>>717306137 Nope. It's just a sign that you have more of a vested interest in the real world and real people than blowing yourself up for your One God or reminding your four-year-old daughter that it's okay that Fluffy died because he's going to a magical wonderland where he can be happy forever.
Basically this. There are some embarrassingly stupid atheists just as there are some ridiculously smart religious folk. But being smart correlates moderately with being an atheist and being dumb correlates very, very, *very* strongly with being religious. I don't mean religious in the "I was raised a Catholic but haven't been to church sense I was a teenager." sense, rather. in the "If you don't accept Christ as your savior you're going to hell." sense. Oddly enough there is a certain threshold of intelligence being religious can lead to all sorts of extremism. Some people are so smart they can rationalize anything. If they happen to be religious then it's easy for themselves to convince themselves of the correctness of their religion and necessity of forcefully converting (or killing) non-believers. Unfortunately nothing, including intelligence, seems to correlate with rationality.
Does being an Atheist make you more intelligent? -Yes. -Stupid, a bit. -Open minded. -Atheist learn from their mistakes. Seeing the wonder of the world, space, time and science for what it is the challenge to learn and explore. -Religious people domed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again, because of a book. -Religious = -Close-minded -Stubborn -Idiot -Follows a work of distorted history and fiction
>>717306137 They're completely unrelated. Dumb people can believe bullshit at face value. Intelligent people can justify for themselves believing in bullshit (like weird superstitions such as healing crystals, homeopathy or join a cult like scientology).
The point is to be sceptical of everything you hear or read or think, regardless of how intelligent you are.
It's not the size of the brain that matters, it's what you do with it that counts.
Imagine magic like they have in high fantasy. I like to think of magic as a level of science so high we cant understand it. While magic like that doesn't exist in our world, who's to say some alien race isn't able to cast some kind of fireball like thing with a level of science so high we cannot understand it with conventional means? They would be using the same elements and just manipulating them in some unknown way. Like a chip in the brain that allows them to reform matter into other things. We wouldn't understand how they're doing it but they're still able to do it and that would seem like what we think of as conventional "magic".
Theism and atheism I like to think of in the same way. I think its probably very likely there is no god in the way god has been painted, this almighty all encompassing being. We cannot deny that a god figure exists or doesn't exist with 100% certainty. Maybe we just don't yet have a means of understanding what god is, or how a god would even function outside of how we fantasize a god exists.
TL;DR People who believe god exists 100% are just as annoying as people who deny god exists 100%.
>>717306200 Wrong, atheists are just as stupid as any other religion. Atheists can't prove that god doesn't exist and other religions can't prove that god exists. The real intelligent people are Agnostics.
>>717307325 So? Einstien and Hawking have a score of 160...its all relative as my dad is mensa top percentile but knows jack shit about anything but accounting and finance. The IQ test has already been recongised as a silly way to score intelligence.
No, but it gives you the following personality traits: >degenerate fetishes, such as pedophilia >an interest in retro gaming/indie development >an musical preference for black metal >an unwarranted feeling of self importance >the ability to dress like a 12 year old fanboy >a lifetime membership of the friendzone club >the ability to make cringy okcupid ads >being part of the fat positive movement >an neurotic interest in chinese kids cartoons
>>717310121 >>717310513 >>717310690 You do realize that atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive, right? Most atheists don't say that a god 100% does not exist; those are the fedora-wearing, katana-wielding types. Dawkins, Black Science Guy, Sam Harris, etc. are all agnostic atheists.
>>717313755 >You originally claimed No I didn't. That was someone else.
>>717313755 >I don't see where you're getting this from The Fedoras said you can't be intelligent if you're religious, yet here we have a list of scientists who believe in God. But you can't be a scientist if you aren't intelligent, no?
>>717312497 well my point was more that those people who do believe one way or another incredibly vehemently are the "annoying ones" as long as you aren't a douche I don't care what you believe in. Those who are my way or the highway are the ones I'm calling out specifically. Surely there are decent people from all generalizations.
>>717310690 Atheist = person who does not se a reason to believe in the existance of things that can't be proven to exist. Agnostic = person who isn't shure if there is a reason to believe in the existanse of things that can't be proven to exist. Theist = person who claims that the thing exists that can not be proven ot exist.
>>717316208 How does not believing in fairy tales make you autistic? Is it autistic to not believe Norse mythology as well or are you just hung up on your specific myth used by ancient people to explain things they couldnt?
>>717306137 >>717306200 No, if you're intelligent and scientifically minded then you will say "I don't know if there is a god." not "There is no god."
Atheism is just as retarded in a lot of cases as any other religion.
Humans are, in general, very uncomfortable with the idea of 'random' and the unknown. Making up bullshit ideas because there are things that you either do not understand or will never understand is what makes you a fool.
It is simply not possible to ever know what will happen to you after you die. It is not possible to know what exists outside of our universe. Humans do not like this concept and make up a lot of bullshit to explain them away and 'prove' that they are wrong.
>>717306137 No. Point proven if you're atheist and asking that stupid question. I don't know if it made you more arrogant or not because i don't know what you were like before you were atheist. Or is arrogance an aspect of any religious fanatasicsm, atheist fanatics included? I have noticed such a trend but cannot infer causation due to the uncertainty of whether the arrogance led to the fanatacism rather than being caused by it.
>>717317492 Welcome to the Atheism vs. Theism. No one accomplishes anything.
If you look to my left, you will see Blubbernuts McTubbytits trying fill his "won an internet argument quota" by calling theists stupid and not really make any argument.
If you look to my right, you will see Bible-thumping Barry, jamming keys and screwdrivers in his ears and eyes at the sight of an actual argument against theism and replies with "Wow, edgy fedora, much?"
