Liquid Swords is an all time classic. Went to see Gza perform it in its entirety on the albums anniversary. That was my favorite album when it came out, and for much of high school then college.
Madvillainy is better. In every way. DOOM is next level, lyrically. He is actually the extension of the Wu formula, and its natural evolution. Why do you think Rae and Ghost both name him the best in the game?
I get it if RZA's production is more your style, but from a technical POV, Madlib is far better. RZA paved the way for hundreds of producers with this style (there would be no Kanye without RZA inventing "chipmunk soul".) But his beats are really basic sampling and mixing. Madlib is nearly on Dillas level as an actual musical genius. That's why Jaylib worked so well.
>>736595301
I only asked because it's extremely harsh and probably the most avant garde live album during the peak of jazz experimentalism.
It was the last recorded album before his death.
Also if you're interested in jazz I'd recommend you check out the channel Funked up East on youtube.
They have a lot of obscure jazz recordings from the eastern block. Somehow Soviet jazz sounds like an oxymoron but holy fuck is the music good.

so was that your way of trying to suss me out as a poser?
I liked Live in Seattle okay, which was pretty spaced-out and harsh, don't know how it compares. I've been meaning to listen to Interstellar Space as well.
but I have to admit I'm a bit more of a normie in the respect that Giant Steps and My Favorite Things are actually my favorite records of his, much like my fav Einstürzende Neubauten record is probably Ende Neu...
I suppose I am of plebian stock.
>>736595582

>>736595803
Wasn't trying to suss you out, I'm a big coltrane fan so I was just curious what you thought of the more "controversial" coltrane albums. It's the same case with OM, which you're welcome to try.
If you develop a taste for avant garde jazz give albert ayler a try. He's both schizophrenia in musical form or a marching band on PCP.

It was an interesting experiment, with a hell of a line up. Eric Dolphy is fantastic in pretty much anything he was involved with.
I found it a little drawn out though and not much interchange over the course of the recordings.
I just see it as a highlight of structural experimentation, separate from what mingus was trying to accomplish, while still maintaining coleman's sound.
If you like Eric Dolphy he also did several songs and live performances with coltrane in the early 60's.

pls. it's a decent album, but it's not even worth mentioning here. Foxygen come off as such tryhards, this album in particular sounds like it's trying to be every 60s folk rock and psychedelic band at once.

>>736602978
GREAT choice. Saw him live in London, he was doing a different album in full at every gig, it was Born in the USA when I went it was fantastic. Was only a few years ago and he played for almost 3 hours, so much energy for an old fella!
>>736601921
Its okay, but not much more to be honest. I'm growing tired of his voice
>>736603304
Yeah man it's hands down the best Nirvana album.
>>736594961
Best radiohead album, dont care what anyone says. Its consistently beautiful
>>736603305
it's that daddy esque manly energy that attracts me so. i am so jealous you got to see him live, and in london nonetheless.
>>736603378
Indeed, it is consistent. It's warm and fuzzy, it's the only Radiohead album that gives me an overall good feeling,
as opposed to mostly catharsis.
But, i think OK Computer is their best. In Rainbows lacks a strong theme in my opinion. There's nothing wrong with an album of what are essentially love songs, but OK Computer's sci-fi dystopian themes are simply more ambitious, and are represented perfectly in the music itself.
In Rainbows is a warm, beautifully constructed album that is musically creative. But I just don't think it holds a candle to OK Computer. Few albums can.

OK Computer probably is GOAT but with Radiohead it's like Bowie: there are too many great albums that all feel comparable, and with me sometimes I think I don't like an album (e.g. TKOL, Young Americans) and then I come back to it later in life and have a much higher opinion of it.
>Currents is crisp as fuck, but Lonerism is superior
well fucking said.
>>736603378
what does anyone say, exactly? I hear a lot more negative stuff about HttT and Amnesiac, and I think those are great albums to tbh
>>736604092
but OK Computer was the last album Thom was writing true love songs for up until In Rainbows. I think if you missed the anxious and sardonic mocking that is present on In Rainbows you never bothered to learn the lyrics. It's very much like HttT in that respect, but you're right about the tones and the instrumentation.
>>736604316
I love this album, but I struggle to hear how most of their work isn't a variation on the same sound. Their work is ambitious and groundbreaking, but it all seems like variations on the same idea. I feel as though I'm really struggling to grasp BoC conceptually. any help?
