Because if we didn't have capitalism there would be a lot more homeless people AND a lot less homes.

Percentage of millonaires in congress? So these people are smart and know how to manage their money and thats a bad thing?
Poverty increasing? I don't see anybody complaining about our standard of living going up (because of the competition capitalism creates among companies who provide consumers with product) while wages remain the same. Standard of living going up is the same thing as getting more money. Except better.

Lots of people are poor and near poverty? In the richest country in the world?!? You realise the U.S. Poverty line is way different than other countries poverty line because we are so rich. Because of capitalism. Poverty in a capitalist country is middle class or better in a socialist country.

Racist criminal justice system?

>Poverty increasing? I don't see anybody complaining about our standard of living going up (because of the competition capitalism creates among companies who provide consumers with product) while wages remain the same. Standard of living going up is the same thing as getting more money. Except better.

Also, this doesn't even address the poverty issue. It doesn't matter if the overall standard of living is going up, the poor are still poor and it's mostly the wealthy and the middle class that benefit from the improved standard of living.

>Poverty in a capitalist country is middle class or better in a socialist country

Really now? When you say socialist, do you forget the 1st world countries with socialist programs such as single payer healthcare, welfare, and nationalized industry?

You only defend capitalism because you're either one of the people benefiting from it or you know nothing of how it really works.

yeah, it's simply not possible that blacks & latinos commit more crimes or are just too stupid to get away with their crimes.

>waaaah all our money goes to defense
why the fuck should public money be used for anything else? public education and healthcare are both jokes. every time more money is allocated to schools, it ends up in some stupid ass teacher's pocket. that doesn't necessarily equate to a better quality of education.

>half the country is poor.
well, half the country is stupid as fuck. why pay dumbass people smart people wages?

>22 empty homes for every homeless person
lol. those are houses on the market. why should homeless people just be given what the rest of us have to work for? what person would forego the profit from the sale of their property and just turn it over to some alcoholic piece of shit?

You can't ask for information about something and not be specific as to what information you are looking for.

>this doesn't address the poverty issuueeeeee!
Next line talks about poverty. You faggots are acting like you don't live way better than people in other countries do. Capitalism is a system designed to reward hard work and motivation. If you are atvthe bottom you simply arn't working hard or motivated. Socalism rewards laznyness and passivity. Not only that but it punishes hard work. Free healthcare is poorer quality healhcare and increased waiting times for more money. if you can't afford healthcare and pay for your own health insurance then you are lazy and unmotivated and you expect others to pay for your problems. You will pay just the same in taxes for healthcare if not more in a "free" health care system. Healthcare providers will no longer be forced to compete for your business and consequently quality of healthcare goes way down.
If you think welfare is any different yo are wrong.
Ever notice the socialist countries that are doing well have zero niggers. They are playing without a handicap.

1. There are many empty homes because people don't want them or can't pay for them. If the cost os maintaining the house is higher than the rent a homeless can pay, everyone would be stupid to let him move in.

2. Most rich people are rich for some reason, they are qualified, charismatic or smart. That's why the chance is higher for them to be voted into the government.

3. Relative poverty rises (can't buy iphone), but absolute poverty decreases (can't get food anywhere legally).

4. Google how Poverty statistically is defined. It's defined by a percentage of the average income, not by actual poverty as we know it from the medival or real poor countries.

5. Wages are stagnant because there are more factors like other currencies and countries.

6. The US imprisones most because it has anti drug laws and a strict justice systems which many countries don't really. The system is not racist, but blacks are in average not as qualified and have higher rates of unemployment and therefore criminality. It's rather a cultural and social problem.

7. If your tax dollar would not be spent on military you would not have that much tax dollars, cheap gas, safe borders and a relatively war-free life. Wealth has to be protected, and you also gain your wealth from interventions in ressource-rich countries and trade relationships with former enemies.

WRONG
unless you count your own time as paid labor, then the research you need to do costs you some more on the short-term. Long term, you don't need to learn as much (unless you're a health nut and you're keeping up with current science) so the cost of your labor diminishes.
I would still claim that in any fairly populated area it is cheaper to buy base materials and cook your own food than it is to buy junk food or preconfigured meals.
I don't have data, nor do I care what you really think, don't even bother asking.

