A Clockwork Orange

I saw it when I was 3 or 4 years old, got a mental image of that movie in my head since... It terrified me.

Only found out which movie it was more than 20 years later, while browsing around with a friend for the most terrifying/shocking movies out there. Why would anyone even put this on TV 20 years ago for a kid to see?

I loved horror movies as a kid, they were my dream-world reality. Sometimes I was an onlooker, sometimes I was the monster. What movie caused me to loose sleep? The ancient Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, my dad had it and said it was a wonderful kids' movie. The insanity of that movie stirred me for years.

When i was in grade 5 my mom let me pick out a movie for my birthday party. I chose SLEEPAWAY CAMP 3 on VHS. Lol, realistic murders and fucking. My friends were all pretty shocked. Didnt fuck with my sleep, but the creativeness of the killings, as opposed to your Freddys and Jasons, i still remember like 20 yrs later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMq9rCTq2J4

A lot of old N64 games are getting expensive sadly. But hey! A criminally underrated Harvest Moon is Magical Melody! The art style can be a bit of a turn off at first, but the game is so incredibly addictive. Just listening to the Fall theme puts incredible nostalgia in my heart.

Faces of Death.

We rented three copies from a locally owned video store. The clerk looked at us three tween kids of acne and said "you know this is pretty hardcore stuff" right?" We said we did and proceeded to watch people commit suicide and money brains being eaten. It fucked with me pretty bad really. Even if some of it is fake or staged. Anyway, I'd just discovered totse at the time and save for rotten and vomit lunch and later on goregasm and ogrish was pretty unacquainted with gore or torture porn.

The Exorcist.

The headspinning etc was fucked up but what really got me as a kid was how before she became fully possessed her bed would shake. I had an old bed and it would shake every time I rolled over so that would scare the shit out of me.

Also that scene where she tells the astronaut he's going to die then pisses herself. There's something creepy about that part that still gives me chills even now when I think about it.

Final Destination 1

I view it now as ridiculous, seeing as how the death is kinda funny, but back then I was like 5 or younger and at a friend's house when this was on TV. It was the train scene in Final Destination. I haven't seen a grahic death like that before so I was shooken up really well. I had ightmares for months and I went super catholic trying to pray the nightmares away.

It was the whole scene, but specifically the decapitation at 3:15

great times. My family used to rent from this small video store operated by asians which was way cheaper than Blockbuster or Hollywood video. Rent 2 movies and the 3rd one was free. And the beauty of it was that I could use my parent's card and rent R rated movies on my own. I was still in middle school.

then later on in High School. I would go with my edgy buddies and we would rent a series called "faces of death". Pretty much Rekt thread videos long before 4chan.

LOL, and once my dad paid a late fees on some porn of mine. Awkward as fuck at the time, but he didn't make it a huge deal.

Was 6 when I watched all of who framed roger rabbit, Judge doom haunted the hell out of kids for a long time.

Oh yes and at 10 I got to watched poltergeist back to back with predator, Didn't help we lived near some rainforests in nsw, made my sister check the trees for ages.

A real favourite was watching jaws at 7, yeah didn't go in deep water for a while without my parents.

Another one that messes with you if you live near forests is pumpkin head, I saw that on tv at 11.

OP, I miss videostores. Online streaming might be convenient but what I miss about going to the store is that it felt like a trip out where you didn't know who you'd bump into. Then there was the fact that I never knew what I wanted to watch until something leapt out at me, usually using great cover art that didn't let you know how shit the film was. I LOVED the Horror and Sci-fi sections for that reason alone. Just ten years ago I was still renting 3 VHS movies 3 times a week and my most comfy memories was sitting in my apartment during the winter. As the cold and snow blasted outside I was wrapped snugly in my pajamas, drinking hot chocolate and doing a video triple bill. Sure, DVD's has been out for a while but unless you're a certain age, I'm turning 39 this year, you'll never know just how much fucking stuff was put out onto video back in the day to the point that maybe less than 25% of that ever ended up on DVD and easily less than 10% on Bluray!!!FACT!!!

There was a great video store chain around me (not Shitbuster). I loved going there. It was right next to the supermarket so I could always go there when my mom went shopping. I remember when they were going out of business, they began selling all of their movies for EXTREMELY cheap (like $.50 a movie). I went there and literally bought half the horror section. I have a fucking closet full of 80s and 90s horror movies on VHS including the entire Halloween, Friday the 13th, Leprechaun, Amityville Horror and several other collections.

I NEVER rented at Shitbuster in my life, I preferred the mom and pop video stores, and I was soo fucking happy when they went bankrupt. I miss those times of discovery where finding a movie at the store was like discovering treasure.

>>
I only went to video stores a couple times as a child. My mom made me stay next to the front door and look at the floor so I wouldn't see anything 'adult' on a game cover or movie poster. She'd grab a couple shitty kids movies from like the 50s or 60s, and that was it. I never realized how many cool movies existed until I was older, and by then the rental places were dying out. Sucks to think how many movies are gone forever because they weren't considered good enough to make the transition to DVD. I really wish I had gotten to be part of that era before it disappeared. Did see poltergeist on TV late one night when I was about 5, it fucked me up for a couple years.

To get to the bathroom in our house, you had go down a long (like 30 foot) hallway that had closets and pantries on either side.

Everytime I'd go down that hallway at night I could hear the scene where that guy that got left behind in the fire called out to his captain. I pissed in a cup for like 2 weeks to avoid going to the bathroom.

Just bible belt fundamentalists. It was scary growing up. Like I was constantly terrified that God was going to send me to hell for some fault or other. And of course, the government was going to 'take us all away to concentration camps because we are Christians and have guns and home school'. I ended up with a lot of mental problems; depression, anxiety, paranoia. Tried to kill myself qhen i was 15 because thought god hated me because I found porn and jacked off. Parents found out, took the door off my room so they could 'help me stay pure', told me I couldn't kill myself because I wouldn't be able to ask God to forgive me, and would go to hell. I ended up walking away from the whole family for a while when I went to college and had my eyes opened to how the real world works. I've also had counseling since then, trying to get my mind repaired. Any particular types of stuff you want to ask about or anything?

At least you got an explanation about things. I never got 'the talk' or had anything about sex or relationships explained to me. I was pretty much clueless for a long time. My parents actually cut out the chapters about puberty/ reproduction from the biology books they taught me from. Also skipped evolution, and did not allow me to read about prehistoric/prehuman archeology, as it was clearly lies because the fossil record does not support a literal reading of the bible. I missed out on a lot of education. Only had one friend growing up, his family was almost as fucked up as mine. Had no female friends until I was in college, as I was not permitted to interact with girls my own age in middle and high school as it would have 'lead to impure thoughts or worse'. And of courseach there was lots of hypocrisy as I realized later in life. Lots of intentional lies.
