A limited slip still allows slip to occur and LSDs can wear out if they're clutch driven. Diff locks are better traction aids than limited slips are
Maybe for daily driving and light off road a limited slip would be better but I would still rather have a diff lock and lock it manually. And toyotas diff locks are selectable so you don't have to worry about them being engaged on the street, unless you engaged them.

Well, a diff lock that locks mechanically (detroit locker, lunchbox, yukon etc.) are simpler in nature and are more mechanically sound but they have the disadvantage of always being engaged. While they do unengage when you turn they're still partially engaged making cruising and daily driving less comfortable
Whereas a selectable locker like Toyota's or ARB's air locker completely will disengaged when the button isn't pressed so they'll behave like an open diff until you engage them in which case it is entirely engaged.
I think back in the day toyota used to make cable shifted lockers that could be engaged and unengaged but I'm fairly certain that since the mid 80s or so they've been using electronically operated lockers

This is one of those areas where I actually prefer the automation over the old school.
If you keep the truck stock, e lockers will be more than acceptable because everything will stay sealed. A well done ARB install will also last a lifetime but a common problem of cable shifted things is that cables break and they are usually the weakest point within an application. XJ transfer cases have the issue with their cables snapping. And while I have no experience with cable shifted lockers, I can imagine them being just as difficult as working on any other cable shifted deal. I'm sure there are lever kits to help remedy and remove the cable but I wouldn't know.
And a benefit of the toyota e lockers is that if they do break, they can be actuated manually with a screwdriver, wrench or vise grip and some muscle.

No, that's pretty solid logic and bad seals are a huge problem with air lockers.
Mechanically as far as selectable lockers go, the simplest is probably the cable operated ones. I'd imagine they work well and you really won't expose any weaknesses in a system with basic trail driving. And that if you do fuck something, it can be fixed on the trail. I generally think that selectable lockers are superior to detroit style ones so I'm biased.
Were it my land cruiser I would probably want factory toyota lockers or if I wanted to go aftermarket, ARB air lockers. I kinda wonder if you could get an HZJ79 double cab with cable diffs. Maybe that would be cool, depending on how they're shifted