>youre a retard
>>
>>721430862
I love how both sides ignore the obvious solution to the shortcomings of capitalism. Because like it or not, capitalism does have shortcomings. In economics class at uni we view people in our society as "consumers" and only consumers. This is not how a society should be run.

But communism is obviously worse. Literally an unworkable economic system combined with blatantly unrealistic social policies.

The answer to all this is National Socialism.
>>
>>721433020

First, diversity damages social cohesion and this, in turn, decreases how happy people are and inhibits the economy. You have pointed out that IQ has a stronger impact on national wealth than diversity does. Measured with standardized coefficients, this is true. However, as has been pointed out previously, this entails nothing about the impact of high IQ immigration on national wealth. As has been demonstrated, this model actually predicts that a large influx of east Asian immigration would lower national wealth. This is because such a change would represent a much larger increase, measured in standard deviations, in diversity than it would IQ, and this is true to such an extent that a comparison of standardized regression coefficients is meaningless from a policy perspective.

Second, diversity encourages tribal political conflict within nations. People are naturally “racist” whether we like it or not. Because of this, allowing a significant degree of diversity to exist within a single democratic nation often leads to certain ethnic groups forming voting blocks which vote for their ethnic interest and against that of the rest of society. This creates general social conflict, further damages social cohesion, and often leads to policies that are not in the majorities interest.
>>
>>721436007
Dont have to be a genius, just have to work hard and not be lazy
>>
>>721436185

Thirdly, diversity encourages race mixing. Now, I realize that this makes some people especially upset, but there are various studies showing that mixed race relationships have a higher than average likelihood of divorce and that mixed race children typically score poorly and a wide variety of life outcome measures. This is true even of White/Asian children. This is most plausibly explained by the fact that mixed race people lack a natural racial in group and, as a result, feel alienated for a good deal of their life. Many mono-racial people can empathize with this by imagining that they lived somewhere in which basically no one was of the same race as themselves. This is the experience that many bi-racial children go through.

Fourthly, the importing of high IQ people from around the world results in “brain drain” in the nations they come from. This creates nations that are stuck in poverty because they lack the high IQ individuals needed to escape this situation in spite of the fact that their population naturally produces a significant number of very intelligent people.

Fifthly, many people in the alt-right enjoy White culture. This is true not only in terms of European science and institutions, but also on a more micro scale concerning things such as food, mannerisms, architecture, and pass times. For such people, a mass importation of high IQ diversity would change their culture in a way that they would not enjoy.

Communism is great on paper, but it relies on everyone not being human and being a perfect, unbiased being. It's not going to happen.

imho, socialist capitalism like we have in Canada is the best compromise we can have.
>>
>>721436187
So if every single poor person just worked hard and wasnt lazy sudden capitalism wouldnt require hoards of impovrished cheap labour to function anymore and everyone would be middle class?

You realise thats impossible and we will always need a working class to function so why should they be oaid like shit for the benefit of millionaires?

Then obviouclsy you have no clue about the US. Teachers bitch about being poor fucks when they are in fact not. True some teachers in the sticks earn shit, but thats becuase they have 10 students. Any major metro area thats not the ghetto, teachers make bank. Full premium healthcare, 3 months off a year, large paychecks, te ure that prevents them from being fired short of murder, fucking a student, or something insane like that. But they are the biggest whiners out there. If they dont get their 6% cost of living adjustment ler year they cry muh wages, muh oppression. So yes teachers genewrly are overpaid spoiled fucktards

Capitalism moves our race forward, alot of people are homeless and in prison, but look at how much tecnology, medicine and general knowleage is movimg forward in capitalist societys compared to other kinds. It might be athe selfish harsh society, where people advance us based on the promise of money and power if they make something good ehile the might die of starvation if they dont. But at least humainity as a whole ist staying in the stone age.

Although the facts in your image may be somewhat correct, they are presented in a sugggestive way: For example at the bottom on the right, the statement is that there is spent 7 times more money on military than on education, wich might be correct. But by representing the military expenses with a giantic rocket and the educational expensis with a book, it suggestively looks like the formes was about 1000 times larger, because you compare the objects "rocket" and "books".

The problem we have is that too many go into useless degrees and then suck off welfare from people who need it, like the disabled or the old. Veterans affairs retard. Defense spending does not go to programs aiding homeless veterans, actually most of that money goes to general dynamics and other shady groups that sell us bullets at 10 dollars a round.

