>>722951451 Are you dumb? Did you not expect this? This has always been what nintendo does. They know that it's the experience that makes a game/system good. Not the hardware. They use proven effective hardware and innovate elsewhere.
>>722951952 Which was their least successful console (aside from the Virtual Boy, if that counts as a console), and was still not nearly as powerful as people thought (texture handling was shit, for one). At the end of the day it ended up being only about 30% more powerful than the PS1 even though its primary specs would imply otherwise, and it was severely held back by the shitty SDK and the even shittier cartridge.
>>722951757 >>722951847 I'm not defending Nintendo or any other. Just saying what I see. Any corporation actually NEED to do more with tecnology. Nintendo are losing market every year. The world needs more that just entertainment. Entertainment with inovation and more tecnology. so this is Im trying to say, cowboys.
Im not attemping to purchase this shit-dog-faced just to play a rack'n slash and zap zap controls. Sounds really idiot.
>>722952499 Why would you walk with one? I like the idea that it can be portable but I will probably never leave the house with it. I'll use it in portable mode at home if my gf wants to watch TV or some shut but no I'm not gonna take it out. Unless I'm going to a friends house to play multilayer. But you'll never see me at a park or a mall playing thus shit.
Honestly I haven't cared for modern gaming the last ten years or so. Everything is MMO, campaign (story mode) is shit, new consoles just have more gimmicks than the last.
I made a RetroPi and that's all I need to entertain myself. Games don't stop being good just because new consoles come out. As far as I'll go is playing a few 360 Arcade games like Super Meat Boy. But none of this horseshit today can even begin to touch the entertainment quality on old games. Fucking kids don't even invite their friends to come over and play games any more, they just sit on their respective couches and play remotely. Fucking shit I tell ya. SHIT.
Nope. Nintendo's shitty third party support, shitty first party support (no proper 3D Mario game, no Metroid game, an abortion of a StarFox game) shitty online infrastructure and possibly the worst naming and advertising campaign of all time (really, the WiiU? This absolute fuck) led them to ditch their console in only a few years.
Shitty third party support just out of the gate will kill the Switch. Nintendo abandoned the WiiU and it will abandon the Switch. Anyone who buys it is a sucker.
I'll be waiting to see, Nintendo's home consoles have been pretty much failures after the snes. And they are marketing this as a home console insted of a handheld like they should be. There is also the fact most of the last few nintendo consoles have had a severe lack of 3rd party support, and I really don't have much interest in the rehashed mario and zelda games that come out on every system. I have a 3ds myself atm but mostly got rpgs, closest thing to a nintendo IP is pokemon. Got all the SMT games and Etrian oddyssey, bascally all the atlus stuff. One of themain problems I find is how dated the graphics capabilities of the nintendo consoles are, which means it doesn't get much cross platform stuff since its too much work for the devs with how badly it needs to be dumbed down to run on it.
I am waiting to see if it gets the 3rd party stuff or if its just another waste of time like most if not all nintendo consoles since after the snes. Remember they promised the same 3rd party support for their last 2 home consoles and never really got any of it.
I'm open to anything by any company but this thing just is not for me.
I'm gonna be paying for a serious chunk of hardware that I am *never* gonna use. I have ZERO desire to play handheld/mobile games, so right there - all the screen hardware that I'm paying for is wasted.
Also - I have no desire to disassemble my controller 8 different ways and hand it out in bits to a bunch of other people, so right there - all the money spent on hardware and R&D for those controllers is wasted.
I just want a machine with a regular controller that plugs into the fucking TV and has a good selection of compelling Nintendo-exclusive IPs. Additionally some level of backwards compatibility would be a huge incentivising bonus - if this thing could play Wii U and Wii games I'd be all over it.
That is not looking like that's what I'm gonna get so, so long Nintendo. I'll miss you, a little bit.
I've never seen a 'normal' person playing a handheld console in real life since the early 2000's.
Those Switch commercials are so over the top too. Who needs to play a game on the bus for 20 minutes on the way to work? How about you actually speak to someone or look out the window and see what it going on around you?
If you are playing a Switch in public, you are obviously some kind of autistic introvert that people should avoid.
I'm going to be in Tokyo in April for a few days and may pick one up there as it will be significantly cheaper than it is here in Canada. If I don't get one then, I will likely wait a year or so.
The Wii U has been 'ditched' for longer than 4 years. It was lifeless for its first several months, had a boost of life during the MK8/Smash Bros release window, and has essentially been dead and ignored by Nintendo for the past year.
>>722954045 The point of the commercial is to show that you can play anywhere be it on your down time or whatever and that it is convenient for you to just pick it up or put it down. Just because it shows that. It doesn't mean you have to use it in that manner.
>>722952928 I think there's another reason than just the name. To me, the Wii is really the first "family"-adapted console they made. Now tons of families bought themselves a Wii, but when the Wii U came out, they thought that they already had the Wii and didn't need another console. Only my opinion obv.
