Best bet is to land a ground position in a brokerage, a banks better than a full fledged brokerage, get a client base thats willing to follow you, leverage that. Whether you stay sell side or move to buy side, is dependent on your abilities tbh.

Brokers make nice money, but its the scummy side of the market to anyone who isnt a broker.

Best odds for you is to do what I did, get into a bank with an IB arm, and work your balls off. Start low af, invest your own cash (pref with an account within the bank you work for). Learn how to trade properly, no CFD/derivative BS, its all about fundamentals. Make yourself money.

When you dont need a promotion, ask for a promotion. Lie, say you have offers from other banks. Theyll freak out & want in on what you got.

Theyll put you thru their training.

Now youre a cashier turned broker, £20k/pa to £100k/pa. GG

then, be a shit hot broker. Do your own work, know whats looking good/bad, understand the entire market (banks dont teach you that, they like to keep you dumb so you dont run off)

Be honest with your clients. None of that 'Im only telling you this because BLAH BLAH BLAH'

Research like a mad cunt. Be a proper broker. Theres so few legit broker now, you'll shine like a diamond in a goats asshole.

Youll have a 'small' corporate client, a fund, or a family shop, nothing major, £100m/£500m AuM, Theyll like you, because youre not a cunt like everyone else, and they are all cunts.

They'll try poach you. And you play hard to get 'oh I get great benefits here', when you dont, banks are fuckers to employees.

Youll get a minor package, probs £150k basic with no guaranteed bonus, you play argue, (you wont get more than that trust me).

And you're in.

Well thats how I did it anyway.

Tbh, bloomberg. Do not under any circumstances buy int the whole 'reading charts' shit. Theres no data there. Focus on fundamentals, earnings reports, economic reports, etc. And when you think you can 'pick stocks', great, dont yet. Learn how to hedge.

Hedge beta, hedge sector, & hedge market. Fancy BA? short LMT, take the beta (volatility) between the two, hedge it out.

Professional trading isnt about making a billion overnight, its about making 'some' with a tiny amount of risk.

A £10,000 acct should make 10% pa. ie £1,000 net. Introduce leverage at 4:1, that £10,000 is making £4,000/pa.... If the trader knows what the fuck hes doing. This is why most bank desks are a minimum of 5 chairs and $100m. more eyes to catch the fuck up should there be one.

Trade your own cash well, aim for 10-20% on CASH, no margin. repeat it. Now you can prove you've got a brain, over the mindless fucktards that broker.

Thats good enough. You'll get an in. Trust me.

Of course theres fuckers that cant trade, decide to 'read' charts, leverage thru their asshole, not pay for DMA & settle for CFDs, who lose the family home on a 100% single position, but fuck those morons. Dont be that moron anon, pls.

Right. 1st, get a job with Barclays/Lloyds/HSBC (if yours a utter PoS), not mopping the fucking toilets. Cashier is good, liaison works too. Anything where you're customer facing, and trusted (granted to a degree).

THEN, do your job. That simple. But only for a year, never longer. Always be after a promotion/transfer. They'll always suggest transfer to call center shit. Dont do that,

Keep pushing your manager to be more in the management side. Your manager will have no idea what you mean, but keep asking.

Eventually they'll give up and refer you tou someone else to bother/knows how the next tier works.

So now you're talking to a true 'bank manager' as in the olden days, not the customer service retards that are front of house today.

Heres where you demonstrate you have an idea about how money works, your branch does a lot of mortgages, guest what you're going to be an expert in. Business loans? Thats your wheelhouse.

cont
>>
>>738899990
after so long, again, never longer than a year (if you get stuck for more than a year, subtly mention you've got an offer for 50% more at HSBC.. seriously, fuck HSBC), keep pressing your higher up, if they cant provide you with ample upward mobility, which they cant, they'll talk to their boss. Now your name is in higher circles, which is great, because you've been the model fucking employee.

You'll then get a meeting, which'll feel a lot like you're getting sacked, for at least 90% of it anyway, and then you'll be asked, 'So where do you want to be'

This is your chance.

You gave me hope at first but I don't think I could pull any of this off. Except maybe scraping a job as a cashier. How do you manipulate these people into believing you and taking you seriously when you ask for promotions?

Guess it was pretty stupid to ask how I can do it anyway, I literally work in a warehouse with old criminals and immigrants who barely speak English.
>>
>>738899990
1st, dont be greedy, dont open with 'PRESIDENT OF THE BANK', never works. Subtly hint that you're interested in investments, and if everything's panned out so far, you'll be put on the phones (feels like a downgrade, and it is, but now you're in the right sector)

Now, you're in 'Barclays Stockbrokers' arm, or A J Bell if you're on pensions, and heres your chance to stand out from the amply fuckwits around you. And how would one stand out in a sea of backstabbing underhanded snakes? Tell the truth.

Do your research on the FTSE100, and be fucking honest when asked. YOu think company XYZ looks good, tell your clients, dont hold on to it for the 'big fish' that never comes. Chances are whoever you're brokering for, corporate wise, already knows. And you're the first fucker to be straight with them.

People like that.

I'll guarantee a poaching offer within 3 months

Even more so in the US, being the land of opportunity and all. I have friends over at JPM that have done similar to me, with the only difference being that state side its encouraged to better yourself/your position. But funnily enough, more cut-throat on the brokerage desks.

For example, over here the brokerage desk is banter driven, whilst in the states its quite hostile. Which I never understood.

Trade floors are MUCH better in the states. You guys still know how to trade, open outcry pits are the shit. We;re left with the fucked Metal Exchange..... Give me the CME any day
