>>721430862 Because if we didn't have capitalism there would be a lot more homeless people AND a lot less homes.
Percentage of millonaires in congress? So these people are smart and know how to manage their money and thats a bad thing? Poverty increasing? I don't see anybody complaining about our standard of living going up (because of the competition capitalism creates among companies who provide consumers with product) while wages remain the same. Standard of living going up is the same thing as getting more money. Except better.
Lots of people are poor and near poverty? In the richest country in the world?!? You realise the U.S. Poverty line is way different than other countries poverty line because we are so rich. Because of capitalism. Poverty in a capitalist country is middle class or better in a socialist country.
Racist criminal justice system? >implying blacks arn't degenerate subhuman filth that got themselves in jail.
Tax dollars spent on military? If you don't like capitalism so much why don't you come take it from us. Oh thats right.
>>721430862 id like to hear your plans on how to fix it eg spending policies, laws, investments, wages aswell as how we would transition from capitalism to your ideology or have you not put any effort in to this other than finding an image and feeling a surge of anger and inspiration with out researching if the image is true or why the reasons for those figures might be
>>721430862 With the fact that, technologically-speaking, Capitalism has the fastest rate of advancement among all of the socio-economic principles that I have studied. >Capitalism is the only hope we have of undoing the damage that Capitalism has done to the Earth, or our only hope of escaping it if it should prove impossible (or unprofitable).
>>721431348 Do you have any actual information to back this up? Because I'm 90% certain you're talking out of your ass.
>Poverty increasing? I don't see anybody complaining about our standard of living going up (because of the competition capitalism creates among companies who provide consumers with product) while wages remain the same. Standard of living going up is the same thing as getting more money. Except better.
Also, this doesn't even address the poverty issue. It doesn't matter if the overall standard of living is going up, the poor are still poor and it's mostly the wealthy and the middle class that benefit from the improved standard of living.
>Poverty in a capitalist country is middle class or better in a socialist country
Really now? When you say socialist, do you forget the 1st world countries with socialist programs such as single payer healthcare, welfare, and nationalized industry?
You only defend capitalism because you're either one of the people benefiting from it or you know nothing of how it really works.
>>721430862 A lot of these things don't have anything to do with capitalism though. They're a result of the American government's shitty decisions. I'm not saying I necessarily support capitalism, but I am saying OPs image is retarded.
>>721430862 >racist criminal justice system yeah, it's simply not possible that blacks & latinos commit more crimes or are just too stupid to get away with their crimes.
>waaaah all our money goes to defense why the fuck should public money be used for anything else? public education and healthcare are both jokes. every time more money is allocated to schools, it ends up in some stupid ass teacher's pocket. that doesn't necessarily equate to a better quality of education.
>half the country is poor. well, half the country is stupid as fuck. why pay dumbass people smart people wages?
>22 empty homes for every homeless person lol. those are houses on the market. why should homeless people just be given what the rest of us have to work for? what person would forego the profit from the sale of their property and just turn it over to some alcoholic piece of shit?
>only 1% of pop are millionaires & 50% of congress are millionaires.
and? it takes money to get into office, why areyou surprised? also, a million dollars is still quite a bit of money. why should gas station attendants and other assorted retards be making that kind of money? the top people get the top pay.
>wages are stagnant you're right there. this is pretty fucked. add to that the fact that the cost of almost everything has increased dramatically. yep. it's definitely greedy, but we've already seen communism fail in china and russia.
Homeless people can't afford houses. It takes a lot of money to run for congress. Some people don't have any marketable skills. That stagnant wage graph is bullshit. Black people commit more crimes. The country needs to be protected.
I never post and NEVER post from phone, but this is retarded even though it's bate. First this country is the longest standing government on earth. Name country anywhere on the planet who's rulership older then USA. That alone proves it works. Second even the poorest fucks, white trailer trash, gehto Niger's, etc have food, medical, beer money, housing, flat screen TVs, Xboxes, cars, cell phones. Poverty in America is upper class in 90% of the world. It's simple your ass is jelly. Though I agree with the jail shit that's insane 50% are in jail for pot or mental issues and that is fucked up!
>>721432007 Information to back what up? You can't ask for information about something and not be specific as to what information you are looking for.
