Hey /b/, I'm a young American looking to get a fun muscle car to cruise in on the weekends, and am having trouble finding a working one that is under 10 grand and doesn't need another 10 k in repairs. Any advice? Car recommendations? Listings? (Pic somewhat related, dream car)
>>
>>719945321

I really don't think that's possible, muscle cars now sell for 75k to 100k and if you get a run down one your gonna put about 50k into it.
>>
Good luck with that. Fast cars are like dope speed costs money. Hope this helps.
BTW I'm into my Camaro for over 40,000.00
630 HP 695 FT LBS torque.
>>
>>719945520
It just amazes me that cars once considered common and usually trashed or cheap have gone up so much
>>
>>719945770
well they have become rare, and lots of older people want them so they can remember their youth, that means they are desired, it's just pure economics
>>
>>719945321

just buy a camaroe or mustang that is a few years old
>>
>>719946124
But then I'd be stuck getting a v6 most likely, and the styling isn't near as good as any older ones... Only exception being the challenger
>>
>>719945321

Have you considered that you may be a FAG..?
>>
>>719946124
for under 10k, you can find LSx swapped third gen camaro's (the iroc years). with the lsx, they're pretty damn potent and very typical muscle
>>
>>719946357
Thanks for the tip
>>
If you have to ask..It is not ment to be.
>>
>>719945321
Most muscle cars dont sell for 75k to 100k these days.
You can find a hot rod/ rat rod junkie on craigslist.
They are not in it for the money I guarantee you.
You will be able to find a mild 400hp for under 10k on craigslist that doesnt need any repairs at all whatsoever.

go to craigslist.
go to cars by owner
put in the year minimum as 1900
put in max years at 1979 or 1981

have fun.
I was in the exact same situation you were in a few years ago and my options were endless. good luck!
also check out other areas to consider getting the car shipped all is possible including shipping under 10k
>>
>>719945321

They are a black hole of money.

You can't drive them regularly, they just aren't like modern cars. They will need regular work to keep them running, and breaking down can and will happen.

the ONE thing that does work is getting a restomod. That's an old car where all new parts have been put into it. The problem with that is a good restomod will be at least $30k. And a truly legit restomod will be $40k to $50k.

You can buy an early to mid 2000's mustang or camaro
>>719946293
Lol seriously you only have 10g's and you worrying about cylinders? You get what you pay for kid. Also you can just slap and ebay turbo on that bitch to give it more power on the cheap. Besides, at this point you should just worry about the car being stylish(and functional) So you can get some pussy out of it. (Trust me, bitches don't know cars and if its pretty and shinny, they'll put slop on that knob)

You should also try to buy a car from an old person because they(usually) take care of their cars. Not to mention that old men going through a midlife crisis are prone to impulse buy a muscle or sports car they cant handle to 're-live the wonder years' only to sell it a few years later for cheap.

Also NEVER EVER take a car with ANY transmission problem no matter how light they say it is.

Camaros and Mustangs are girl cars, new or old but a resto'd stang is extremely cheap. You can usually nab a 66-69 for 10k but you get what you pay for as Ford power plants are junk. You could also just grab a 50's chevy coupe, tub it and drop a 350/400 engine hooked up to a 350 turbo/400 turbo tranny. Cheap with plenty of power as long as you up the compression/jam a heavy crank in there/aluminum intake/true duel exhaustcatilytic converters not needed unless you live in Cuckifornia). My 400 SB that I ripped out of a 76' Caprice classic and shoved into my 85' K10 produces 340 RWHP with 0 modifications to my compression other then a performance cam intake carb etc. GM is cheap, easy and a helluva lot more reliable then Ford. Monza's are also fun and cheap. Or you could get lucky and find a restorable early 70's Buick, Pontiac or Olds BB car off an old fart for cheap like I did with my 72' 442. Car cost 3500(numbers matching 455 car) and after roughly 3 years cost me 10k for total restoration since I did 90% of the labor other then the interior. Chryslers cars are powerful but very costly.

Nigga, I've had the MOST issues out of post 88' vehicles, mostly stemming from electrical issues. Olders vehicles can and will outlast most of the shit produced by the chinese quality junk that's been produced 1990's+ with proper care and maintenance only. The ONLY computerized vehicle that hasn't let me down is my 04' Access Cab 4WD 4.7L Tundra. I've been through a Blazer, Trailblazer, Camaro, a few Rams, Escort, Civic Del Sol, Camry, Jeep TJ and a couple others that I can't remember at the moment. All cared for and maintained, all ranging from 93-2005, all ended up with either 4wd going out, transmission issues(Trailblazer and the 98' Ram I had), injectors failing, fuel pumps and much much more. Mechanical > electrical.

