The reason it was created was because more populated areas like L.A. and NYC would have more votes than rural areas like Wyoming or East Texas. All a politician would have to do is win over a few key cities and they'd win the election. The electoral college gives each county an equal say in the election process, which is also why we can't abolish it entirely. Technically, it still solves the problem it was created to solve. Popular vote doesn't matter as much as the electoral vote, because 4mill ballots from a liberal city could outweigh the 1mil in a rural area and silence that areas voice entirely.

The point of the electoral college is to give states better representation. If the election was decided by popular vote, then three or four states would control the rest of America, and the desires of other states would be entirely ignored.

Not only that, but when you consider Clinton's control of the media and, more importantly, the fact that liberals got some states to not enforce voter IDs and allow illegal immigrants to vote, means this wasn't the fairest of elections. Hilary rigged the election and still lost.

The system ensures that everyone has EQUAL voting power, otherwise everyone would just move to a populated city just to vote for a candidate they like every election and then move right back to their irrelevant county once they win via the popular vote only.