>this doesn't address the poverty issuueeeeee! Next line talks about poverty. You faggots are acting like you don't live way better than people in other countries do. Capitalism is a system designed to reward hard work and motivation. If you are atvthe bottom you simply arn't working hard or motivated. Socalism rewards laznyness and passivity. Not only that but it punishes hard work. Free healthcare is poorer quality healhcare and increased waiting times for more money. if you can't afford healthcare and pay for your own health insurance then you are lazy and unmotivated and you expect others to pay for your problems. You will pay just the same in taxes for healthcare if not more in a "free" health care system. Healthcare providers will no longer be forced to compete for your business and consequently quality of healthcare goes way down. If you think welfare is any different yo are wrong. Ever notice the socialist countries that are doing well have zero niggers. They are playing without a handicap. If america had zero niggers the gap between socialist contries and capitalistic countries would be enormous.
I do defend capitalism because I'm benefiting from it. Like the rest of america.
1. There are many empty homes because people don't want them or can't pay for them. If the cost os maintaining the house is higher than the rent a homeless can pay, everyone would be stupid to let him move in.
2. Most rich people are rich for some reason, they are qualified, charismatic or smart. That's why the chance is higher for them to be voted into the government.
3. Relative poverty rises (can't buy iphone), but absolute poverty decreases (can't get food anywhere legally).
4. Google how Poverty statistically is defined. It's defined by a percentage of the average income, not by actual poverty as we know it from the medival or real poor countries.
5. Wages are stagnant because there are more factors like other currencies and countries.
6. The US imprisones most because it has anti drug laws and a strict justice systems which many countries don't really. The system is not racist, but blacks are in average not as qualified and have higher rates of unemployment and therefore criminality. It's rather a cultural and social problem.
7. If your tax dollar would not be spent on military you would not have that much tax dollars, cheap gas, safe borders and a relatively war-free life. Wealth has to be protected, and you also gain your wealth from interventions in ressource-rich countries and trade relationships with former enemies.
>>721432816 >Ever notice the socialist countries that are doing well have zero niggers. They are playing without a handicap. Not for long though, they have started importing a lot of blacks in the past few years.
>>721433076 Exactly. Is it any fucking surprise that that is where the niggers immigrate? Socialism rewards lazyness and passivity. If I was a nigger i'd wanna live in a socialist country too. It's the equivalent of making stealing legal. A niggers dream.
>>721430862 Better to have the chance of becoming and an even greater chance of living comfortably as middle class with capitalism than to take my chances failed systems like communism. >Riddle me this OP: how do you defend a system where a nigger who works at McDonalds gets paid the same as a faggot who spends 6 years of his life getting a degree to become a Doctor?
>>721433034 lol WRONG unless you count your own time as paid labor, then the research you need to do costs you some more on the short-term. Long term, you don't need to learn as much (unless you're a health nut and you're keeping up with current science) so the cost of your labor diminishes. I would still claim that in any fairly populated area it is cheaper to buy base materials and cook your own food than it is to buy junk food or preconfigured meals. I don't have data, nor do I care what you really think, don't even bother asking. This is for anyone who isn't blinded by retardation.
>>721433262 Poor people aren't fat from ordering actual fast food like Burgerking/Wendys etc. It's the carb based diet, carbs are cheap. Bread, rice, pop tarts, fish fingers , chicken nuggets anything that can be ground up and covered in breadcrumbs really.
>>721433480 Are you poor? Are only poor people fat? >I don't really care what you have to say about it because I don't know you and I already know I'm right from experience in different first and third world countries.
>>721430862 Simple, if your too lazy and dumb to get a fucking job thats not flipping burgers you deserve this. Make yourself better, stay in school and ddont be a morn and you wont end up a leech on society. Free market capitalism is equal opportunity not equal outcome. You get what you sow
>>721435660 You can get apples for 99 ccents to 1.99 a pound if you dont get the premium one. Ground beef you can maybe get for 1.99 a pound but thats questionable meat. Apples are cheaper option, and healtjier. So your analogy is flawed and wrong
>>721432090 Because unhealthy food is cheap plentiful and fits in with people working long hours at relatively inactive jobs. If youre poor and work at mcdonalds and you get a discount suddenly mcdonalds is the most time effective and cheap food you can afford so guess whats for dinner. Its either that or lentils and rice every night.
>>721432289 >excuses every fault with either the poor people deserve it because theyre alcoholics or dumb implying you need to be a genius to deserve a decent life which likely excludes his /b/ browsing ass
>well capitalism is evil but communism is too so lets just not bother trying to fix anything.
>>721435905 At scale this can yes but you *really* have to shop around. It's good food when you have the $$. but in the end the bulk foods like Ramen, Mac and Cheese, Hotdogs etc are what's for dinner when you're broke af.
>>721435975 Teachers in my city are making 60-90 k a year, principal 200k, super intendent 400k for 9 months of work. But yet the schools have old ass books, out dated tech, and its run down. Taxes break down to 20-25k a year per kid. Tell me again where the money goes?