Implying just as many young people aren't after these cars. Besides the more of them that get wrecked or parted out the more valuable the rest become. I know a guy who exports hotrods and muscle cars over seas and gets 2-3 times as much as they sell for here. He sells a lot of cars to the Chinese they love that shit it's like a damn status symbol. Most muscle cars did not have very good rust proofing. So most of them have simply wasted away and become worthless. Only the ones that were actively preserved are still in good condition today.

Bullshit. Most cars today will go past 100,000 miles without needing anything more than oil changes, break pads, and tires.

That was absolutely unheard of in the "golden age" of muscle cars. 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty is pretty standard these days. A company would have gone bankrupt offering a warranty like that in the 60s and 70s.

True, on long trips a lot of car owners would travel with tool boxes and spare parts because cars were known for breaking down. This guy just heard his dad and grandpa say that old line and repeats it. Probably thinks he knows a lot about cars too, it's just a shame.

the best option is to look for a Plymouth fury II or a dodge dart maybe an some AMC out there for good price running just got to go looking.

>superbird
> >$10K

You're 30 years too late, anon.
>>
>>719945770
It's typically early gens that are like that. late 60's were fucking great. 16 years ago. You could pick up a good 69 Camaro for under 10k easy. Ever since cash for clunkers and economy tanked. Prices went astronomical even for a beater.

early gen C-10's are's slowly doing the same thing Camaro's and RoadRunners ect did.
Was a shop in Glassgow Ky in 2000. Old man had pristine Roadrunners Cuda's. everything. He was selling them for great prices. Not cheap but good prices. I imagine those cars today are worth much much more.

I'd look for a clean unmodified C10. Meaning no body mods. No conversions. motor and trans don't have to be original or stock. But the body. Needs to be pretty much untouched. Unhacked. ect. They are going up in price. Rockers and cab corners are biggest rust issue usually.
>>
Go buy a Dodge Dart for a couple grand and you can convert it into a Dodge Demon clone over time.

Keep looking, go to local car meets search ads, make connections, eventually you will find something. Some poor bastard will have to sell his car because of a divorce or a third DWI.
Otherwise look for a 2005 2006 Dodge R/T. They don't have towering prices, would need less repair, and go like a raped ape.

youve been given some really good advice in this thread, im genuinely impressed.

my advice is to forget about the "muscle" label, go to ebay and search for all cars from the 60's (the best decade for cars). find a model that you like and search around for more of the same make/model. don't worry about if it's a v8 or how fast it can go, the coolest cars are the ones that look good, and driving fast in a classic car is for douchebags. buy an already restored one, it will cost you a lot less time, money, and stress. dont buy one with any rust, and don't just take the sellers word that there isn't any rust, people fucking lie. some cool cars to check out (IMO):

I'll never forget my dad pulling in the driveway with the Mustang thinking it would be a fun surprise and my mom having a nuclear meltdown instead. He traded in his Ford Explorer for it.

I can understand her point of view though. We didn't really have a lot of money at the time and his Explorer was only like 5 years old meanwhile she was driving a 10+ year old Chrysler minivan and the driver's side power window didn't work and it ran like shit. Quad turbo intercooled flux capacitors running liquid nitrogen inter... meh

Japs wind a 3 or 4 litre engine up so hard and tight that its right on the edge of collapsing in a mini black hole. 400kw in a ricer will give you 10,000km, if youre lucky.

On the other hand murican V8... puttz along so lazy and under stressed, twice the torque, half the effort. 400kw engine is good for a quarter million miles.

Yeah. It's not a take off gear or really relevant to wheeling. Just a detail I recall. I pulled a farm tractor up a 150ft drop off once with it idling in 1st. I mean it's not that big of a deal. But it's just a detail I recall.
>>
>>719958921
Why not both?

LS swapped S2000s are the shit. Front of the block is behind the front shocks so technically it is mid engine. I've seen pictures of a S2000 on corner scales in a forum with a LS swap that still had 50.5/49.5 weight distribution with the V8.

End up being like 400lbs lighter than a corvette. Plus all the ricer fanbois have a heart attack when they see an American V8 in a Honda.

Or keep them going until they are tired of them and sell. My 1979 international scout II with a 345 had like 5 different kinds of primer on it. That beast was mechanically sound and a mud demon. I was constantly buying new stuff for it from the IH place in Ohio. She looked rough. Had straight pipes. Gawd awful racket. There was nothing trash about that truck. There was no point in a good paint job. It would have been ruined in weeks.

That one was stolen from me. never got it back. That was my first vehicle. Put captains chairs in it out of one of those big vans. Comfy as fuck.

I like RX-7 V* swaps but if you look at the location of the block it's about midway over the front wheels on the RX-7. S2000 has much more weight on the rear wheels. That will make it put the power down better and also have more neutral handling.
