Seriously though, a barrel proof small batch bourbon/whiskey/scotch of decent quality should be pretty damned drinkable, despite being higher proof. Wild Turkey Rare Breed is my go to. Only about $40 a bottle, which is cheap for higher end liquor. Typically 110-115 proof, and really smooth - grain alcohol free, not an aggressive burn, and an easily appreciated flavor.

If you mean the other kind of "drinkable", I would probably suggest a dark spiced rum like Kraken, or some cinnamon liquor like fireball or goldshlager. Schnapps are easy to throw back, too.

I killed a bottle of jack last night. It's my fave for sipping. Another favorite is Kraken rum, but only on ice. I wouldn't sip kraken from the bottle. Also worth adding a splash of A&W to it to compliment the vanilla and spice.

But yeah, your picture is pretty much on point. Also, hangovers from Jack are easy to mitigate if you drink 32 ounces of water immediately after waking up and eating a steak or whatever for breakfast. My hangover was gone 45 minutes after I woke up.

Don't trust sit from the person who told you that. Typically, you want 0 "grain" alcohol in a good liquor. Everclear is pure distilled grain alcohol. It's great for making tinctures and extracts, but the quality of the liquor comes through in the buzz and the hangover.

Just read the label. If it doesn't have how many times it was distilled, avoid it.
There's plenty of cheap vodkas that are superior to name brands.
Polar Bear and Frios come to mind. They're cheaper than Stoli, GG, Belvedere, among others, but have smoother finishes.
Forgot to mention: the more times it's distilled, the less your hangover will be; I don't get them at all.

I don't know that this is necessarily true. When I make a wash from pure sugar water and distill it once, it has way less of a hangover effect than corn wash distilled 3 times. I suspect that the source of the sugar is the biggest factor in your hangover. I think that's why malt liquor is so gnarly to hang over from. That cheap Platinum 7x vodka has given me a mean hangover. Tequila has a very distinct hangover, probably something to do with the sugars present in agave.

Whiskey: Jack is a solid choice, if its a bit harsh Gentlemen's Jack is a little more expensive with less edge.

Rum: Bacardi, if you need a flavor Bacardi Limon is good, and if I remember select and gold are both the same price, only couple bucks more than regular.

Gin: You won't really find one here unless you love the taste of fresh pine like I do, but Hendricks is good, though a bit more expensive, an dthe bottle is completely black so you have no idea how much have actually drank.

Tequila: Hornitos Reposado