Are you fucking retarded Great Britain has had its parliament for hundreds of years longer. France has been a republic near as long and doesnt use the same system as you and is quite socialist. Sweden has been a constitutional monarchy longer as well.
>>721430862 I love how both sides ignore the obvious solution to the shortcomings of capitalism. Because like it or not, capitalism does have shortcomings. In economics class at uni we view people in our society as "consumers" and only consumers. This is not how a society should be run.
But communism is obviously worse. Literally an unworkable economic system combined with blatantly unrealistic social policies.
First, diversity damages social cohesion and this, in turn, decreases how happy people are and inhibits the economy. You have pointed out that IQ has a stronger impact on national wealth than diversity does. Measured with standardized coefficients, this is true. However, as has been pointed out previously, this entails nothing about the impact of high IQ immigration on national wealth. As has been demonstrated, this model actually predicts that a large influx of east Asian immigration would lower national wealth. This is because such a change would represent a much larger increase, measured in standard deviations, in diversity than it would IQ, and this is true to such an extent that a comparison of standardized regression coefficients is meaningless from a policy perspective.
Second, diversity encourages tribal political conflict within nations. People are naturally “racist” whether we like it or not. Because of this, allowing a significant degree of diversity to exist within a single democratic nation often leads to certain ethnic groups forming voting blocks which vote for their ethnic interest and against that of the rest of society. This creates general social conflict, further damages social cohesion, and often leads to policies that are not in the majorities interest.
Thirdly, diversity encourages race mixing. Now, I realize that this makes some people especially upset, but there are various studies showing that mixed race relationships have a higher than average likelihood of divorce and that mixed race children typically score poorly and a wide variety of life outcome measures. This is true even of White/Asian children. This is most plausibly explained by the fact that mixed race people lack a natural racial in group and, as a result, feel alienated for a good deal of their life. Many mono-racial people can empathize with this by imagining that they lived somewhere in which basically no one was of the same race as themselves. This is the experience that many bi-racial children go through.
Fourthly, the importing of high IQ people from around the world results in “brain drain” in the nations they come from. This creates nations that are stuck in poverty because they lack the high IQ individuals needed to escape this situation in spite of the fact that their population naturally produces a significant number of very intelligent people.
Fifthly, many people in the alt-right enjoy White culture. This is true not only in terms of European science and institutions, but also on a more micro scale concerning things such as food, mannerisms, architecture, and pass times. For such people, a mass importation of high IQ diversity would change their culture in a way that they would not enjoy.
>>721436139 What the fuck city do you live in. That sounds made up af. I live in canada and we pay our teachers far better overall than the usa and the usual starting salary here is like 35 000 canadian so like 25k american. Youre a bullshitter
>>721435987 Exactly. It can be done, there are healthy cheap foods, but i know as a student wjo experiences partiak poverty during the semester it can be hard to motivate yourself especially when youre busy af to begin with.
>>721436187 the unemployment rate is around 6% yet approximately 50% of the country lives at or near the poverty line. you're either a grandpa or a fucking dumbass if you think just having a job affords you anything in this country. the bell curve of income is currently fucked because of our shitty tax code and poor regulation of corporate entities.
>>721436285 >from canada Then obviouclsy you have no clue about the US. Teachers bitch about being poor fucks when they are in fact not. True some teachers in the sticks earn shit, but thats becuase they have 10 students. Any major metro area thats not the ghetto, teachers make bank. Full premium healthcare, 3 months off a year, large paychecks, te ure that prevents them from being fired short of murder, fucking a student, or something insane like that. But they are the biggest whiners out there. If they dont get their 6% cost of living adjustment ler year they cry muh wages, muh oppression. So yes teachers genewrly are overpaid spoiled fucktards
Capitalism moves our race forward, alot of people are homeless and in prison, but look at how much tecnology, medicine and general knowleage is movimg forward in capitalist societys compared to other kinds. It might be athe selfish harsh society, where people advance us based on the promise of money and power if they make something good ehile the might die of starvation if they dont. But at least humainity as a whole ist staying in the stone age.
>>721436245 Internet and a phone as basically required for getting and keeping a huge amounts of jobs so i would not call that a waste. Same with a car depend8ng on where you live. Where i was born there are practically no jobs and everyone commutes.
>>721436550 except for the part where the welfare recipients are growing exponentially and the workers that you have dont bring in enough $ because they are lower lifeforms with low end jobs. The welfare state that you have is strained they only way you are paying for it by pawning of the natural resources that you have.
