Historiast here. In olden times France they mostly spoke Latin. Bic is likely a corruption of the Latin 'bich', meaning 'generosity'. I theorize that this device was most likely offered to the French god Le Garliq in hopes of gaining a generous harvest of garlic and onions.

The figure to the left of the word is probably a depiction of Le Garliq, who was said to have the body of a man and the head of a negro.

Stupid currymuncher probably found them at the bottom of some poo pit in India and has no idea of their value: they look like possibly the best preserved examples of goods traded in the ancient Indo-French trade caravans. Going to buy them all up before some other history expert comes along and recognizes this huge find.

Guys this shit is getting weird...I was so excited by this post I needed to have a smoke and calm my nerves. I lit up and then I noticed...the lighter was an EXACT replica of the one in OP's post EXCEPT it said "Made in Spain 2102". Is this some sort of highly elaborate hoax, or is it possible that the ancient French had time travelling and portal technology? The technology behind this thing looks like it could only really have been produced by the Future French, and yet there is an exact copy from olden times.
