I've bought several rental properties under a trust and have one for each of my buddies if I die.
I figure that's the right thing to do.
Money is nice until your bills are paid. After that, it doesn't help you. I'm boring and depressed so I just have no use for luxury.

but i graduated with a business degree and was thinking of going the pmp route for awhile for that exact reason. at some point i'm going to want to move into the management side due to it being kind of a PITA staying up to date with the tech, and frankly it does seem relatively straightforward. The "tribal knowledge and shit people" part definitely struck home, I've seen throughout my career people who really aren't helping the company move forward but have rooted themselves as "the guy" with arcane knowledge they refuse to give up. Thanks for the response!

Your 100% spot on. People are mostly afraid of their security (job) being taken away. Best way to get the info is to manipulate sadly. Offer promotions to train replacement type thinking.
If you have thebig picture interest and mindset, the pmp or MBA or both is the way to go. People won't take you serious without it.
I got groomed by my former CEO (billionaire) and behind closed doors he talked about firing niggers and not hiring any more queers.
It's beyond ugly at the top and some people are evil. I once forced a woman to miss her child's play to prove a point. Threatened her job if she left early again.
I cried in my truck after I did that, but the workers stopped banging out early without cause. Do the ends justify the means? Who knows? But is it ugly? Yep. Does everyone I come into contact with hate me or kiss my ass? Yep. Can I trust anyone? Only my boys who think I'm broke. Go figure.

The one thing I learned is this:
People need a leader. Go left, right or straight and people will follow. But you have to set a course.
Even if you are wrong, steam ahead and you'll go far.
Ever wonder why senior leaders always seem retarded? It's because they are but are willing to set the course and be made fun or hated.
Business is simple. Make a product or service and sell it. Everything else is built off of that principle. The leadership and confidence to execute on that principle is the hard part.
Next time there is a problem at work, come up with a solution and step in and ask to correct it.
Even if you shouldn't be involved, people should see your willingness to jump in. Eventually the tide will turn and a new regime of leaders will be culled and you will certainly be considered. Everything other than confidence is trainable.
Ask yourself what's not trainable and demonstrate that. Loyalty, engagement, intelligence, etc

What does the investigation entail? Anything harder to track than others?

I was in Comifornia, so the SJW, fuck cis-male-scum thing, was pretty strong. I recently moved back to my homestate (MI), but there's not a lot of openings here either.
Writing cover letters, and filling out applications is a lot of work, especially when you hear nothing but rejection back. I'm pretty burnt out on it.
I didn't really expect to jump into an Engineering position, but I didn't think it would be this hard to secure a fucjing technician job.
I've got most of my classmates on LinkedIn. The ones who scored jobs were minorities/women and dudes with parents in the field. It's pretty frustrating when a lot of these people came to me for help with the more difficult coursework.

I don't work in investigations. That's a whole different department. :(
I just close accounts for fraud. What I can say though, we've seen a lot of really crazy stupid stuff card members do or try to do. We know almost immediately if you are lying based on the answers you give us when we ask our questions. No matter what the charge type is: keyed, Internet, swiped, cash advance, balance transfer etc.

meh, a few of them end up in the papers, when there's a serious beatdown or something but I think most of it would be interesting only to the people working on it. For example, an arrestee who's a real smartass or makes jokes about his crime while confessing. If I guessed the flow of what I work on it would be: domestic stuff several times a week, 1 or 2 armed robberies a week, and I'm relatively junior so I have second-chaired all the homicides I've been on. But those are interesting to a detective. Not really for the Sherlock Holmes aspect you might think- whodunits are very rare- but for all the basic stuff you're supposed to but people forget to do because so much shit is happening all at once. It's hard to keep up with it all.
Fortunately we have a sex crimes unit that handles almost all of that stuff, we only take overflow now and then. That stuff is gross and I want no part of it.
>>720975175
Oh it definitely is a union. My union is strong in my city and has a large market share. It is just that it is a trade union, not an industrial union.
Trade unions are less likely to use the per-hour-worked method and instead usually use a flat rate.
>>720975320
on the robberies/homicides you helped investigate, did anyone end up getting away with it (or is still at large)? i may be mistaken but with all the technology these days it seems like it'd be hard for anyone to get away with it

This is only my experience talking but most of these crimes are solved through traditional means, and the science just provides confirmation or removes doubt, like with blood and DNA evidence. Obviously there are plenty of cases nationwide where unsolved murders or rapes get solved thanks to DNA database hits but I haven't worked on one.
Basically, if you want to solve most of these crimes, you need to take a bunch of witness statements, write down accurately what people tell you, be organized, and put it all together in understandable format. The same kind of skills you used in writing a term paper in HS or college.

I'll add that for robbery cases, DNA is rare. It's usually "dude pointed gun at me, took my money, and left" so nothing to do CSI tricks on. That's more about getting a good description and putting photo lineups together. Fingerprints are rare in every case. People always ask about fingerprints- 'why didn't they get prints?' But most surfaces won't collect them so it's pointless to try.
Murder cases, with blood, you're taking lots of samples. And lots and lots of pictures.

random question, but are you familiar with the jon benet ramsey murder case? it was recently like the 20th year anniversary of the crime so there was some shows out on it recently, and it's a pretty interesting case that it seemed like the police bungled. if you're familiar with it i'm just curious what your thoughts are, i think the brother did it.

frankly, CS is easier than people make it out to be. college can be hard if you let yourself get too distracted. everyone worked out fine for me, but that said i really should have taken a year or two off before going to college, i more or less wasted the first year by being stoned the whole time and didn't learn anything -- could have gotten that out of my system while working at a restaurant or at a ski resort or something.
