Anybody up for an evolution thread?
It's been a while so I'll state the rules.
I propose a very simple species, and dubs or a seven will cause a mutation in the species DNA, which is then passes down through the species, for better or worse. I like to spice up the format by describing the alien environment of our scenario.
We begin with one of the simplest of creatures. The spineless, legless, filter-feeding crustacean. Herbivorous, this species spends it's life eating smaller life forms and eventually breeding and getting killed by age or getting eaten by a bigger animal.
The planet this crustacean lives in is dwarf in comparison to most, but it's rapid rotation allows it to keep a stable atmosphere, and it's within the Goldilocks zone of it's home star. This planet is dominated by a water surface, with the occasional almost island of slightly flooded marshes infested with bugs and small reptiles.
Upon the great seas, crustaceans, ranging from microscopic to colossal roam the shifting sands among various mollusks and fish. Species of birds adapted to great flights between surface swamps roam the surface living care free. Floating the surface of the water, is a thick layer of algae like organisms that feed on the waste products of other organisms, leaving the rest of the water in nearly complete darkness.
Again, our species is currently a herbivorous crustacean with no defining features. What will you do with this /b/?

The Herbicrustacean (as you have dubbed it) bears a very disk like shape to "roll" through the water. While this is generally useless, it makes it more mobile. (sorry, take a while to draw)

The addition of some rudimentary muscle, which was basically just shaking chitin, and some blubber, made a very rudimentary form of communication between Herbicrustaceans, allows such messages as, "there's a big fucking fish here" and, "there's a REALLY big fish here". Good job.
