Pretty cool country, but really poor. I traveled around Bulgaria for a few days and I gotta say that there's a lot of stuff to see. Some people are friendly, while others are pretty distant towards strangers. Some cities are great( Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo), while others are the worst shitholes in Europe(Tirgovishte). It's pretty similar to my country(I'm from Romania).
Would visit again, if I had the time.

Well most stereotypes of eastern european/ex communist countries coincide with Bulgaria (track suits/rakija/block apartment buildings etc.) . Regional stereotypes are "shop/shopski" basically a stereotype of a dumb sheep herder , attributed to most people who live in the capital(also talk in a simple dialect) . We have a stereotype for the people who live in Ruse (who have a funny dialect) . And then we have the typical mafia stereotype of the people who live in the cities near the sea. We also consider Macedonia as Bulgarian, since their language is pretty much a dialect of Bulgarian and they haven't really been their own country since ancient macedonia.

Pernik/Kyustendil - Hardcore regions, nobody goes there cuz they're so scared being beat up. Not like being robbed or anything, but the culture is really violent and somebody can punch you with no reason, cuz they don't like your face. Of course stereotypes. Spent 3 days at the Hilton in Buldapest (overpriced, despite supposed discount), found better food by the market area (forget the name, was in hungarian, way too goddamn many consonants).
