So lately i've been seeing a lot of talk about how abstaining from fapping helps build testosterone and reinforce overall will power, but I've tried and only lasted like a day before I was on edge, irritable, and just overall salty but after I fap I feel amazing, like a fucking superhero. Thoughts?
>>721003835 There is no science behind this. The people at /r/nofap preach it as gospel, bit the truth is that abstaining from masturbation simply forces you to exercise self-control. Masturbation feels good. You can build willpower by brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand (unless you are left-handed).
Love the pic, btw. That is my favorite pose for a woman to be in. Thanks.
>>721003969 I used to get up early to fap. That way I knew my day would start with something pleasant. Don't be ashamed of it...it's an advantage you have if you are male that it's easy, clean, and you can be discreet, instead of making "schlick, schlick, schlick" sounds and getting prune hands.
>>721004224 Yeah see if have a gf, but she has endometriosis and that causes sex to usually be painful so she can handle the pain sometimes but not always so I do it more than I normally would with a gf
>>721004067 You know most chicks don't do that? They just rub their clit - no actual way to get prune fingers against just skin. They do normally wipe afterwards cause they're soaking, but I think it's actually easier clean-up than men, and can definitely be more discreet.
>>721005020 Well there's the guaranteed no chance of misfire. Also I can always change my mind halfway through the event if I need to do more than a piss. Allows me a good 10-20 seconds of just zoning out instead of having to focus on aiming.
>>721005490 She does but then she inevitably wants penetration after so if it's gonna be painful its unfair to her and I can't get off to her in actual pain, and I was almost a wizard so I don't mind fapping
Anon you have a masturbation addiction. It's hard to get rid of addictions since we incorporate the habits into our routines. Once we try and stop, we find ourselves with a chunk of time free to us..... But we don't know what to do with it and end up going back to feeding our addiction.
The few ways to combat your addiction is to find something else to take up those time frames. It will take some willpower alright but once you find that something else to do, you'll very slowly but surely forget about your chronic masturbation.
Suggestions include pursuing women or men if that's your thing, or working out. Yea yea I know, the cliché working out proposition. Hey, it'll keep your mind off your urges and it'll be good for your body as well. You just have to find the strength to break your routine and do something else. Also, I recommend not browsing 4chins. It has a lot of posts/images that can trigger your urge to fap. Even sfw boards can have triggering images. Before you take the first step in fighting your addiction, have one last good fap(s). Beat that shit till it hurts and start thinking about what your new distraction will be and how you plan on going about that.
>I used to have excessive masturbation tendencies too. I know how you feel.
>>721006050 I wouldn't say addiction otherwise, but OP said he can only last 1 day. If he truly isn't addicted, he should be able to have enough willpower to just stop. It's what I do to test myself if I start suspecting I'm becoming addicted to something. Just stop doing it and seeing if I can. Usually that'll last like a month and then I either keep doing it cause even though I'm not addicted it's fun, or I decide whatever activity it is didn't even positively affect my life and that month off was only good for me, so I continue not doing whatever it was I was doing. I think OP should try and last at least a month without fapping, and then see if he can cut it back to only fapping once a week which is a pretty healthy amount.
Also, most sketchy studies like this don't factor in cause vs correlation. The truth of the matter is low testosterone guys are getting far less women and sex, so they naturally masturbate more.... virtually every sketchy study doesn't factor in cause vs correlation. It's much like having studies that say smoking weed causes depression, when the simple fact of the matter is that depressed people are more inclined to use drugs, just as lonely low testosterone guys are likely to fap more, or like depressed people taking anti-depressants kill themselves more frequently. Does this have to do with anti-depressants causing suicide or does it have to do with the fact that they were depressed to begin with and depression causes suicide? Tough to say but you should always account for this.
BUT it does distinctly lower motivation, makes you tired and apathetic, and you're certainly less likely to be on the hunt for a woman if you're fapping all the time like some type of crazed chimp.
Also, body builders sports teams know if they fap a lot the drive to go out there and work out greatly decreases with large amounts of fapping.
For me, once a day is a regular healthy amount and I think it is for most people. That way you still have a lot of energy and motivation, you'll still be hunting for women, and it's just enough that you won't be intensely sexually frustrated.... more than that and it begins to make you lethargic, unmotivated, and stop seeking women.
Also, think of it like this. Everytime you bust, you're brain lets off some dopamine which in turn makes you feel amazing. Think of it like.... Someone taking a hit of heroine or a line of cocaine. Extreme I know but it's similar in ways. Everytime you bust you're basically taking a hit. You're "rewarding" yourself every time you fap. Google the "reward system" and look through it. I belive addiction is very relevant to that topic. >>721006309 If you can't go a day without succumbing to it, I think it can sorta be classified as an addiction. Skimming through the thread, it seems like op is pretty deep into it considering he almost became a wizard. I don't think he can stop all together just like that, but who knows. Hopefully he gets the results he's looking for.
>>721006605 ..... I don't know how to respond to this. You're clearly wrong but idk how to tell you you're wrong without you lashing out at me. Just trust me anon, masturbation addiction is a real thing and so is porn addiction.
>>721006605 You will always find the guys most addicted to something will be the most adamant about preaching how it's non-addictive....
I've known many guys that gotta smoke pot "all day, err day" to keep a level head, they start getting a shit ton of fury and anxiety if they don't smoke at least every few hours.
I've known many alcoholics who state they "can quit any time I (they) want", and how despite being a daily drinker, they are not alcoholics, and how they "don't have an addictive personality".
And I suspect your case is no different, spend all day fapping to the interwebs than when someone suggests that guys find it addictive, you have a kneejerk reaction that it's not.
