Who's really the best band in music history and why is it radiohead?
Radiohead are amazing.
There's no such thing as better or worse music though.
The only thing that defines the standard music is the motivation behind its creation.
For example, music created to make money is soulless. Any music created from the heart is beautiful.
I'm sure Radiohead fit into the second category.
Radiohead are a very good band
Best band tho? Nah sweetie.
Probably The Beatles tbh
Make you think? Tool is to music like Joe Rogan is to politics. Empty-headed psuedo intellectual bullshit that pretends to be really profound when it is really just pretty dumb.
the beatles are shit, deal with it
overrated boyband from the day, the reason why they and many other bands have a following today is because people treated them like keeping up with the kardashians
Like the Rolling Stones, they did shit-house post 1970 yet people for some reason liked them because "hurr mick fagger did somefin with another selebrity lol" or "queef reichards did MOAR drugs whaaat!?! lol xD"
So obviously Radiohead is really good. But not the best band in history.
>What's the point of music if not to incite emotion and thought, kid?
Your fav band then? The Beatles are great. All kinds of people listen to them. I can get if you don't like them cause they're pop, I personally like a lot pop albums.
Most people would differ in opinion there. What's your fav album? I assume you don't like pop in general then?
Another great album btw
Hard to choose, really. I've got a lot of favorite albums and it changes all the time depending upon my mood at the moment. Right now it would probably be a tossup between The Birthday Party's Junkyard and Leonard Cohen's New Skin for the Old Ceremony.
If you're taking Radiohead inspiration:
Miles Davis Electric era
Pink Floyd Ummagumma
Add in Blur/Gorillaz:
Modern style: Zombi, S U R V I V E,
>meriting artistic value in something obscure
Music that is soulless, and made for money often causes a sub par product, but it's not *bad* because it's point is to make money. Loads of music made with heart is absolute shit too. Bad reasons will cause a bad product, but even with pure motives your music can turn to shit if you don't know what you're doing.
>My chemical green day 182 at the disco fan detected
No. Pop punk has always been and will always be garbage. I've never liked a single pop punk artist or song even in the slightest bit in my entire life. It is a garbage genre for people with awful tastes in music.
Queen is a pretty good choice.
Metallica actually comes up if you google it (you have to phrase it a certain way).
lol ok. I know LC but I've never heard of The Birthday Party.
Fat mike pisses me off. He talks about "real" punk because his shit band never took off, and he's a trendy faggot. He just so happens to dress like a women when it becomes popular. Calls himself transvest-Lite. There was already a word for him, trend-sexual. I can't believe I liked that peace of shit. I knew he was an asshole, but he really is shameless.
>never heard of The Birthday Party
What the fuck? How can one claim to know something about music and never have heard of the Birthday Party? Nick Cave is, quite literally, one of the most influential and prolific musicians in modern history.
How come nobody mentioned these gods yet?
nice try troll
dude, I'm from perth, I used to hang around with Cam Avery, he introduced me to Kevin Parker. We started jamming, just the three of us, anyway, the guitar riff I was fucking around with ended up being the basis for the breakout song "Half glass full of wine"
>kevin parker is a talentless hack who steals music
You actually think Nick Cave can surpass the talented genius that is Kevin Parker? Everything the man works on is instant gold. Listen to Innerspeaker and you'll see what I'm talking about you fucking autistic pleb.
>arguably the only successful Australian artist within last 10 years
Except for Nick Cave, who is still making (much better) music and is much more successful
>You actually think Nick Cave can surpass the talented genius that is Kevin Parker?
Yes. Yes, I do. By a pretty wide margin.
nah dickhead, September 2006, my mate Cam invites me to come over to his mate Kev's place to jam, four months later, JJJ plays the song
"You fucking cunt" is what I screamed, from memory
We've crossed paths once since then, he shook my hand and mouthed "Thank you".
That was it. It cemented how much of a cunt he is.
>turn 360 and walk away
>turn around in a circle and keep walking in the same direction.
/b/ wasn't as dumb overall as it is now, I promise. This thread is chalk full of geniuses.
>Is Radiohead the best band in history?
>Are they shit?
>Are they pretty fucking good?
>Are the Beatles the best band in history?
>Are they shit?
>Are they pretty fucking good?
