have someone hold it, take some scissors or clippers and chop it right at the base of the nail. then put on some antibiotic cream and wrap the foot. take the wrap off tomorrow and reapply some cream. if still bleeding put another wrap on. it will hurt the pet but is basically what the vet would do, just you dont have any local anasthetic.

I had this happen to my dog. all the vet is going to do is trim it and give them some pain meds. if i's not catching on any thing then the nail just has to grow out. keep trimming it till it grows back to looking normal. will take a month or more
