Most of the time, they recreate shows. They pick a set list and go through it on basically the same equipment in the same style as the Dead played it originally.
They're so good it's uncanny, you close your eyes and you can't tell you're not at the real show.
Right now their line up is perfect and they're better than they've ever been.

The rest of the time they do what's called an elective, a set list of their own creation.
Some people think this is silly and brush them off, but once I tuned in, they became what I chase and try to dose hardest for.

As far as I'm concerned, they are the real band now. They have fully inherited with unquestionable endorsement that thing in the universe that is the Grateful Dead.
They are the only thing that matters, and before everything in this crazy world falls apart, I'm trying my damnedest to see them as many times as I can.

D&Co are actually great.
I head an interview with Mayer that sold me on him before I had ever seen them, and he's doing a wonderful job. The current tour has really been wonderful and amazing.
They have the hype and the scene still.
There's this intensity in the air still that only ever came with being at a real Dead show.
DSO has a touch of it, but it's certainly not the same.

If you care about the scene and idol worship, go to Dead&Co.
If you care about intimacy and music quality, go to Dark Star.

All else being equal, I would choose DSO, but I wouldn't not go to D&Co if the chance presented itself. They're old and slow, but they've still got it man, it's a blast.

It also is endlessly amusing to me that some of the best electronic dance music I've ever heard is coming from the drummers of the Grateful Dead in the year 2017.