That statement about Obama being at war his whole term is true, but highly misleading. The number of troops in Iraq when Obama started was 187,000. The number of troops now is under 5,000, and mainly that high only because of the recent explosion in violence due to ISIS. Obama also has the number of troops in Afghanistan down to below 10,000 after they were hovering around 100,000 during the Bush years.

man you capitalists sure have been brainwashed.
US has the highest gdp per capital of the western world ( except Norway i think? ) but that doesn't mean the entire country is rich. in the case of the us, this means you are producing goods and selling them to everywhere else in the world. but because your taxes are so low the rest of the country doesn't benefit that much from this at all. all the money is in the hands of the multinational companies that are making billions.. but trickle down economics isn't going to benefit anyone other than a few marketing agents and the top staff of said companies.
you are assuming the whole world is just like the US.. the free healthcare we have here is high quality. it's most likely just as good as paid healthcare in the US. why? cus the state wants to make the healthcare as good as possible for the least amount of money, so it can save as much as possible. this eliminates the whole stagnating thing you were talking about.
some people might be lazy but that's not why ppl are poor in general. my GF is from America and her parents are fucking dickheads, whereas she's quite smart. but her parents aren't able to pay anything for her and she's never gonna be able to afford college if she has to pay for it herself. poor people exist, and by having this mentality you'll never even give them the chance they need to prove themselves.. they will never get out of that hellhole. which is why my gf will be moving in with me here, in Denmark.

It's a pain in the ass training to become a teacher. Not to mention that you pretty much have to raise everyone's little bastards five days a week. It's not necessarily a shitty job, but the students can be seriously trying sometimes, and you really can't do much about it because they will go home and lie to their parents, who come back to the school and complain to you or the principal about your shitty teaching, because their precious angel could never do anything wrong. Yeah, that's why teachers sometimes make 90k (usually more like 50k).

>Tl;dr: Teaching is like raising kids that aren't yours. You should be paid well.
>>
capitalism works great if you follow it. we strayed off of that track long ago. in simple why tax and regulate all these people/corporations to the point where they dont want to operate here anymore? hiring is a nightmare as well. i get a laugh at the people who argue minimum wage should be 20 dollars. so now you're taxing these companies to death and forcing them to pay their lowest level part time employee 20 dollars an hour. heres a pro tip. if you didnt tax and regulate that company all to hell it would pay you a good wage. and there would be a lot more jobs around. give the american citizens the tools they need to start a business, coming from a business owner, its fucking hard
>>
>>721437478
Don'[t expect these people to understand anything about economics. Wealth inequality is actually an incredibly important part of an economy.

Computers used to cost millions of dollars, but because wealthy investors saw potential in the product, wealthy individuals were able to afford these devices and contribute to demand. Because of this, computer companies were able to stay in business and advance their product, making it more and more available in the mainstream market. Without rich people, products like the personal computer could have never existed in the same capacity as they do today.
>>
i heard someone argue one day that anyone who makes over 2 million should be taxed over 70%. the business man then replied "so then every year when i make close to 2 million im laying you all off and going on a long vacation. come back next year and do it all over again"
>>
>>721437534
not the anon you're talking to. but think about this. 1 rich man only needs 1 iPhone. he won't buy !ore than one unless he breaks it. say, if you give a man who can't afford much some money. now he can buy an iPhone too, hereby increasing Apple's profits. this could either be by raising minimum wage, or by wealth redistribution. or both
>>
>>721437513

nice goalpost shift dickweed. this is aside from the fact that most salaried workers (98%) make over the minimum wage. you're right that working hard gets you a salary over minimum, but it doesn't afford you a good life in the slightest. this is because the cost of living here is outstripping the rate at which most people get paid.
>>
>>721437959
>Remember, there's a no limit to consumption.

Well, there kinda is. This is why capitalism always has crises of abundance, rather than crises of scarcity like in other socio-economic systems. However the beauty of capitalism is that these crises of abundance always end up benefiting the lower-mid class. You know when your local department or clothing store has a huge blowout sale? Yeah, that's because they made a dumb prediction for the product and are having a crises of abundance, meaning you save money on the given product because of their stupid mistake.

