She's not ugly, just plump, your typical girl-nerd who's into all kinds of nerd girl stuff and is surprisingly cultured with a fairly ambitious lifestyle and personality. And the cat character was created for her the guy who does the art for Planet Dolan, she's always been an artist, but still. As with anyone it's only natural she'd be self conscious about showing herself on the internet and to be honest there's no real good reason for any female to show her face online.