Jacking IS addictive and enjoyable. And if there's no woman in your life, it's pretty much a necessity in your life. Everyone masturbates (except for the most ardently asexual fundamentalists), it's just a matter of how much.
I've had many close conversations with women and men and the common amount seems to be once a day. I find that's healthy, if it gets too much more than that, it's probably gonna make you lazy, lethargic, and indifferent towards seeking women.
>>721007054 Yup, and I say that being a former alcoholic myself, I drank my way into ulcers from a fifth a night for a decade.... then I switched to pot. I'm an "all day err day" smoker.... and I'm addicted.
It helps with my rages and depression far better than anything (I've tried many different pharmaceuticals), if I can just have a few bowls a day, I'm level headed and happy. Hell, even a few hits tends to even out my moods for a day. It seems like if you've smoked at all within the last 24 hours there's a happy level-headed afterglow for a bit.
That being said, it's not the panacea hippies say (it sure as shit won't cure cancer and be a great substitute for vaccines), and it certainly IS addictive. Here's the truth, I've quit heroin, meth, tobacco, and alcohol without batting an eye. A couple of bad weeks than the hard part is over. But weed, I just can't kick, it's fundamental to my happiness. If the answer is weed or .45 caliber aspirin, the choice is pretty clear.
Then they're always quick to make the "not physically addictive, it's psychologically addictive" distinction. Well, very few drugs are physically addictive, just opiates as far as I know (though there may be a multitude of physical discomforts that accompany quitting regular high dosages of coke, meth, or alcohol). But psychologically addcitive can still be VERY addictive.
I think a lot of it comes from the backlash against the dare propaganda of the last 30 years. The lefties/hippies are doing the same thing. They're saying weed cures everything, has no adverse effects, and that it's completely nonaddictive.... which is nonscientific loony propaganda to the opposite extreme. I think they're actually hurting the movement more than helping with that pseudoscience. If they were real and said there's few side effects (smokers cough and bronchitis, ten times the tar of tobacco), it can help with several health ailments (not all and it certainly can't cure terminal disease)
Masturbation affects erection quality and sensitivity. The penis wasn't meant to be tugged at every day, and your hand is no substitute for a vagina, especially if it's rough. There's nothing conclusive on this, because the anatomy of the penis varies so much from one man to another, but many people who masturbate more than usual report decreased girth and rigidity in their erections. I don't know about the testosterone thing. I've read mixed opinions, even among peer-reviewed studies. One thing I can say is that you aren't gonna fetch that pail of water if you aren't thirsty. There's something to be said against living in a state of perpetual self-satisfaction. From the spiritual stand point, not discarding your vital energies in decadence will, in my experience, improve your masculine vitality. Keep yourself hungry.
^^^and, any time you resolve to do something, and then give up, you're reinforcing that neural pathway. Everytime you fail to alter or cease a habit, that habit gets harder to overcome. Cigarette and alcohol users will know this too well. The first time you "quit" is easy, but every time you give in, quitting gets harder, and giving in gets easier. If you wanna stop, you have to make the decision and stick to it.
I'm on day 18. Hard at first but after a while you realize how much it actually affects your life. All the people in this thread are basically just closet porn addicts who have to make excuses for their lack of willpower. Masturbation isn't bad by itself, but porn legitimately affects your brain negatively. Instant gratification is a harmful thing.
>>721003835 I have heard tons of stuff about this, but I never found any really convincing argument why one shouldn't - or should - fap. None of these arguments were really provable in any way, though some of them made a lot of sense, like that if you don't fap, it will make you more horny and thus more likely to pursue chicks and eventually get laid.
Since I found no good evidence that confirms or contradicts these claims (I encourage you to search for it, up to now I've never found something actually scientific and not pseudo-science bullshit), I decided to see for myself.
One time I passed two whole months with only one fap, exactly in the middle (which was preplanned). On other occasions I also had a couple months with no fap at all. Occasionally before I get to see my gf (we're in LDR) I do a week of nofap just to improve the sex when we meet.
My conclusions from the experiments: - Not fapping makes me horny, yes, sometimes irritable too. If I'm busy I'm less irritable. - However, it never helped me in any way to pursue girls better or be more confident. Everything was exactly the same. - Didn't feel my body is more energetic when not fapping. - My will power is pretty good anyway thank you. - Didn't hurt my sex at all.
There is a small advantage: - The fap/sex is amazing if you've held it back for a few days. Still there is no need to abstain for more than like 4 days, since by that time I'm already as horny as I can get, anything more than that just annoys me instead of improving the fap/sex. - Saves time.
So today I'm happily fapping 2-3 times a day and don't feel bad about it at all. Also fags on nofap claim it's immoral or unclean but they are religious/moral fags so I couldn't care less, this body was programmed this way, no reason why I shouldn't have fun with it.
>>721009279 Didn't have time to watch in full but I remember reading quite convincing articles about how porn affects your brain and causes erectile dysfunction, I assume it's kind of the same, otherwise I'll find out when I watch it later.
In repsonse I have 2 things: 1. First all fapping and porn are not the same, it's totally possible, at least for me, to fap and enjoy it without porn at all. 2. It's true that anecdotal evidence doesn't mean much, but also many researches are also bullshit (not to mention there are always contradictory researches around). What I'm saying is for you anecdotal evidence, but for me it's personal experience. If my penis works fine even when I'm watching porn frequently, it is definitely more relevant for me than any research some other people did, even if they did it pretty meticulously.
TBH I'm not actually dismissing all scientific evidence, it's just that this kind of evidence is often flawed as well, so my recommendation is to find out more about it and try stuff out yourself and see what works for you. If my dick is working and I'm having fun I don't see the problem.