>>721430862 Although the facts in your image may be somewhat correct, they are presented in a sugggestive way: For example at the bottom on the right, the statement is that there is spent 7 times more money on military than on education, wich might be correct. But by representing the military expenses with a giantic rocket and the educational expensis with a book, it suggestively looks like the formes was about 1000 times larger, because you compare the objects "rocket" and "books".
>>721436441 Most forms of governing take more then 12 years to truely show if they are working or not. So you cant just say oh it worked her for a few years so it will work forever. Thats not how it works
>>721436758 >and the workers that you have dont bring in enough $ because they are lower lifeforms with low end jobs.
Where did I say I supported mass immigration cucking?
The problem we have is that too many go into useless degrees and then suck off welfare from people who need it, like the disabled or the old. My solution would be to replace welfare with a job finding program, in which you apply for insertion into a paying job instead of telling the government to gib moneys
>>721436664 Im canadian but i am planning on becoming a teacher and looked into teaching in the usa. Youre flat wrong. In fact teachers get paid so shit overall that they are one of the female dominated occupations that cause the wage gap that feminists love to misunderstand so much.
>>721436342 Veterans affairs retard. Defense spending does not go to programs aiding homeless veterans, actually most of that money goes to general dynamics and other shady groups that sell us bullets at 10 dollars a round.
That statement about Obama being at war his whole term is true, but highly misleading. The number of troops in Iraq when Obama started was 187,000. The number of troops now is under 5,000, and mainly that high only because of the recent explosion in violence due to ISIS. Obama also has the number of troops in Afghanistan down to below 10,000 after they were hovering around 100,000 during the Bush years.
>>721436511 Did i say having a job means you wont be poor? If you work at mcdonalds flipping burgers yku dont deserve to be paid what a skilled job makes. I said work hard. You can get a better job then minimum wage if you work hard and no a complete retard. But fucktards like you think you should get 200k a year just because you show up and flip a couple of hamburgers and fuck up only 45 or orders.
>>721436710 Of course it would be unimaginable they didnt exist. And of course they proliferated the tech became cheaper to manufacture. Thats like saying look feudalism makes everyone richer peasant you have a shared field and lots of wheat. Yeah you do have more than you would as a hunter gatherer but that doesnt justify a systems injustices.
>>721436972 >That's because you don't have fucking 15% tax on everything you buy, We do. Usually 20%, sometimes 10% or 5%. Feminists claim it should be 5% on tampons, this will probably be the next step in social progress.
>plus 43% of your salary literally given to poorfags who can't afford a home. That's probably right, had never thought about it.
>>721431348 man you capitalists sure have been brainwashed. US has the highest gdp per capital of the western world ( except Norway i think? ) but that doesn't mean the entire country is rich. in the case of the us, this means you are producing goods and selling them to everywhere else in the world. but because your taxes are so low the rest of the country doesn't benefit that much from this at all. all the money is in the hands of the multinational companies that are making billions.. but trickle down economics isn't going to benefit anyone other than a few marketing agents and the top staff of said companies. you are assuming the whole world is just like the US.. the free healthcare we have here is high quality. it's most likely just as good as paid healthcare in the US. why? cus the state wants to make the healthcare as good as possible for the least amount of money, so it can save as much as possible. this eliminates the whole stagnating thing you were talking about. some people might be lazy but that's not why ppl are poor in general. my GF is from America and her parents are fucking dickheads, whereas she's quite smart. but her parents aren't able to pay anything for her and she's never gonna be able to afford college if she has to pay for it herself. poor people exist, and by having this mentality you'll never even give them the chance they need to prove themselves.. they will never get out of that hellhole. which is why my gf will be moving in with me here, in Denmark.
>>721430862 capitalism works for now but with increasing automation and the eventual disappearance of jobs, communism or a system like it will be the only thing that remains we already have the technology to replace most jobs, but it just has to be made cheaper and better performing than a human
>>721437190 Dude if EVERYONE just "worked hard" like you said that wouldnt create new high paying jobs. There are only so many high paying jobs and the only way to get one is to replace someone who has one
>>721437376 They do exist, because they worked and blamed themselves for their poverty instead of blaming others. They looked at what they did wrong and they fixed it instead of walking in the streets and yelling slogans. Some got to billions, some to millions, some just got back to a normal life, but they all contributed to society much more than you will ever do.