It would also be a lot more affordable if there wasn't so much red tape and regulation involved. Private schools become so much more inaccessible when you start funding the monolith with loads of taxpayer dollars, basically forcing most competition out because those same taxpayers aren't willing to spend more money on sending their kids to a decent school. This is why most private schools are reserved for snobby rich kids, because they're the only ones who can now afford it. Meanwhile the rest of us are forced into mediocre at best public schools because the government took away most of our options.

It's not just the taxes and regulations. Companies outsource their labor to countries where people will work for $1 a day in dangerous environments to increase profit margins, because the point of running a business is to make money. Even if regulations were reduced and the minimum wage remained stagnant, labor would still be outsourced. It's not that companies can't afford to employ Americans, it's that they don't want to because they cost more.

most of the people buying personal computers in the early era of computing were academics at government funded universities. this is when most of the computing technology that led to the affordable pcs we use now was developed.

aside from that, genomic technology that we enjoy today (sequencing an individual's genome and running it against an annotated database for like 100 bucks) is directly the result of government funding to research.

corporate influence only comes in when a product is profitable at mass-production levels, which is long after the technology is produced and capable of being affordable.

Having read the whole thread, I think there is a point being overlooked.

It is true that it is a political matter, not the economic system.

It is true that the nation could "solve this problem", fairly easily, with a little pain and some culture change.

The failure to do so rests with "the government".

In this country, "the government" is actually the people themselves, acting through their elected representatives.

We The People (including me) DO NOT CONSIDER THESE MATTERS TO BE PROBLEMS!!!

I was born into poverty (really, dirt poor farm family) went into military because no other prospects. Lo these many years later I am retired, living comfortably on earned income that I got by earning a BA and two master's degrees and working constantly my whole life doing things I didn't necessarily enjoy and not wasting my money.

I DO NOT WANT ANY OF MY RESOURCES TAKEN FROM ME TO BE GIVEN TO ANYBODY ELSE! And, clearly, by recent election results, I am not alone.

Greedy? Selfish? So what, screw you and the goats you rode in on.

This is not a troll. I am serious.

All this has been discussed to death.

1) Healthcare in the US is not that bad. 0 countries in the world guarantee healthcare. MOST countries guarantee some kind of health INSURANCE.
In the US, you have ALWAYS been able to walk into an ER and be treated to a gunshot wound or something and walk out and not pay. That's law. Forever. It just might screw up your credit.
Obamacare was just a attempt at making it so that "if you get ass cancer it doesn't mess up your credit" by creating some kind of elaborate and overly complex tax on insurance companies.

The only real argument with healthcare in the US is "we would like to raise the base level of care from 2-3". But people don't like discussing a panel of people that decide who gets to live and who gets to die (which is essentially what it is in literally EVERY country) so we just do this.

2) There are many subtle levels of "poor" in the US. You can buy a house in the US if you have not done anything retarded with your life and you worth a normal job and make $20 an hour ($40k a year).
Now, you would also be taxed @ 17% when W2ed at $40k a year not including state.
You could also very easily stand on a street corner and make $20k a year in cash by begging or selling flowers/fruit/bottled water and then collect welfare and you would be taxed at 0%. You could also buy a house and probably be MORE rich than the person who didn't fuck up their life.

The PROBLEM is that socioeconomic issues create situations where people are either 1) uneducated to where they have no choice but to fuck up their life in advance via drugs or violence or 2) they just start on path 2 and never leave it and moving from half homeless to actual job is pretty much impossible. It has nothing to do with 'capitalism'.

3) Wage gap creates this issue where if you give a poor person $200 they have to spend it on rent/food/whatever. If you give a rich person $200, they can turn it into $300 or $400 because they don't immediately need it.
>>
>>721437513
Agriculture jobs used to be over 50% of the economy, now it is 1%. Many thousands of people used to weave cloth across Europe, then they invented loom machines.
Millions of jobs exist today that didn't 50 years ago. Computers, technology, programmers, you tube stars, video game makers, shit the list is endless.
There will still be jobs in the future, even if some jobs are automated, just as has occurred in the last 200 years. This dystopian future of no jobs where we have to embrace communism, isn't going to happen.
All that's going to happen is that average people will be wealthier and can work easier, just as has been the trend since 1700.

This is tiresome. If you have made the decision that you will not be a homeowner, that is your choice. If you really really want to be a homeowner, then do the things necessary to achieve it! Education, work long hours, defer instant gratification and save as much of your income as possible, find a super-cheap fixer in a bad part of town.

