Why does everyone harold The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of time as a masterpiece? I recently found my old N64 as well as a box of games and thinking that it would great to relive my childhood memories I played the game, and it was just mediocre, not good but not bad either.
What happened /b/?
First zelda in 3D.
Big ass world for the time.
Side quests. Horses.
There are plenty of reasons this game is fondly remembered, it was one of the top games of its time.
Now you look at it and your nostalgia glasses just can't. You've been subjected to many better looking games since, with better mechanics, so this 15 year old game looks bad.
But in its time, it was a masterpiece.
Games have evolved fast. Way faster than music or even movies. Everything from graphics to controls to story has gotten exponentially better the past 20 years, and will continue to do so. 20 years from now The Witcher 3 will be shit too. That's a good thing. Means we're getting better.
For its time, it was a masterpiece.
Protip: It never was that great. A link to the past was the best of the series...
We can debate if it was the best zelda on its launch date, but the best ever is stupid indeed. We've got litteral decade of progress on graphics, narration, user interface, sound quality and every little thing that makes it straight impossible for a game this old to compare to modern games.
Not that anon, but I did enjoy Wind Waker more than Ocarina. It used pretty much the exact same control system, just more refined.
Both were masterpieces of their time, but I think Wind Waker pushed the limits a little more than Ocarina. There's just SO MUCH to do on the Great Sea.
Prove that this isn't the best Zelda game
protip: you can't
Seasons/Ages is my favorite, but I'm playing Wind Waker with my 6-year-old and I gotta say it's satisfying seeing her get amazed at it, and feel so smug when she figures out a puzzle.
N64 and PS1 games don't age as well as a lot of stuff before and after. That whole awkward phase of figuring out 3d made for really clunky shit that was revolutionary at the time
The disc in the pivture is the best zelda, you cant deny it
Because this was better
It has attractive characters item with simple gameplay good atomosphere and story that makes sense.
It's amazing how difficult it is for liberals to create attractive characters with a cohesive story even thought he budget for their games are in the millions.