You have such a simplistic view of the world, and fail to realize that you're comparing apples to oranges. Veterans are given opportunities to have government subsidized housing , food, allowances, discounts, job preference. Refuges don't have anything. Please use your brain before you post something that is so dumb and stupid. And don't follow what other people think, because clearly you're a follower
>>721436664 It's a pain in the ass training to become a teacher. Not to mention that you pretty much have to raise everyone's little bastards five days a week. It's not necessarily a shitty job, but the students can be seriously trying sometimes, and you really can't do much about it because they will go home and lie to their parents, who come back to the school and complain to you or the principal about your shitty teaching, because their precious angel could never do anything wrong. Yeah, that's why teachers sometimes make 90k (usually more like 50k).
>Tl;dr: Teaching is like raising kids that aren't yours. You should be paid well.
capitalism works great if you follow it. we strayed off of that track long ago. in simple why tax and regulate all these people/corporations to the point where they dont want to operate here anymore? hiring is a nightmare as well. i get a laugh at the people who argue minimum wage should be 20 dollars. so now you're taxing these companies to death and forcing them to pay their lowest level part time employee 20 dollars an hour. heres a pro tip. if you didnt tax and regulate that company all to hell it would pay you a good wage. and there would be a lot more jobs around. give the american citizens the tools they need to start a business, coming from a business owner, its fucking hard
>>721437478 Don'[t expect these people to understand anything about economics. Wealth inequality is actually an incredibly important part of an economy.
Computers used to cost millions of dollars, but because wealthy investors saw potential in the product, wealthy individuals were able to afford these devices and contribute to demand. Because of this, computer companies were able to stay in business and advance their product, making it more and more available in the mainstream market. Without rich people, products like the personal computer could have never existed in the same capacity as they do today.
i heard someone argue one day that anyone who makes over 2 million should be taxed over 70%. the business man then replied "so then every year when i make close to 2 million im laying you all off and going on a long vacation. come back next year and do it all over again"
>>721437534 not the anon you're talking to. but think about this. 1 rich man only needs 1 iPhone. he won't buy !ore than one unless he breaks it. say, if you give a man who can't afford much some money. now he can buy an iPhone too, hereby increasing Apple's profits. this could either be by raising minimum wage, or by wealth redistribution. or both
>>721437513 Capitalism makes things cheaper for everyone. That's what automation is. Losing your job in making toothpicks is offset by demand in yachts, or space ships, or nice homes. Remember, there's a no limit to consumption.
>>721430862 Face the facts people are poor because they don't wanna work my family came to this country with zero money and only the clothes they were wearing and now my family owns three houses and makes 150k a year and on top of it they are all dumb as shit and have up to a grade 5 education. Wtf is your excuse you lazy niggers
>>721433188 This is really all it fucking is. People could look up hope to fix shit on their dubsidized phones and sell their services but they're lazy and blame not being able to go to college or some shit.
People need to listen to the Wealthsteading podcast or read millionaire next door, money isn't some elusive thing, people just want it given to them.
>>721437190 >working full time means you aren't working hard
nice goalpost shift dickweed. this is aside from the fact that most salaried workers (98%) make over the minimum wage. you're right that working hard gets you a salary over minimum, but it doesn't afford you a good life in the slightest. this is because the cost of living here is outstripping the rate at which most people get paid.
>>721437959 >Remember, there's a no limit to consumption.
Well, there kinda is. This is why capitalism always has crises of abundance, rather than crises of scarcity like in other socio-economic systems. However the beauty of capitalism is that these crises of abundance always end up benefiting the lower-mid class. You know when your local department or clothing store has a huge blowout sale? Yeah, that's because they made a dumb prediction for the product and are having a crises of abundance, meaning you save money on the given product because of their stupid mistake.
>>721431991 >being murrican >still thinking this is a desirable position to find oneself in >git wit muh 1700s worldview >muh quality of life is dropping like an anchor but look at the cool missiles the government has, makes my wage slavery worthwhile
It's easy to convince people there is only one way to live when they have no phiosophy and they don't travel.
>>721438095 It would also be a lot more affordable if there wasn't so much red tape and regulation involved. Private schools become so much more inaccessible when you start funding the monolith with loads of taxpayer dollars, basically forcing most competition out because those same taxpayers aren't willing to spend more money on sending their kids to a decent school. This is why most private schools are reserved for snobby rich kids, because they're the only ones who can now afford it. Meanwhile the rest of us are forced into mediocre at best public schools because the government took away most of our options.
>>721437752 It's not just the taxes and regulations. Companies outsource their labor to countries where people will work for $1 a day in dangerous environments to increase profit margins, because the point of running a business is to make money. Even if regulations were reduced and the minimum wage remained stagnant, labor would still be outsourced. It's not that companies can't afford to employ Americans, it's that they don't want to because they cost more.
