Leave the mopping up/subsequent decade of contineous skirmishing and guerilla warfare to the various kurdish militias (or whoever. There are like 100 different factions fighting in Syria) and proclaim mission accomplished.

It will be a huge boost to Trump's popularity in the short run adn a GOP controlled senate/congress would be fools not to realize that. They know that in today's climate of fake news and opinion trumping facts, they can just tell the american people that they won and people would believe them. It's not as if anyone in the electorate even follows what is happening in Syria on a day to day basis. They will gasp when some american guys head is chopped off sure, but then they wills pend the next few weeks debating wether or not it was a cia false flag operation.

And we know that Trump is able to sell any narrative that he wants to his voters. The rest of the population is so jaded with news of syria that literally noone will care if isis is really defeated or not.

Well Syria needs peace and stability.

As soon as Isis is out of the picture then Assad and Putin will be able to start mopping up syrian rebels and their families and start planting them in massgraves out in the desert.

Assas needs to regain absolute power and start rebuilding his country again. As stability is brought back to the region, so will the refugees be able to start reclaiming their lands and their homes.