With the right attitude, ANYONE can be a homeowner, unless their skills/talents/capabilities/work ethic is so low as to make them literally incompetent to function as adult human beings.

Your complaint is that no one will give you a house? Come on dude, take control of your own destiny.

1. You didn't answer my point about VA hospitals. They are utter shit, where people wait months or years for treatment, despite the gov supposedly doing their best because it's for our proud veterans

2. USA is one of the most ethnically diverse countries on the planet. We are not all Japanese or Nordic with the longer life spans, tons of our population is black, Hispanic, or other. Using life expectancy is a flawed metric. You'd at least have to break it out to compare by ethnic groups. And that still doesn't take into account lifestyle choices, when nordics eat fresh salmon and Americans eat the burgers.

Because part of it is a lie. More money is spend on handouts than the military. Discretionary vs mandatory spending.

Why would it suprise us that successful smart people would make up a large percentage of the government.

Even so that part is not different under socialism or comunism. Every leader in those regimes is of much much higher standing than those that he rules.

Homeless people don't suddenly become successful just because they have a home so fuck off with your stupid point.

Home ownership is overrated. Taking a mortgage is modern slavery, you HAVE to work for whatever salary to pay it or whoof - you lose all your money and your home. Renting costs the same but allows you the freedom to move for better opportunities
>>
>>721441025
Private companies want to maximize profits by providing the best product possible to the customer, for the lowest cost (efficiency). Doing this results in profits. Providing bad products at a high cost gives your company losses, until you go out of business. At least if capitalism is allowed to operate, which it only barely does in medicine.

As for drugs, you left out the millions of dollars in r&d. No one is going to invest millions in new drug research, if generic company could make copies immediately.
People complain about expensive new drugs (the ones that aren't generic yet), but the alternative is the new drugs wouldn't exist.

>private companies want to maximize profit

This is true, but competition is what forced companies to give the best product for the lowest price. That's why generics cost so little, but when the government enforces pharmaceutical monopolies with retarded laws and regulations, then the prices sky rocket. The reason why Epi-pens are inflated so horribly is because the FDA requires millions of dollars worth of testing over the course of up to a decade from companies with no return.

The alternative is socialism, which acts as a parasite on capitalism. But you still need the economy to be relatively free capitalism for it to work.
If the government actually tries to run the economy like in communism, instead of just being a parasite, the economy will fail.
Socialism just has to be careful not to suck so much as to kill the host. But of course, any animal without parasites is healthier.

1.http://www.hsrd.research.va.gov/publications/esp/quality.pdf
this is an older study, but largely still relevant. pools the data from a bunch of independent studies done comparing the VA to non-VA quality of care, showing there's no significant difference. most of the shitty care comes from outlier shithole hospitals in detroit and other such places. note that care did take a notable decrease in quality for a period of time due to the fiscal cliff basically shitting all over the entire department of veterans affairs back in 2012. this is probably a big source of your negative opinion of the hospitals since they were in fact totally paralyzed for a few months and had to get their shit together.

2. disability adjusted life expectancy computes in the disease burden of a country before comparing two countries. the statistic i quoted already answers your question.

This is a good way to put it, it's why socialism's success wildly varies from country-to-country. Some countries such as Scandinavian ones make excellent hosts because they're so abundant in natural resources, giving people the illusion that it's socialism doing all the good when in reality it's just the result of a healthy amount of resources, but if you look at somewhere like the Philippines where the country really doesn't have anything to show for it's resource independence, it fails horribly and plunges itself into poverty.

Because people are greedy and we've gotten confused over why money is a good thing.
Money is worth nothing at all on its own it's only valued based on its perceived worth, which is obviously much better than the barter system but it means people tend to stockpile the money rather than use it for physical things/services and it leads to current scenario, nobody needs billions of dollars a year, what the fuck do you spend that on? capitalism just needs a refresh, it's the same as democracy if everyone can have a go and decide how shit should be it'll gradually lean towards supporting the people who've dicked it around the most to suit them

no, socialism varies wildly in its success because its rarely implemented correctly. Most of the "communist" countries of the world are autocracies (Cuba) or oligarchies (China) and have no real democratic input. Democratic socialism is fine so long as your country has protections against powergrabs by cynical assholes. Also, you have to have some moderate people in your government who keep everyone else from just mindlessly throwing money at problems instead of actually thinking about what they're doing.
