Yup, any form of misinformation that is so widespread hurts a society. It not only gives extremists the "go" on suicide bombing by making them believe they have holy permission, but even in less extreme forms, it allows people to have a child-like outlook on the world and encourages them to think less rationally. It is important to realize the situation humans are in on this earth, and when half the population thinks "hurr, god will just take care of it", this is a recipe for disaster. God will not prevent global warming, god will not forgive all of your sins just because you said sorry to a priest in a wooden booth, god will not right all of your wrongs. This is a fundamental part of believing in god, and i think it's a harmful way to view the world.

Interesting, i mostly agree with you. Although, i would have to disagree because of that fact that most holy books (the popular ones atleast) are actually sprinkled with atrocious morals and values. Even if there wasn't a corrupt human twisting the word of god to their advantage, the books themselves aren't much better. If everyone was a proper christian, muslim, jew etc. then religion would still be twisted at it's origins. I think they're beautiful pieces of literature and should be read like Shakespeare and other great writers of history, but the morals that are represented within them should most certainly not be followed by even the most unbiased pupil.

That's definitely true, you can find a lot of pretty shady stuff in those books. But a lot of those things make sense when taken in context with what the people of the culture are going though at that time, and those shady things are meant to be kept in check with the sometimes contradicting morals the book teaches. Such as how the Quran states (I'm paraphrasing) that it's alright to pretend to be a non-believer to kill the enemies of Islam, if it truly benefits Islam as a whole. This is one of those things that terrorist leaders quote to get people to blow themselves up, and it sounds super shady. In reality; though, it's no different than a spy, like James Bond. That ideology, most likely, was only meant for people invading and hurting and killing them, so that could have a chance to win while severely out numbered, but not meant to be done to innocent people who are not threatening their land and people. This was also a very large driver in the American revolution, and also most revolutions.
