There's various reasons I don't care for the meat industry, despite being a meat eater.

The concept of entire lives being created just to die for our convenience is kind of cruel.

But even worse, all the space we have to devote to animal farms is a real, practical issue for our environment.

But I can't do away with the meat industry just by going vegetarian/vegan. And I love meat way too much and tend to not think about it too much in my daily life. Like I know my clothes are being laboriously produced by underpaid children in horrific sweatshop conditions, but how often do people really think about that? How often do vegans think about that, and try to do something about it?

If I could have meat through cruelty-free production, I'd be all for it. Like the idea of lab-grown meat appeals to me in that sense. Meat that was never part of a living thing, and could be made to all sorts of specifications that could make it healthier and tastier.

Of course it'll be a while before we're at the point where we're able to produce it at industry levels, and even longer before the prices will be able to compete with livestock meat.

But maybe one day we'll reach that point, and we can enjoy meat without having to create and destroy thousands of miserable, pointless lives every day. I do feel that in the long run, humans can hopefully be better than that (as well as better than exploiting near-slave labor in third world countries). That time is not now, though.

Oh yes, farms are terrible for the environment! Not roads, factories, coal burning energy sources or vehicles. It's the farms.

Just because other things are bad doesn't mean it's not bad as well. Most of the trees being cut down in the rainforest are for farms, rather than housing, factories, buildings etc.

To be fair though, a lot of the farms they're building aren't animal farms, so no animal farms doesn't fix the problem. It just improves the situation. That's still not a bad thing.

It's interesting how both meat eaters and insufferable vegans tend to feel the same about lab-grown meat. Meat eaters don't want to eat "fake meat", vegans think it's unnatural and tend to have a distrust of science in general.

Science can't seem to please either extreme. But most people are moderate, so most people will benefit.
