Just my $0.02, I think people in general are sick of reboots and remakes. The difference being that people do love the Ghostbusters movie, but when it came to reboots like Dredd, Robocop, and Total Recall, there was no viewership or outrage.

People didn't care that Hollywood tried again with Judge Dredd; it was a mildly successful comic book, and it was largely ignored both times it was made into a movie. Also, movies like this weren't made to push an agenda - no one had a diversity checklist and thought that was enough to do a movie. Ghostbusters 2016 and it's agenda was clear to a lot of people from the start, which lost interest for quite a few people.

Movies should be entertainment, and the people that would be entertained by this movie aren't going to go pay to see it because capitalist patriarchy blah blah. Sony reduced expected earnings to what, $30-45M, not even covering its production costs and budget? They know their attempt to stir the pot and get people to see a shitty movie based on manufactured controversy failed.

Oh and Paul Feig should learn to not insult the audience he wants to have pay to see his movies, thought that was obvious but he was oblivious apparently.

Social Justice campaigns through bullying, shaming and overwhelming henpecking force to subdue others into satisfying their whims, and watching person after person, field after field, succumb to that pressure is disheartening.
It's like watching your war-vet grandad get turned into Bubba's prison bitch. You respected him, looked up to him, and now he's making excuses as to why he has to obey someone who doesn't give a shit about him. Watching institutes and figureheads we respect get turned into the little prison bitches of social justice is disheartening at best, sickening on average.

Several female coworkers overheard me mocking the SJW aspect of this movie while I was talking to my brother on my cellphone during a smoke break. I found out that they was eavesdropping later that day when I was called into an HR meeting and asked if I had ever referred to the new Ghostbusters movie as "feminist revisionism". I denied it at first, but was then confronted by three coworkers who all said that they had heard me say that phrase and that they had heard me say very misogynistic things while I was talking on the phone. Then I was grilled for about 20 minutes about what I meant by feminist revisionism, which led to me being asked if whether or not I consider myself a feminist and if I had ever watched any Men's Rights videos on YouTube.

I was fired the next day. I was escorted out of the building by security guards while carrying a cardboard box containing the contents of my desk. Women in my office were laughing and applauding as I left. It was extremely humiliating.

I don't understand why everyone is celebrating the box office numbers - if I was an accountant for Sony Pictures I would be shitting my pants.

Look at how other decades-old reboots have fared - Jurassic World opened at 208 million on its opening day, with a budget of 150 million.

Ghostbusters 2016 made their film for 144 million - just 6 million less and made a pathetic 4 million on its opening night.

Sony is large enough that a huge loss millions isn't the end of the world obviously, but they still try and spin it into a success after this?
That's like blowing your life savings at the casino and leaving with a smile on your face, trying to convince everyone else that you beat the table.
