Catherine through me

You're making alliances without the intent to break them. There can be only one winner regardless of the victory you go for so it makes no sense to help another person unless they are going to benefit you. As soon as they no longer benefit you or you have the opportunity to overtake them, you should do so as quickly as possible.

I remember one game I was playing as Russia and Turkey was neighbor . I wanted culture victory, so I built a HUGE defensive force of Cossacks,kept them all near the barracks in my cities that were far away from borders, so the AI would think Im weak(a trick I learned early, they only sense their border)Im talking like Red Army size.For example, Id keep them in Moscow and have 2 completely undefended cities between me and Suleiman or a few cities with one unit in them at most. However, I only had 6 cities that I built (I didnt make any wars) and Suleiman had the largest empire and was eating up everyone else. So, then for a few turns he was giving me the "youre so pathetic and weak" talk that the AI always does, and I would answer with the "pls senpai dont hurt me I just want peace :(" option every time. He finally declared war, and i kept building more and more units in Moscow while he routed the token force I had in each of my other two cities between us, and I let him conquer and annex them, and the whole time hes cocky and laughing and talking shit on screen. I even sued for peace twice as part of the deception and he would just be like "gtfo". The big surprise was once novograd and st. petersburg were taken, I zerg rushed his accumulated forces with cossacks. DOZENS of units descended on him and completely annihilated his forces. That same turn I bribed England (a powerful navy, neighboring Turkey) to declare war on him and a new front was opened against him. In one turn, the war completely BTFO out of him. Eventually he sued for peace, and since I wanted the culture victory, i only got my cities and a fuckton resources from him for 30 turns. However his war with England went really bad for him since all his forces were tied up in war with me and England completly rekt him and he was left with two cities.

I set a trap for the most powerful superpower and contributed to annihliating him and was left to peacefully pursue a culture victory the rest of the game

I used to play a few games at each level then move up to the next one. I was on my first Immortal game, and I was playing as the Dutch (my first time playing as them, I shouldve known it was a bad idea to start such a high level with a civ im not familiar with) Spain was insane they had conquered the whole Pangea continent basically and I had about ten cities. I was in a stalemate with them, a war that lasted over 30 turns, I still remember what a hard and bitter fight it was, my ground forces were utterly annihilated (i literally didnt have a single infantry unit left alive and Isabella had nuked and taken the three cities of mine that were bordering her, so I remember I basically used of my remaining cities to stack one nuclear missile after another and started firing them each turn just to prolong the war and keep her from advancing her forces toward my defenseless capital, the capital literally had only 2 tank units and a few bombers and I was getting fucked in the other cities by nuking myself, so my unit production was horrifically bad. Initially I could fire at her cities and even nuked madrid once, but as she advanced Deeper in my empire I lost the ability to nuke her cities and started nuking her advancing forces ( I had a really mountanous empire, and she had very large forces moving so they took forever to take even my undefended cities)I went to sleep, and unfortunately, my laptop broke down the next day and I never finished the war. I wonder if I couldve survived that predicament. Honestly, I have never seen an AI at that level of warfare, Isabella was moving dozens of rockets launchers towards my capital and had even taken a few of my coastal cities woth her navy. Lol it bothers me to this day that i'll never know if I wouldve been able to get out it and survive with my capital and rebuild my empire

well I had no choice, only two tank units between her huge army and my capital city,she wouldve taken my capital and gotten domination victory in a few turns if it wasnt for the nukes and the mountain chains in her way. Early on,I made a MAJOR tactical blunder, and invaded her without taking into account that I might have to defend the capital (it was in the middle of my civilization and surrounded by a bunch of cities, i never dreamed she would be able to smash my forces that far deep into my civ, so I put all my forces on the offensive, had some sweet gains (i took a couple of her major cities at first) but her counterattack and vastly superior numbers BTFO me, her conquest of my coastal cities and utter destruction of my navy was sort of a surprise, since I had alot of ships.It was a hopeless cause at the end. I initially suprised her with war because I knew she was waaaay more powerful, I wanted to take some of her cities and force a peace in exchange for returning them and make my military even stronger for the inevitable rematch

Hopefully i can stop being a poorfag soon and buy a laptop and finish it

I think they were trying to make Civ more of a board game to differentiate it from grand strategy games which IV shared a lot of elements with and carve out its own specific niche. VI is an example of the idea being executed better after experience, and the core of VI is way ahead of vanilla V, but still hideously incomplete: they actually copied a large part of its unit lineup from facebook's Civilization, which explains weirdness like Riflemen not existing and Knights upgrading into Tanks. Screenshot is from my last game of C2C which is... difficult to describe in frank terms, but it was one hell of a ride. Never got to really finish it though as Lamebryo is a terrible engine and the game eventually crapped itself after running out of memory. This is just all the civs that fit on the screen.

I am uncertain. Both EU4 and Civ4 are fun. EU4 is for quick games you want to last for a week at most and can't be fucked to babysit every territory in your control, while Civ is for those month-long ones where you want to dictate everything down to what weapons your infantry use and what buildings your cities build. Macro against micromanaging.

EU4 is an overglorified board game with shitty mechanics and boring gameplay. Its only difficulty is how shit the interface is.

CIV is a good game serieis that isn't up its own ass.

CK2 is top tier to, but gets too easy after you understand how it works. Needs more RPG mechanics and it will be GOAT.

Vanilla game is way too easy. Play as France and you'll be conquering half of Europe during mid game.

Lately I have been really enjoying the MEIOU & TAXES MOD
That overhauls most of the game mechanics.
Ducats would be hard to come by and provinces have permanant changing autonomy based on the distance to your capital. Making conquering large chunks of land almost impossible.

As far as I recall, the last time I played EU4 as the Ottoman Empire most of Greeks call themselves Turkish and follow the religion of Islam.

That in itself give me more satisfaction than any Civ games could offer.

Yah, assimulation rates on Paradox games are pretty shit and unrealistic. Thankfully CK2 has the option to make convertion slower (or faster).

I've tried mods, they do make the game more fun but I still can't get past its shitty core. I prefer the more direct approach of CIV games.

the first thing I learned playing eu4 is that being a warmonger is a sure way to get your ass kicked eventually, second was that small nations can be a lot of fun to play too and also that the way to win is through carefully constructed alliances and vassalage

also, as far as tactics go, always destroy the opponents army in the field as fast as you can, chase them down and eliminate them. if you can't, try to capture their capital before they capture yours as well as any provinces they leave unguarded, try to pop a peace treaty just before you think they may cap your capital

if you're losing or know you will, it's fine to give up a little land to prevent serious consequences for your economy
