Medfag here, sugar is no more (physiologically) addictive than any other components that are found in food. It's the caffeine that has addictive properties.
My advice - try switching soda for a cup o Joe's (without sugar for the maximum health benefit). Caffeine in itself isn't harmful, it's the sugar and other shit that's in cola that will eventually turn your body into a mess.
Also you probably just made a habit of the sort of a ritual of drinking soda. Same habit can be formed with pretty much everything - running, brushing your teeth, locking your door and etc. Just keep doing it for around 60 days and you'll form a habbit.

For me, quitting soda wasn't that hard. Went from drinking it daily to maybe once a week. Started in college, had a meal plan and water was free while soda wasn't.

Water isn't that bad. I really like the ones that are only slightly carbonated (or you can easilly get rid of the bubbles if you give it a shake and open it carefully and it becomes very mildly carbonated). And the ones who have slight tastes of lemon or mint or even strawberries.
Or you can get some lemons and mint and make a refreshing drink. Way more healthy and less expensive than sodas.
