I do this from time to time, if you have any pressing questions, now is the time. Photos/xray uploads are useful. Nothing I say on here is definite, I cannot make a 100% for sure diagnosis without actually seeing the pt in real life.
About me: 30 years old, graduated from well known east coast dental school in 2012, did a 1 year general dentistry residency. Currently practicing in Southern California.
>>719906328 Took the MCAT, good a 31, easily could have gotten into a mid-tier med school. Ultimately there was too much uncertainty. I didn't want to be a family prac doc (their lives suck), and the things I would have wanted to do (Derm) are super competitive and I wasn't confident that I could get into a derm residency. Dental was a shorter, less stress, guaranteed decent outcome route. I also don't have to worry about killing patients (99% of the time).
I use to have braces but I never got them professionally removed, all the brace parts are off now (did it myself) but the ones on the molars are still there. Will a dentist remove them cheaply without giving me much hassle? My teeth look good now.
>>719906382 Amalgam still has a place, the mercury "Issue" is largely BS. Amalgam is great if you can't keep the tooth totally dry during the filling (white fillings suck if they get wet before setting).
>>719906498 Could be a stain, could be a cavity. Some cavities never get sensitive, so that's not a good indicator. I would get a exam/cleaning.
>>719905912 I have a ZOE filled molar on the bottom right side of my mouth. My dentist says I need a root canal and crown on it, but i cant afford it even with insurance. My question is, what is going to happen if I just leave it as is?
>>719905912 a tooth that i have a filling in hurts if i bite down on it too hard whilst chewing, when i last went to the dentist i didn't mention it to her (scared of dentist) to see if shed notice herself, but she said everything is perfectly fine. Its a sharp pain that if i bite extremely hard can lead to throbbing which ive had to take ibuprofen to soothe pls help mr dentist
>>719905912 I have an occlusal 47 class I restoration done with composite about 4-5 years ago not sure, dentist wanted to open it up to check and refill with composite but I'm thinking of going gold for how long it lasts.. don't want an eventual root canal and crown in like 15 years or some shit. Aside from price, what do?
>>719905912 Should I get my teeth laser whiten is it worth the money or is there a better way to whitening teeth. My teeth aren't yellow or coffee stains or cigs stains just want to make them white and no I will not use baking soda.
I grind the ever loving shit out of my teeth. I have actually bitten off pieces of them in my sleep. Problem is that I create abscesses in the teeth and then bacteria annihilates them from those.
Is there anything at all I can do about this that will prevent me from needing to have all of my teeth replaced before I'm 30? I've tried dental guards for when I sleep, and I chew through the soft ones, and the hard ones kind of just compound the problem.
I'm more worried about the "talking too" I'll get for not having done them proper since I'm a reeeeetard. Also some of the brace glue is still on some teeth, I imagine that's easy to remove as well, everything I tried at home has NOT worked in removing it.
>>719905912 at the very far bottom left and right some tiny holes/openings. Once in a while I can suck weird semi-solid and smelly things out of them. usually ricecorn size. Have some bigger thing I could stick the tip of my tongue in. Its next/ alittle away from the teeths, all of it. the bigger "crater" I can stick my tongue in is left. (my perspective)
>>719907223 So this is what I couldn't get a detailed answer from my dentist on. What is the worst that could happen if I lose the tooth? I'm trying to get a 100k salary as a bio statistician, which I will be able to afford a root canal or titanium implant. but until then i don't want to get anything done
Wisdom teeth are coming in. Hasn't been painful at all yet. I can feel them poking through at the back of my jaw (lower only). A little flap of gum hangs over them. Sometimes food gets stuck in the tooth and is hard to get out because of the gum. Should I a) take nail clippers to the gum bit and apply cotton wool until healed b) tie it to the back of the throat so it doesn't hang over the tooth c) seal the gap with foam or d) consume only liquids ?
