Anybody up for an evolution thread?
It's been a while so I'll state the rules.
I propose a very simple species, and dubs or a seven will cause a mutation in the species DNA, which is then passes down through the species, for better or worse. I like to spice up the format by describing the alien environment of our scenario.
We begin with one of the simplest of creatures. The spineless, legless, filter-feeding crustacean. Herbivorous, this species spends it's life eating smaller life forms and eventually breeding and getting killed by age or getting eaten by a bigger animal.
The planet this crustacean lives in is dwarf in comparison to most, but it's rapid rotation allows it to keep a stable atmosphere, and it's within the Goldilocks zone of it's home star. This planet is dominated by a water surface, with the occasional almost island of slightly flooded marshes infested with bugs and small reptiles.
Upon the great seas, crustaceans, ranging from microscopic to colossal roam the shifting sands among various mollusks and fish. Species of birds adapted to great flights between surface swamps roam the surface living care free. Floating the surface of the water, is a thick layer of algae like organisms that feed on the waste products of other organisms, leaving the rest of the water in nearly complete darkness.
Again, our species is currently a herbivorous crustacean with no defining features. What will you do with this /b/?
Legends tell of a valiant herbicrustacean named Klo'tar. Klo'tar the Valiant was born upon the prosperous Spire of Blessed Fortune, high above the Abyssal Plains of Solitude, deep beneath the Great Ocean of Westreach. Klo'tar was disturbed from his filter-feeding one day by a mischievous tnurq, and noticed that it had bitten a feeding tentacle off of his brood-mother's left mandible. Outraged, he left his home on his ancestral spire to seek vengeance...
Nah, never touch the stuff.
Klo'tar, however, often frequented the Turq's-claw Saloon in the lower-south quadrant of Blessed Fortune, a filthy and wretched hovel where an herbicrustacean could filter-feed the best Adderall crumblets on the Spire if he had the shells and knew the wrong sort of people.
The Herbicrustacean (as you have dubbed it) bears a very disk like shape to "roll" through the water. While this is generally useless, it makes it more mobile. (sorry, take a while to draw)
4 real this time.
The addition of some rudimentary muscle, which was basically just shaking chitin, and some blubber, made a very rudimentary form of communication between Herbicrustaceans, allows such messages as, "there's a big fucking fish here" and, "there's a REALLY big fish here". Good job.
Miraculously, the Herbicrustacean evolved fins, limbs, feet, hands, aposable thumbs, and precise fingers all at once. You can use hands now.
black and white because I can't be fucked with color.
You can see better now, maybe those swamps aren't too bad anymore?
It's pretty well equipped for land travel now with better lungs and digestive track.
It gains the ability to attack other living organism on a cellular level, hijack their nervous system and drive around their body while absorbing nutrients from it's unwilling host.
harder than it looks
herby's got a sail, to go with the orange comb-over and all the rest