>>Pretty much, I don't get why nintendo keeps putting out gimmicky pieces of shit.
At I guess I'd say it's because they made the second most successful game console of all time and have sole ownership of one of the most recognizable character IPs in the entire entertainment industry?
>>722954710 Nintendo can do handhelds right, but they haven't gotten a console right since the 64. So they're clearly just trying to bridge the gap, making a device that is both. Seems pretty simple to me.
>>722952928 The gimmick of the wii controllers was over, ppl realized that normal controllers were better suitable for gaming/chill, whe they said "look a new console with a new different controller that has a screen on it" ppl were more skeptical about it, also the competition had more games and power than the wii u, it has nothing to do that the consoles look very similar with one another it was that it didn't offered anything better, jus a gimmick controller and thats it.. now the switch has the same or worse problems, for instance new-new-gimmick controllers for an already skeptical consumer public, and the specs aren't even close to the competition, and to cope all this not even half of third party devs interested in the console... they have to literally get nearly the sales of the ps4, to even be considered by third party devs, ppl believe it or not are getting tired of the same characters/game ideas from nintendo, they are classics but thats it, now they are looking for the new thing, personally i see it crashing maybe faster than vr...but offcourse im a simple guy, that said vr was gonna flop, and was roght maybe by luck.. but again i am saying this is gonna flop even harder... just my opinio
>>722955630 Yeah the intel atom line sucks, specially the ARM based ones. They basically cripple themselves to save a little on board space and power but introduce massive latency due to it having to emulate parts of the hardware.
>TL;DR ARM architecture sucks ass and shouldn't be used for gaming ever.
>>722956027 >>722955630 He got burned by an over priced tablet being trash. Tablets are like all-in-ones in that it's all together in the same housing. But that also means shit build quality and bad heat trandfer. So they have to set the speed of the of the processor-the main source of heat in the machine-to artificially low and slow speeds. So you end up with a brick.
How can a console simultaneously sell well and fail?
It can't. What you mean is it can sell well and *damage their future earning prospects.* Which is probably what the Wii's lack of software did, granted.
But as I keep saying, this matters not one fucking bit to the suits at Nintendo. They just remember the sugar rush of shipping millions of units with nothing more than Wii Sports and charging a fortune for a tonne of molded plastic bullshit they called 'peripherals'.
Nintendo, like a lot of companies, is living for today. They care not one fuck if a lack of software this time around is gonna hurt them on the next generation. They just wanna bamboozle you with the gimmicks again and move those machines out the door.
>>722956282 The PSP sold like crazy but because how easily and quickly it was hacked less people bought games for it, instead just pirating them.
This lead to fewer games being developed because game sales were low. And this is why the PSP sold fewer and fewer as time passed. And as they tried to stop the hackers by releasing the 3000 line of PSPs but it sold horribly while used 1000s and 2000s were selling like mad. And the PSP go sold even worse than the 3000 because it wasn't nearly as hackable till later on.
I will shamefully admit that I was ready to drop money on the pre-order for the Zelda game alone.
I did not care if nothing else came along - Zelda would justify the purchase, and eBay is only ever a click away...
But then I learned that the Zelda game IS COMING OUT ON THE WII U?!
Seriously... I can't begin to fucking.... wut?
The ONE reason that new customers may shell for the new machine, and Nintendo gives them the option of playing it on years old hardware... Seriously. Wut.
And... as has previously been mentioned... NO-ONE buys Nintendo machines for the graphical wow factor. So if you own a Wii U, or are able to pick one up at a heavy discount, why the FUCK are you gonna go for the new machine if you're only interested in Zelda?
Of all the evens that I can't, this particular even cannot be canted ever.
>>722958117 Games like Crysis 2 can get solid 30 FPS and newer titles like Fallout 4 and GTA V you can get away with PS3 like graphics on 30 FPS witch tweaks and mods. Generally, running anything newer than 2010 you can get away with Low graphics with still playable framerate with around 3 hours battery.
The point of the device is emulation anyways, getting 5-6 hours, low noise and heat, that it can do Steam in-home streaming and play Windows games directly on hardware is just a bonus, that's why it has a fan "always on" switch.
>>722950528 Not right away... don't feel like hunting for one (like I did for my WiiU) or buying an expensive one on eBay (like I did for my Wii). Also wanna wait for news about Monster Hunter and possibly a Switch/MH bundle.
>>722952716 i'm not questioning the numbers if it's truth or not, but can someone explain me how can there be sold more hardware then software? i mean, if you buy one console (herdware i assume) doesn't that mean you are going to buy at least 1 or 2 games (the software)? unless the ames are not considered software and it's another info it's escaping me.
>>722950528 nope not now. i will way. too shitty looking. loo specs. shitty online capabilities. only 3 old games for a month. faggots. i will wait for a decent game library. maybe I will decide after a year. maybe never.