> Be me > Almost 27 > Have had 3 wisdom teeth for about 8 years now > The 2 in the top slowly chipped away over the years > They're just holes in my gums at this point > Sometimes use toothpick to get what I think is a puss bubble out of the one > 3rd tooth is just sideways and gets meat stuck in it, other than that it's fine > Can't afford dental surgery cause 'Merica > How long till I'm dead?
When I eat something cold after I eat something hot my right upper teeth and left upper teeth start hurting. This also happens sometimes when drinking something cold and when eating something sweet. When eating chocolate it's the worst. Any ideas?
I went to a dental hygenist (no idea if that's what you call them in english) and asked is it possible for me to have braces to fix the gaps in my teeth. She said my jaw is too big, is that a valid answer? my bottom row of teeth are just small and all of them have gaps, my top row teeth aren't straight. Will I have to walk my whole life with teeth that aren't straight? I'm really self-conscious about this.. no one brings it up but I feel like everyone notices and I hate myself for it...
>>719907750 We have one of the best who do gold here, being on the 47 I figured I might as well get it (can't see it) also after being exposed to this shit in dental school I don't want any niggeritis infiltration in my teef. Im just afraid it will look unaesthetic even though you can't see it hmph. I dunno im weird. Would you get gold personally?
>>719905912 Not sure if this is your area of expertise but if you could help I'd appreciate it. I've had a strange sensation in the back of my mouth for about 4 months now. The weird thing about it is that was is only on the left hand side of my mouth. I say was because last week the sensation has now gone to the right side of my mouth.
Its kind of like a dull pain when I swallow. I don't think it's my tonsils as they're not inflamed and don't hurt to touch, so I believe it is behind them perhaps in my sinuses which is why you might not be able to help but if you can give any insight I would be grateful.
>>719905912 whats up dentistbro. i appreciate you coming out from time to time. i usually lurk your threads bur have a legit question.
i had a root canal around 5 years ago. back lower molar. everything was fine, but one day the crown popped off. didn't have money to have it put back, so i was just living with the post and the filling material around it. sometime a few months ago, that also deteriorated and there is a big open hole now. it's been steadily crumbling, but there is no pain, surprisingly. i'm assuming the fake spongey pink stuff vein material is still providing blood to the tooth. it is most likely trashed beyond repair, and i surely will not have money to fix it. how long would you say an exposed old root canal can go before it becomes infected? or worse? i've read varying stories from abcesses to blood poisoning, but it's been doing just fine, although being very ugly, for a long time. is there any real way to save it? or is it 100% gotta be extracted? i'd hate to lose the money i dumped into this tooth to have it yanked anyway.
>>719905912 i recently got a small cavity filled, been a few weeks and its quite sensitive in a certain spot when I chew there, do u reckon the filling broke or is it close to a nerve or something I don't know about. probability of there being a new cavity is close to nihil since I had a xray and this was the only one on it.
>>719905912 I have 2 impacted wisdom teeth; I also have 2 supernumerary wisdom teeth, one left one right side. I can not find a single doctor that will remove them due to worry for nerve in the jaw. I CANNOT afford to pay 4k-3k to get this shit dealt with what are my options?
Also I have an supernumerary unerupted incisor, meaning to remove it I'd probably have to take out the first permanent tooth incisor to get at it. Is this necessary? will it grow into my sinuses if it decides to grow?
>>719905912 One of my wisdom teeth is coming through the gum right now, I'm 21. Anything I should do about it? What are the chances of it causing trouble sometime later and having to be removed? Right now I have absolutely no pain or discomfort and it comes pretty fast.
>>719906382 they still use amalgam because its like a crooked auto shop. they know it will cause further problems. it expands and contracts with hot and cold because it is metallic, causing the tooth to crack over time. you will have to come in for more work and they know this. and yes, any kind of friction on amalgam sets off mercury vapor. it's banned in most contries, the fact that they still use it in america is a crime against humanity. dont ever go to a dentist that still uses that toxic shit.
>>719907598 Use listerine and act, buy a power brush, floss for real, and brush 2x/day+ and you'll be fine.
>>719907656 The teeth will shift into the space made by the missing tooth, then you'll need braces to make space for the implant. A lot of trouble. Could also wear a retainer in the mean time. Easier to just get the implant. The bone will also receed over time if you don't take care of it.
>>719907674 Prob not. Sounds more like an implant case to me.
>>719905912 Why do you ruin people's teeth and set them up for failure while telling the patient the 'work' is necessary?
Why do you faggots have such a disrespect for natural enamel, such that even a simple filling causes your Jew ass to grind all the enamel you possibly can, out while also sabotaging the tooth by drilling UNREASONABLY DEEP into the dentin, thus breaching it and opening it up for infection when there is literally no natural equivalent for such a destructive procedure?
Why do you faggots CAUSE TOOTH SENSITIVITY BY THE AFOREMENTIONED SABOTAGE and then tell people they have to live with it forever and have to keep buying numbing toothpastes and repeated dental procedures?
Why do you faggots like to KILL TEETH at the drop of a dime, at the very first sign of pulp irritation, so that the tooth can break shortly thereafter and require DENTAL IMPLANTS??
Why do you misleadpeople into believing that their mottled enamel is caused by "food acids" and "sugars", daring NEVER TO REVEAL THE TRUE CAUSE; FLUOROSIS and instead actually recommend EVEN MORE TOPICAL AND INGESTED FLUORIDE, knowing it will only cause more damage?
Why is the industry revolving around JEWISH SABOTAGE and FULLY CONTROLLED BY JEWS? What about your personality and character is so weak that excessive pay entices you to SABOTAGE PEOPLES TEETH for a living?
I have a bump on the inside of my cheek that will show up every couple months. It's almost like a zit, doesn't hurt, but I can pop it and it releases a clear fluid, may even be saliva. Know what it is?
>>719905912 Ok this should be interesting for you. I have not one but two polyps on my back left tooth. I hurts a bunch. Ever since it started coming through. there's not signs of decay or anything it just tore through my gum like a brick wrapped in barbed wire. What do, I seriously just want it gone.
I only have 15 teeth left, most of them rotted out because of an ex opiate addiction and had to be surgically removed. I want the rest pulled but my Dentist refuses to do it. Is this something he can't do in good conscience, or does he feel he can rake more money out of me if I still have teeth for him to perform expensive ass root canals on if they get to that point.
>>719905912 48 year old male smoker, don't floss. Dental assistant does deep cleaning on me and tells me some of the pockets in my gums are at 6's and 7's. Should I really give a shit? I never get caries and my 82 year old mother never had gher teeth deep cleaned, and hers are fine. Is this just a scam for the practice to make more $$?
>>719905912 Is flossing bullshit? I'm OCD about having food in my teeth and almost constantly have one of those floss pick things in my mouth when I'm at home. Can this cause any problems? Like make my teeth crooked or anything?
>>719908000 I work 4 days/week, and I don't even see "mouths" anymore. I just see a work space. Overall it's like construction in the mouth, I'm good. Pay is good, hours are good, life is good, I'm an adult child that has $$ to do whatever the fuck I want (within reason). I spent $3000 on snowboards this year, I'm far from suicidal - that's generally a myth.
I've stopped brushing my teeth for about 3 years now. Apart from calculus/tartar (not a native English speaker so forgive me if i'm wrong) popping up every semi yearly check there hasn't been anything wrong yet. Should I go on with this as I have no problems at all?
>>719908035 Te recomiendo consultar con un profesional especializado en Ortodoncia, los higienistas no poseen los estudios para dar una respuesta tan categórica, menos sin antes haber realizado un estudio cefalométrico del caso. Puede ser que necesites cirugía maxilofacial además de ortodoncia, pero siempre es bueno hablar con quien es especialista en el área.
>>719906853 You need a root canal, love. I'm not the, or a dentist, but I've had something a lot like you. Something about drilling into your nerves, upsetting them, and they slowly die over the course of like 5 years. If you don't get it fixed you'll lose the tooth.