>>721437870 most of the people buying personal computers in the early era of computing were academics at government funded universities. this is when most of the computing technology that led to the affordable pcs we use now was developed.
aside from that, genomic technology that we enjoy today (sequencing an individual's genome and running it against an annotated database for like 100 bucks) is directly the result of government funding to research.
corporate influence only comes in when a product is profitable at mass-production levels, which is long after the technology is produced and capable of being affordable.
>>721435084 To be fair, they are only the most militarily superior in the amount of money they throw away into their army. The actual training is terrible.
One small example, watch any army in the world doing military parades, they will be in perfect time, their marching will be flawless, but when you see america, half of them won't even be on the same foot.
Not to mention the amount of money the army spends on propaganda
>>721430862 >Poverty on the rise Yes, it was around the time of the financial crisis >Productivity on the rise, wages stagnant Because of expensive machines such as computers. Also, don't tell me life now is as bad as it was in the 70s, we've got more food, education, entertainment, and all that other shit than back we could have imagined back then. >Lots of prisoners That's a good thing. Nations with a lower proportion of the world's prisoners than population have terrible police forces and higher crime rates.
Also, is your plan to reduce crime going to be to release loads of fucking prisoners? Sounds like a great idea.
>Ruled by millionaires Well no fucking shit, would you rather the rulers be the brightest and most successful people or dunces who dropped out of high school and swept the streets for 20 years?
Also, the reason so many congressmen are rich is the same reason so many doctors are rich - it's a hard job that pays well.
>22 empty homes for every homeless person So would you want to take the homes off those who own them and give them to someone who doesn't? That's theft. And most of those homes are dilapidated fucking shitholes that aren't fit for living and have been abandoned for years, think Detroit commie blocks.
Also, 842,000 homeless IN A GIVEN WEEK. How many of those are long-term homeless? That's the problem, not cheating men who were kicked out by their wives and didn't have a place of their own for a little while.
>High military spending Which makes America the most powerful nation on Earth that everyone else wants to suck up to and will trade with. Also provides MILLIONS of jobs in the military and industial sectors.
>>721439016 There was also a post-war consumption boom and a lack of serious industrial competition from other countries (because they had been physically and economically damaged in WWII). Not to mention that international shipping was still prohibitively expensive. By the 1960s, cheap Japanese labor began cutting into thr American job market.
>>721439616 >>721439632 because you don't get to earn any more money dingus. it costs money to fire people and hire new people, it would be a massive waste and possibly crash your business to dump all your employees. this is how labor unions are able to negotiate with corporations. saving money on taxes with a temper tantrum means nothing when you have no future earning potential.
>>721430862 Some capitalist countries are not THAT bad in many of those fields. Don't blame on capitalism how shitty your very country is, maybe because there's a lot of retards and not because capitalism. Well, same for communism. Russia looked like an oligarchy with some mad dude on top before, during and after communism.
Having read the whole thread, I think there is a point being overlooked.
It is true that it is a political matter, not the economic system.
It is true that the nation could "solve this problem", fairly easily, with a little pain and some culture change.
The failure to do so rests with "the government".
In this country, "the government" is actually the people themselves, acting through their elected representatives.
We The People (including me) DO NOT CONSIDER THESE MATTERS TO BE PROBLEMS!!!
I was born into poverty (really, dirt poor farm family) went into military because no other prospects. Lo these many years later I am retired, living comfortably on earned income that I got by earning a BA and two master's degrees and working constantly my whole life doing things I didn't necessarily enjoy and not wasting my money.
I DO NOT WANT ANY OF MY RESOURCES TAKEN FROM ME TO BE GIVEN TO ANYBODY ELSE! And, clearly, by recent election results, I am not alone.
Greedy? Selfish? So what, screw you and the goats you rode in on.
>>721435987 >dollar menu at McDonalds and the family ate 'good' that night. >ate 'good' I never get this eating out in dirty diners shit. cook yourself its better tastier more nutritious faster and cheaper.

Wow we're so fortunate to be modern slaves! Wowee our masters sure are generous! Cell phones and computers are great despite the fact that I will never, ever, in my entire life be a homeowner!
Let's hear it for the multi trillionaire masters for bestowing this astonishing gift to us all! Now we get to play with toys like children! Fuck having a real life and a fucking house like the people 50 years ago did. Nope. We need electronic toys and gadgets like 12 year olds. Huge improvement!