Anyone in this thread that seriously claims Radiohead or The Beatles are shit should get their heads examined. Or get better taste in music, and and understanding of what makes music objectively good-- it might not be to your taste, for some reason, but that doesn't make it bad music.
>Is there objectively good music?
>Is there subjectively good music?
How good music is is a combination of the two. Like any art form. If you hit the high standards of objectively good music, and enough people find it subjectively good, maybe you're a contender for the best musician/band in history. Especially if those people know music.
Agree , the whole Album "In Rainbows" is a masterpiece.
My favourite song on it is "Nude". It brings me tears of joy and sadness at the same time.
Fuck everybody else. ICP forever. Juggalo for life. WHOOP WHOOP!!!
>Anyone in this thread that seriously claims Radiohead or The Beatles are shit should get their heads examined
They're shit. Are they the most shit bands ever? No. Are they anything more than average? Definitely not.
>is there objectively good music?
Fuck off. Music is an art form. It can be well crafted and well performed, but if you as an individual think it's turd then it is. Art you don't like has no value to you as an individual, and is therefore not GOOD. You can admire the craftsmanship or the feeling, but if it's not your schtick, then it's not.
You say "good" when it'd be more active to say "can music be objectively done well".
Yep thank you. Man music nerds can be the moth pretentious people on the planet sometimes. I'm the dude who said The Beatles.
SIP ON A COOL BOTTLE OF FAYGO NINJA! WHOOP WHOOP!!!
so you were silently pissed like a woman? Why didnt you have the balls to tell him to own up to stealing your shit?
I am wrong, kevin parker wasn't the cuck since he is smug alpha, it is infact YOU, YOU are the CUCK ALL ALONG
~JohnTheRegularRedditor signing out
YOU'VE BEEN FAYGO SHOWERED!! MUCH LOVE NINJA!! WHOOP WHOOP!!
him mouthing thank you was the admission dickhead, and what was I supposed to do, kick the shit out of him?
There was like 20 people around, all there for him, if I started anything, I'd have gotten rolled
SURPRISE!! FAYGO SHOWER IN YOUR EYES!! MUCH CLOWN LOVE NINJA. WHOOP WHOOP!!
I tried listening to that shit. Shit fucking sucks asshole. Really, how do you like Radiohead? Boring ass shit. I really tried over and over to try to like it.
>Music is an art form.
That doesn't excuse poor knowledge of music. In fine are, for instance, I can safely write off the opinions of those who think Picasso was shit. Because they obviously have a limited understanding of art. But I can respect someone who says he's not to their taste.
>Art you don't like
Is not the same as bad art. While you don't like it, you can still accept that it is good.
>Art you don't like has no value to you as an individual, and is therefore not GOOD
Not good for you personally, fine. ut that doesn't mean it is not generally good. Some people just don't like The Beatles, but without them, many musicians you like wouldn't be producing what they are. So they are objectively good, regardless of your taste.
>You can admire the craftsmanship or the feeling, but if it's not your schtick, then it's not.
Which is why I said
>it might not be to your taste, for some reason, but that doesn't make it bad music.
So while it may be objectively good (admirable craftsmanship & feeling) it may not be subjectively good to you (you just don't like x type of music).
>You say "good" when it'd be more active to say "can music be objectively done well"
Good is a general term. I'd say objectively good music is "good" and subjectively bad music is "not to your taste."
AHHHH THE JUGGLA IS HERE!! DUCK!!! WHOOP WHOOP!!!
confront him you little bitch. You said you have friends who know him so you should beable to find him. Fucking kick his teeth in if he actually stole your shit.
but you cant and you wont because you're a fat neet whose lying for attention. This is my last reply
>Are they anything more than average? Definitely not.
I question your standards in music. Both have been on the tops of most lists of good music, by people that matter (i.e. not you and not me). They have both influenced most or a lot of the music we both listen to. By any objective measure, both are good. Well above average. Or perhaps a couple of the greatest bands to come out in the 20th century. Unless you can explain how they are, objectively, not good, then no one really cares. Because all you're talking about, then, is that they don't fit your taste in music.
