"Then they fucking ruined it with the whole "love is the answer" bullshit"

Ain't that always the case? Like every time that line comes up I wanna stab the writers.

"its easier to construct and fly a giant ship from earth than to fix the atmosphere" Uh, yeah, it is, we do the first one routinely and can't fathom how to do the second on a global scale.

On topic though, was a pretty darned good movie. Most of the non-speculative stuff was right on the mark, and all of the fantastical stuff was very well planned and shown, with some wonkiness due to all the gravitational/relativistic/time-dilation stuff that happened because SPAAAAAAAAACE

ok so, when they are leaving earth they need a big rocket full of fuel.

but when they go down to the water planet I think, the deorbit, and launch back up on one small tank of fuel.

Am I the only one that HATED the audio in this film? The dialogue was muddy and difficuilt to hear which made trying to understand the film difficuilt... but luckly I understood the science behind it so I already knew what was going on.

But not being able to hear the dialogue properly really ruined this film for me.

Christopher Nolan did this on purpose and its the reason why I hated this movie so much...

It was troubling to me as well, I saw it in the Chinese Theater here in LA in 70mm IMAX, where apparently Nolan spent countless hours testing the sound and picture before the release, and I had problems hearing the dialog.

At least Gravity was scientifically accurate. The worst complaint I heard about is:
"most of earth's artificial satellites travel west to east, while the debris we see in the movie travels west to east."
Interstellar, while bragging about its scientific advisors, has a lot of stupid shit. Examples include:
-a planet so close to a black hole to have tide of that magnitude should be ripped apart by gravity diferentials.
-if the ship orbits that planet, half the time it is actually closer to the black hole than the planet itself, so the whole bulshit about 20+ years difference between the black guy and the away team makes no sense.
-ship travels between planets in a matter of hours, like it's a cheap space opera.

hope you get what i'm saying, I'm doing my best with my broken english

>What is inertia

Clooney actually had built up some inertia forcing him away from the lifeboat. While things such as weight don't matter in a vacuum, the laws of physics still apply.

Without things such as air resistance, in a vacuum he would have floated onward in that direction for all eternity. What he described as weight was actually just the force of his body being pulled away by energy he had built up.

Jesus, shall I green text for you?
>actually jettisoning away empty fuel tanks is extremely efficient, fuel-wise. The tecnique is wasteful due the jettisoned tanks themselves, wich we have to replace every time.

As I hope you can see here, I'm arguing that the practice of jettisoning spent part of the rocket is fuel-efficient. That's because the rocket does not have to lift parts that have become useless. No fuel is "wasted", it is in fact used the best we can with current tecnology. You, on the other hand, said:
>The amount of fuel that is wasted entering the atmosphere is almost unbelievable and laughable.

Sure, in the future we'll probably invent a better way of doing things. Different fuels, maybe, or entirely different engine systems, but the actual present-day fuel is used in the most efficient way it can be used.

>>How he didn't die passing through a singularity, which would rip any vessel or being apart

To be fair, nobody has any idea what would happen to a person if they were to get as far over the event horizon to see the singularity. All the known laws of physics disintegrate once you are past the event horizon.

I love anything Nolan puts out, something about his style just appeals to me. Interstellar was a solid film.

I also am partial to it because it was what I saw with my wife when we went on one of our early dates. Kissed her for the first time that evening. Shit was so cash.

I pointed out that the fuel we have is used efficiently. You started a shitstom about the possible future existence of better, alternative propulsion methods when I never denied that possibility.

You can beg to differ on fuel efficiency all you want, but while I elaborated on my opinions:
>the practice of jettisoning spent part of the rocket is fuel-efficient. That's because the rocket does not have to lift parts that have become useless. No fuel is "wasted", it is in fact used the best we can with current tecnology.
you did not.

The Martian is shit.
Not even a survival movie when you're able to communicate with the whole fucking world when you want, and when you have food, water, and a shelter.

It is based on a graphic novel from 1992 entitled The Death and Return of Superman. He is not dead.

maybe if the rolls reverse.

There's low probability that we wouldn't be an alien slaves if they came in contact with us.

I disagree on the "realistic" part. A retired Nasa pilot recognizes that a disturbance in the dust on the ground is communication by gravity and recognizes it as morse code, which he then translates into coordinates. Lotta other stuff happen that is pretty run of the mill for scifi, then he passes through an event horizon of a black hole. Completely ignoring that he'd be torn apart and added to the mass of the black hole. It's a nice watch, but it's one of the more unrealistic scifi movies.

If you don't mind the use of "the power of love" as the driving force of a science fiction plot, go ahead.

Fella anons Memento and Prestige are his best movies.
The rest is pretty mediocre
>>
>>675604028
You seem a little confused too. We use this much fuel to get a rocket into space because most of the fuel is actually burnt to carry said fuel. Actually little fuel is needed to carry the charge, but to carry the extra weight of fuel you need more fuel etc... It is a vicious circle

>>675590428
I cried and masterbated

>>675613875
Stating the obvious won't change the fact that currently this is the best we can do. The multi-stage rocket is the most efficient method we currently have

If I watched this 6 yrs ago, I'd say the same as you dudes.

Having a 5 yr old daughter of my own, some of this fluffy shit in the movie knocked me hard. Difficult to explain unless you have your own kids.

Damn fine movie in any case, have seen 3 times. Has holes, but that's what makes it fun.

I'd probably write off the ending too if I was childless.

>Also no pics of my daughter, even if you ask nicely.

>>675591492
biggest one was the guy dying on the water planet.

why didnt he just get in first?

as for the chick stuck by herself.

whats stopping her from incubating one egg, raising it, getting pregnant, giving birth, and starting a new society?
>>
>>675613875
does that mean we would actually save money by using a lighter but more combustible fuel?
>>
>>675616576
probably, but finding a way to salvage the jettisoned parts is even better. Check this out:
