I saw it when I was 3 or 4 years old, got a mental image of that movie in my head since... It terrified me.
Only found out which movie it was more than 20 years later, while browsing around with a friend for the most terrifying/shocking movies out there. Why would anyone even put this on TV 20 years ago for a kid to see?
>>720774840 I loved horror movies as a kid, they were my dream-world reality. Sometimes I was an onlooker, sometimes I was the monster. What movie caused me to loose sleep? The ancient Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, my dad had it and said it was a wonderful kids' movie. The insanity of that movie stirred me for years.
>>720774840 never really had a movie terrify me for years, but i did remember seeing the freddy krueger part where the kid was in a home and it burned him alive. that shit is terrifying to think about have happen to you.
>be me >6 or 7 years old >go to family video to rent Harvest Moon 64 for 100th time >get home, open box >see "Body Harvest" >dafuq.jpeg >Proceed to be scared shitless by pic related >mom flips shit about M rated game mixup >DoesntReallyGiveAShit >Family video so sorry they let me keep the game for free >makes total sense >still have the copy to this day. I wish harvest moon 64 wasnt so expensive tho
When i was in grade 5 my mom let me pick out a movie for my birthday party. I chose SLEEPAWAY CAMP 3 on VHS. Lol, realistic murders and fucking. My friends were all pretty shocked. Didnt fuck with my sleep, but the creativeness of the killings, as opposed to your Freddys and Jasons, i still remember like 20 yrs later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMq9rCTq2J4
>>720776113 A lot of old N64 games are getting expensive sadly. But hey! A criminally underrated Harvest Moon is Magical Melody! The art style can be a bit of a turn off at first, but the game is so incredibly addictive. Just listening to the Fall theme puts incredible nostalgia in my heart.
We rented three copies from a locally owned video store. The clerk looked at us three tween kids of acne and said "you know this is pretty hardcore stuff" right?" We said we did and proceeded to watch people commit suicide and money brains being eaten. It fucked with me pretty bad really. Even if some of it is fake or staged. Anyway, I'd just discovered totse at the time and save for rotten and vomit lunch and later on goregasm and ogrish was pretty unacquainted with gore or torture porn.
The headspinning etc was fucked up but what really got me as a kid was how before she became fully possessed her bed would shake. I had an old bed and it would shake every time I rolled over so that would scare the shit out of me.
Also that scene where she tells the astronaut he's going to die then pisses herself. There's something creepy about that part that still gives me chills even now when I think about it.
>>720776843 Oh fuck yes ! I was a teen when i seen it, but yea even as an adult those scenes in the alien operating room get me uncomfortable. The black gooey grease they smear into his mouth too.... You know thats based off of a "true" incident, or so its said, right?
I view it now as ridiculous, seeing as how the death is kinda funny, but back then I was like 5 or younger and at a friend's house when this was on TV. It was the train scene in Final Destination. I haven't seen a grahic death like that before so I was shooken up really well. I had ightmares for months and I went super catholic trying to pray the nightmares away.
It was the whole scene, but specifically the decapitation at 3:15
great times. My family used to rent from this small video store operated by asians which was way cheaper than Blockbuster or Hollywood video. Rent 2 movies and the 3rd one was free. And the beauty of it was that I could use my parent's card and rent R rated movies on my own. I was still in middle school.
then later on in High School. I would go with my edgy buddies and we would rent a series called "faces of death". Pretty much Rekt thread videos long before 4chan.
LOL, and once my dad paid a late fees on some porn of mine. Awkward as fuck at the time, but he didn't make it a huge deal.
>>720778020 the feels of this picture. I had a movie rental place nearby called the Movie Shoppe, smelled like buttered popcorn and had posters everywhere. Now it's a distant memory from another world.
Aw fuck this thread. All it does is remind me of my dad taking me to the video rental place and disappearing into the over-18 section for an hour while I stood there waiting for him to come back out so we could go home empty handed for the hundredth time.
>>720775458 Sometimes I think I'm the only one who viewed things this way. Horror movies were hilarious to me as a kid. The real terror came from the odd family movies I came across in the 90's like Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Good Lord. Also, shows like Roseanne terrified me.
>>720778915 People ordered it in a restaurant "white people" and only the head of the monkey popped out the top of the table, then bashed to death and open up the skull to eat brains . Ffs people are fucked
>>720778237 >>720778020 >yes, I remember the alligator clip they also had one where they showed people sitting at restaurant table eating the brains from a living chimp. The poor bastard was strapped from underneath, and only his head protruded from the table with the top of the scalp removed.
I agree....I member going to the video store on fridays and getting to pick out a game or two movies to watch. They had a door beside the counter labled 18+ it was a whole room of porno. I never went in there.
One time the owner's daughter was trying to make friendly conversation about a new release I was getting, but underneath that I had two porn vids. Her face and mood changed in a heart beat. LOL's. fuck, that would never happen today.
and I don't even know why I felt bad about it. It was her parent's porn. I was simply renting it.
>>720774840 Some haunted house movie from like the 80`s 90s. Cant remember the name, but the family leaves the house and goes to the park and sees the ghost so they run home and the neighbors are freaking out cause it sounds like a murder is taking place at the haunted house.
I remember the cheesey horror genre. This one i seen, CHOPPING MALL, was a group of teens hideout in the Mall until it closes, then try to party. Little do they know theres new security robots that patrol the mall at night. Lots of tits, lots of bad acting. Just the way i liked my 90's horrors. Lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7rE_ZD5YWI
>>720774893 >Be Australian >Immediately recognize the spiders as the Huntsmen that you see every day >They even swarm in groups like that in real life because they live in colonies and don't make webs >yfw there's a horror movie about something that looks normal to you
>Jews everywhere >Jew works in a mine or some other hard labor- obviously not by choice >movie seems to get better >Jew gets better job with horses >aww this movie has ups n downs grr >Jew races chariots, doesn't lose >gosh this movie sucks >suddenly there's christains in the movie. >fuck this movie sucks- I want to invent a thing where there's Only the chariot race and you can change the movie with buttons, on a remote >maybe even steer the chariot and totally skip the part with Jews, Jesus, Lepers, and all the bullshit >I invented the worlds first video game in 1960. >decided to spend more effort into learning to identify Jews, Muslims using genetic magic markers. Realize European Jews are mixed race. Give up. Concentrate on Muslims because they have been Slav-Squatting on land for 1400 years and control their women so much that they're much less mixed race. Realize though that they attacked European cities and took men and women and children as Slaves. Fuck. How about we simply test for religiousness and such. Extra chromosomes are easy to detect. Problem solved.
>>720776730 The videos were fake and pictures were real. I remember my mom let me rent it when I was 8. I got about 10 minutes in and said fuck it then proceeded to watch a pro wrestling video. When I was 11 my cousin and me rented Banned from America. Managed to make it through the whole video because I didn't want him to think I was a pussy. Banned from America was pretty much all real shit.
I'm a lifelong Horror fan and this video, Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors, was released 31 years ago in 1986, having been shot in December of 1985. It's my most beloved video EVER and fills me with profound sadness and nostalgia. Most of you will never know how comfy it was back then to go to the video store. https://youtu.be/jjarx7G2Kb8
Oh and for any of you nostalgia fags, may I recommend buying and reading VHS Ate My Brain by Andrew Hawnt. It's a self published bio about his love for videostores and reflects my own feelings despite the fact that he grew up in England while I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. That book put me onto some great stuff for fans of video stores and videotapes. One of those things was Adjust Your Tracking which is an awesome little doc about videostores and tape collectors. https://youtu.be/vvGNfx0TaE4
Another excellent doc is Rewind This! https://youtu.be/Bj1Y7eMNOzo
>>720784520 This fucking scene. When the kid flips out the door. My friends and I rewound and rewatched that shit millions of time, cracking the fuck up. (Fast forward to 2:38) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25_Kvrl7agM
What really fucked me up was that my mom is a biologist and worked in a facility with a Level 4 containment area. She would tell me stories about some of the shit they had there and only reinforce the fear. I was in elementary school and she had me read The Hot Zone ffs.
>>720774840 OP, I miss videostores. Online streaming might be convenient but what I miss about going to the store is that it felt like a trip out where you didn't know who you'd bump into. Then there was the fact that I never knew what I wanted to watch until something leapt out at me, usually using great cover art that didn't let you know how shit the film was. I LOVED the Horror and Sci-fi sections for that reason alone. Just ten years ago I was still renting 3 VHS movies 3 times a week and my most comfy memories was sitting in my apartment during the winter. As the cold and snow blasted outside I was wrapped snugly in my pajamas, drinking hot chocolate and doing a video triple bill. Sure, DVD's has been out for a while but unless you're a certain age, I'm turning 39 this year, you'll never know just how much fucking stuff was put out onto video back in the day to the point that maybe less than 25% of that ever ended up on DVD and easily less than 10% on Bluray!!!FACT!!!
>>720788963 There was a great video store chain around me (not Shitbuster). I loved going there. It was right next to the supermarket so I could always go there when my mom went shopping. I remember when they were going out of business, they began selling all of their movies for EXTREMELY cheap (like $.50 a movie). I went there and literally bought half the horror section. I have a fucking closet full of 80s and 90s horror movies on VHS including the entire Halloween, Friday the 13th, Leprechaun, Amityville Horror and several other collections.
What's that movie I think it's from the late eighties early nineties were there playing war games but there happened to be a live grenade and one dude jumps and lays on top of it to save everyone else?
>>720789485 I NEVER rented at Shitbuster in my life, I preferred the mom and pop video stores, and I was soo fucking happy when they went bankrupt. Those family owned stores were the best because they always had a great selection of Horror/Exploitation and would let me rent whatever I wanted even when I was young. I miss those times of discovery where finding a movie at the store was like discovering treasure.
>>720774840 The fucking 1999 version of House on Haunted Hill killed me as a kid. I don't remember anything about the movie really, but I do remember not sleeping many nights. There was another movie I think called Volcano that got me too as a kid. Lots of sleepless nights worrying about my floor opening up and swallowing me in.
>>720790236 Dude the first one was so good. Soundtrack was dope, the story and motive was actually half decent, and it wasn't too kidish given the concept and its next few games. I remember just sitting on the Galaxy Monkey screen playing for as long as I could because of how fucking incredible the music was.
I only went to video stores a couple times as a child. My mom made me stay next to the front door and look at the floor so I wouldn't see anything 'adult' on a game cover or movie poster. She'd grab a couple shitty kids movies from like the 50s or 60s, and that was it. I never realized how many cool movies existed until I was older, and by then the rental places were dying out. Sucks to think how many movies are gone forever because they weren't considered good enough to make the transition to DVD. I really wish I had gotten to be part of that era before it disappeared. Did see poltergeist on TV late one night when I was about 5, it fucked me up for a couple years.
>>720774840 Event horizon. Was still barely a kid when I saw it (12). To get to the bathroom in our house, you had go down a long (like 30 foot) hallway that had closets and pantries on either side.
Everytime I'd go down that hallway at night I could hear the scene where that guy that got left behind in the fire called out to his captain. I pissed in a cup for like 2 weeks to avoid going to the bathroom.
>>720788963 That was the glory of VHS mom n pop stores, you would find the most random stuff. I remember a really, like psycadelic horror movie, caant think of the name.... But all i remember was people dressed up in Cow costumes singing a song "I'm soo happy, i'm so happpppy" after killing someone i guess?. Like WTF is that? I mustve been like 8yrs old. But thats just it, you'd never see odd ball independent shit like that anymore. Bring back the weird.
>>720789480 same here fun fact watched lots of diff scary movies to but was like normal day or two and i got over them took me god dam fucking 10 years with nightmares and all of that shity crap to get over fucking alien movies fun fact was 18 when i finally said fuck it so there is truth in this ratings
>>720792044 Just bible belt fundamentalists. It was scary growing up. Like I was constantly terrified that God was going to send me to hell for some fault or other. And of course, the government was going to 'take us all away to concentration camps because we are Christians and have guns and home school'. I ended up with a lot of mental problems; depression, anxiety, paranoia. Tried to kill myself qhen i was 15 because thought god hated me because I found porn and jacked off. Parents found out, took the door off my room so they could 'help me stay pure', told me I couldn't kill myself because I wouldn't be able to ask God to forgive me, and would go to hell. I ended up walking away from the whole family for a while when I went to college and had my eyes opened to how the real world works. I've also had counseling since then, trying to get my mind repaired. Any particular types of stuff you want to ask about or anything?
>>720774840 Can't remember really watching horrors as a kid but I watched pic related and the witch in the tooth scene really fucked me up. Now I still have nightmares of rotten teeth or my own teeth getting pulled out
>>720792954 I was raised on these VHS's.. I boldly remember one tale where people swim out to a floating dock in a small man made lake, and this gooey blob comes up through the wood planks and engulfs/kills them. Then quietly floats away. Was awesome stuff as a kid.
If any of you are keeping tabs on listed movies youve never seen here. Bookmark this cult classic and watch it sometime. Full movie on youtube. Its just got a small distortion in the middle to prevent copyrighted issues. My mom let me rent this for my birthday party in Grade 5 LMFAO!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYkwiFzM7kU
>>720793243 At least you got an explanation about things. I never got 'the talk' or had anything about sex or relationships explained to me. I was pretty much clueless for a long time. My parents actually cut out the chapters about puberty/ reproduction from the biology books they taught me from. Also skipped evolution, and did not allow me to read about prehistoric/prehuman archeology, as it was clearly lies because the fossil record does not support a literal reading of the bible. I missed out on a lot of education. Only had one friend growing up, his family was almost as fucked up as mine. Had no female friends until I was in college, as I was not permitted to interact with girls my own age in middle and high school as it would have 'lead to impure thoughts or worse'. And of courseach there was lots of hypocrisy as I realized later in life. Lots of intentional lies.
Watched it when I was a kid about 5 yo. The scene where the huge head came down the hallway was the one that stayed with me for years. Despite the effects being quite second rate by today's standards, the scare factor from my 5 yo somehow stayed after all the years.
