There were real guitar solos in the 80s. Just not much in punk and therefore it's derivative grunge. Nirvana has guitar solos in many of their songs. The difference between the normal guitar solos and nirvana solos remind me of I think piccasos quote about learning how to paint like a child. There's something in the simplicity that gets me.