>>721440143 Non-defence discretionary. Building massive underground tunnels, which span for many miles and well stocked. Although paid for by public these tunnels are not intended for the public. Btw, did you know Elon Musk is now taking up tunneling? The real reason for these tunnels has not been disclosed yet to prevent panic.
>>721430862 Start by getting a REAL education about basic economics (NOT from some liberal pos public school). Capitalism has raised more people out of poverty than any other. Examples of failures: North Korea, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, et al faggot.
>>721439551 >Everyone wants to suck up to and trade with U.S. The coming trade war is gonna hit you right in the nads, buddy. >inb4 China's economy is as dependent on us as we are on them That's not how a trade deficit works >inb4 we can just trade with others Not when the sitting president wants to gut all existing trade deals and keeps bungling diplomacy.
>>721436847 They have inflated ecconomies because leaders where rewarded and promoted if they boosted the income of districts short term. they calculated this by how many homes there are build. how ever no one is moving in because there is no work. Thus its inflated
>>721440777 not true, private companies want to maximize profit. hence why drugs cost 1/100th their original price when they go generic. they minimize cost for themselves, which actually puts more burden on the consumer.
1) Healthcare in the US is not that bad. 0 countries in the world guarantee healthcare. MOST countries guarantee some kind of health INSURANCE. In the US, you have ALWAYS been able to walk into an ER and be treated to a gunshot wound or something and walk out and not pay. That's law. Forever. It just might screw up your credit. Obamacare was just a attempt at making it so that "if you get ass cancer it doesn't mess up your credit" by creating some kind of elaborate and overly complex tax on insurance companies.
The only real argument with healthcare in the US is "we would like to raise the base level of care from 2-3". But people don't like discussing a panel of people that decide who gets to live and who gets to die (which is essentially what it is in literally EVERY country) so we just do this.
2) There are many subtle levels of "poor" in the US. You can buy a house in the US if you have not done anything retarded with your life and you worth a normal job and make $20 an hour ($40k a year). Now, you would also be taxed @ 17% when W2ed at $40k a year not including state. You could also very easily stand on a street corner and make $20k a year in cash by begging or selling flowers/fruit/bottled water and then collect welfare and you would be taxed at 0%. You could also buy a house and probably be MORE rich than the person who didn't fuck up their life.
The PROBLEM is that socioeconomic issues create situations where people are either 1) uneducated to where they have no choice but to fuck up their life in advance via drugs or violence or 2) they just start on path 2 and never leave it and moving from half homeless to actual job is pretty much impossible. It has nothing to do with 'capitalism'.
3) Wage gap creates this issue where if you give a poor person $200 they have to spend it on rent/food/whatever. If you give a rich person $200, they can turn it into $300 or $400 because they don't immediately need it.
>>721437513 Agriculture jobs used to be over 50% of the economy, now it is 1%. Many thousands of people used to weave cloth across Europe, then they invented loom machines. Millions of jobs exist today that didn't 50 years ago. Computers, technology, programmers, you tube stars, video game makers, shit the list is endless. There will still be jobs in the future, even if some jobs are automated, just as has occurred in the last 200 years. This dystopian future of no jobs where we have to embrace communism, isn't going to happen. All that's going to happen is that average people will be wealthier and can work easier, just as has been the trend since 1700.
>>721430862 If you don't like capitalism you can go to a country where communism has succeeded... oh yeah, there's none, china addopted capitalist ideas and put them to work and now they're a superpower.
>>721441062 It's not a bomb they're worried about. It's the periodic passage of a large Jupiter sized planet that causes a pole shift. This occurs every 3,657 years, on average. That is why Elon Musk is giving up on getting to Mars. He know's there's not enough time.
>>721440566 >the fact that I will never, ever, in my entire life be a homeowner!
This is tiresome. If you have made the decision that you will not be a homeowner, that is your choice. If you really really want to be a homeowner, then do the things necessary to achieve it! Education, work long hours, defer instant gratification and save as much of your income as possible, find a super-cheap fixer in a bad part of town.
With the right attitude, ANYONE can be a homeowner, unless their skills/talents/capabilities/work ethic is so low as to make them literally incompetent to function as adult human beings.
Your complaint is that no one will give you a house? Come on dude, take control of your own destiny.
>>721440284 1. You didn't answer my point about VA hospitals. They are utter shit, where people wait months or years for treatment, despite the gov supposedly doing their best because it's for our proud veterans
2. USA is one of the most ethnically diverse countries on the planet. We are not all Japanese or Nordic with the longer life spans, tons of our population is black, Hispanic, or other. Using life expectancy is a flawed metric. You'd at least have to break it out to compare by ethnic groups. And that still doesn't take into account lifestyle choices, when nordics eat fresh salmon and Americans eat the burgers.