WHOOP WHOOP NINJA MMFCL DOWN WITH THE CLOWN TIL IM DEAD IN THE GRIZZOUND. THIS FAYGO IS FOR YOU FAM
his songs are him talking, there is no artistic talent to any of them. He is not experimental, since he's performing safely in known genres, he keeps a very specific style to all of his songs which indicate the lack of range. He isn't singing because he isn't exerting his voice and the instrumentation are traditionally structured like any other song of its genre.
Im sorry, but nick cave is uninspired and lacking ballad writer which really points to a dick sucking, cum guzzling nobody with nothing going for him
FUCK OFF YOU FAKE ASS JUGGAHO. YOU WONT SAY THAT TO MY FACE CUZ MY JUGGALO BITCH WILL POP A CAP IN YOUR ASS. (pic related)
>his songs are him talking
No. He uses a range of singing and speaking styles
>He is not experimental
What the fuck are you talking about?
>he keeps a very specific style to all of his songs
Not at all. He's done everything from orchestral to electropop to western to industrial etc
>the instrumentation are traditionally structured
What the fuck are you even listening to?
heres a hint, anything after atom heart mother is reddit tier and may as well be under a thousand tons of shit
its like they got an autistic boy, sat him down at a mixer table and told him to go crazy Anything including and after 1973 may as well never existed as it was garbage
i saw a video on pornhub one time and it had Nick cave sucking on this black mans penis for literally 45 minutes straight. When he asked to stop sucking his dick because his mouth was getting dry, the black man smacked him across the face and told him to start again because he fucked up his blowjob
Then nick cave had to go another 2 hours, it was embarrasing before the black man came in his mouth. He didn't even thank him
This is the greatest band of all time
The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art.
Top motherfucking Pepe
A lot of people also seem to think that the Harry Potter Series is a great work of literature and that Big Bang Theory is quality television. That doesn't necessarily make it so.
Dude come on. Stadium Arcadian was a fucking treasure, and their latest album is solid as fuck. You can't disparage them when they're still making good music after all these years
the wall was a terrible album that was made for a movie, it was not a standalone album. and guess what? the movie sucked
sorry to burst your reddit enhanced tard bubble, but The Wall was an overrated and a terrible entry for Pink Floyd and was arguably their downfall for good music
Remember, atom heart mother was their last good album, anything afterward The Wall was ambient trash which is extremely dated by now, something good music shouldn't do
yet another album praised by stoner circlejerks. They couldn't stop singing about their dumbass asspie friend syd barret who decided to ragequit life
it was a directionless, meaningless filler album made purely as a cash grab
Are you really forgetting what came in between atom heart mother and the wall? how fucking stupid can you be? I never said The Wall was a masterpiece btw, it's a shit album, and indeed their downfall. No Rick Wright = No Pink Floyd. I'd beat the shit out of you if i could.
Mfw when the correct answer was given almost 200 posts ago....
....and people are still arguing
Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.
I didn't read a single word of your post but i can tell you you're wrong. Pink Floyd is entry level trash that serves as cuck feed for the masses
>blah blah blah, Id beat the shit out you if i could
bring it on faggot, i bet you could beat me off all night too
Yeah that was established over 200 posts ago, these guys are in denial.
They're the best, interesting that you don't agree...
I really really like Nickelback
if you dont just 'get it' you feel it. its an enhanced experience that acts as an extension of your body. Im sorry if you dont 'get it' because you never will
only the cool kids understand such complex rhythm that the shaggs possess
shit are they because them knows nobody
them knows nobody because em like just you
nah brah they're shit get over it
Im sorry you cant understand modern classical composing like the shaggs. People like you cant seem to grasp their talent like true patricians
They're pretty good, but not even in the god-tier
Let alone the best
No it's Joy Division. New Order are O-K but nowhere near as good.
See, the thing about Pink Floyd is that they're WAY too inconsistent to be called 'greatest' anything. The run in the 70s from Atom Heart Mother to Animals is pretty unassailable. Beforehand it has its charm I guess, but 60s psychedelia is a bit hippyish for my taste - and as many have said, The Wall was the beginning of the end into meaningless easy-listening slop.
The Beatles are OK I guess. I find their history and personalities slightly more interesting than the music, slightly. It's decent stuff for sure, but not the second coming like some folks make out..
nirvana,motorhead, evanescence, disturbed, nickelback,deftones,system of a down
Waiting for this thread to 404
Holy fuck - honestly listening to Goat for the first time, holy shit this is incredible
