The Bible in English is poorly translated.

It supports an Earth age of millions or billions of years old though it does not directly support evolution. Nor do I. I think God made mankind and while the Earth is very old mankind is not.

In good Science there is always room to remove whats was once thought to be true in the light of new, more relevant, evidence - however it must be substantiated, given the limitations of human knowledge in pace with technological advancement.

If it was like you said "You can destroy you own views the same way, but choose not to" then there would be no advancement in technology / sciences / physics - and this is clearly not the case as evidenced by the new advancements we see everyday.