>>721440566 Home ownership is overrated. Taking a mortgage is modern slavery, you HAVE to work for whatever salary to pay it or whoof - you lose all your money and your home. Renting costs the same but allows you the freedom to move for better opportunities
>>721441025 Private companies want to maximize profits by providing the best product possible to the customer, for the lowest cost (efficiency). Doing this results in profits. Providing bad products at a high cost gives your company losses, until you go out of business. At least if capitalism is allowed to operate, which it only barely does in medicine.
As for drugs, you left out the millions of dollars in r&d. No one is going to invest millions in new drug research, if generic company could make copies immediately. People complain about expensive new drugs (the ones that aren't generic yet), but the alternative is the new drugs wouldn't exist.
This is true, but competition is what forced companies to give the best product for the lowest price. That's why generics cost so little, but when the government enforces pharmaceutical monopolies with retarded laws and regulations, then the prices sky rocket. The reason why Epi-pens are inflated so horribly is because the FDA requires millions of dollars worth of testing over the course of up to a decade from companies with no return.
>>721441516 The alternative is socialism, which acts as a parasite on capitalism. But you still need the economy to be relatively free capitalism for it to work. If the government actually tries to run the economy like in communism, instead of just being a parasite, the economy will fail. Socialism just has to be careful not to suck so much as to kill the host. But of course, any animal without parasites is healthier.
>>721441812 1.http://www.hsrd.research.va.gov/publications/esp/quality.pdf this is an older study, but largely still relevant. pools the data from a bunch of independent studies done comparing the VA to non-VA quality of care, showing there's no significant difference. most of the shitty care comes from outlier shithole hospitals in detroit and other such places. note that care did take a notable decrease in quality for a period of time due to the fiscal cliff basically shitting all over the entire department of veterans affairs back in 2012. this is probably a big source of your negative opinion of the hospitals since they were in fact totally paralyzed for a few months and had to get their shit together.
2. disability adjusted life expectancy computes in the disease burden of a country before comparing two countries. the statistic i quoted already answers your question.
>>721442830 >>>721441812 (You) # >1.http://www.hsrd.research.va.gov/publications/esp/quality.pdf A study conducted by the VA says care at the VA is just as good? Not saying that necessarily means the report is wrong, but the DPRK does say that North Korea is the best Korea.
>>721442699 This is a good way to put it, it's why socialism's success wildly varies from country-to-country. Some countries such as Scandinavian ones make excellent hosts because they're so abundant in natural resources, giving people the illusion that it's socialism doing all the good when in reality it's just the result of a healthy amount of resources, but if you look at somewhere like the Philippines where the country really doesn't have anything to show for it's resource independence, it fails horribly and plunges itself into poverty.
>>721430862 Easily, if homeless people didn't waste their lives doing drugs and stealing they could have focused on getting a job so they could afford a house. Why is this so difficult for you faggots to understand?
>>721443254 it was a lit review of papers done by independent researchers, namely academics and independent contractors, crunching numbers on survival rates for different procedures. you can read all of the papers in the references section, this review is just more convenient since it isn't just me citing like 100 papers I haven't even read at you like a douchebag.
>>721430862 Because people are greedy and we've gotten confused over why money is a good thing. Money is worth nothing at all on its own it's only valued based on its perceived worth, which is obviously much better than the barter system but it means people tend to stockpile the money rather than use it for physical things/services and it leads to current scenario, nobody needs billions of dollars a year, what the fuck do you spend that on? capitalism just needs a refresh, it's the same as democracy if everyone can have a go and decide how shit should be it'll gradually lean towards supporting the people who've dicked it around the most to suit them
>>721443254 Really all I'm saying is, if your grocery store is giving you shit service at high prices, you go to a different grocery store. But if the government ran all grocery stores, that dynamic doesn't exist, you're shit out of luck. The only thing you could do at that point is write your congressman and demand he "do something" to fix the shitty grocery stores.
>>721432399 >only able to afford junk food Generations of poor people in my country lived on boiled corn flour and onions. You can still live off simple, cheap food but trailer trash and ghetto niggers seem to enjoy the taste of junk food.
>>721443591 no, socialism varies wildly in its success because its rarely implemented correctly. Most of the "communist" countries of the world are autocracies (Cuba) or oligarchies (China) and have no real democratic input. Democratic socialism is fine so long as your country has protections against powergrabs by cynical assholes. Also, you have to have some moderate people in your government who keep everyone else from just mindlessly throwing money at problems instead of actually thinking about what they're doing.
