Nope, At the time Oreimo and K-on were the top and favorite things in anime and it's not cute and many reviews i've seen people called it grotesque and sickening for an anime movie.

I tried hard to get it shown here and even petitioned the animation film fest here to show it and they did. Packed house, we had just watched Heavy Metal. Then Redline came on. Well, even the mixed opinions concerning the ending aside, I was simply unable to enjoy it.
The characters are not enjoyable and the plot is generally just 'What angel is going to be defeated in this peisode?' until suddenly shit gets real near the end. Before that, it's just run of the mill action most of the time.
Also, it tries way too hard with that whole deep psyhological route.
And on top of all that, it's not as much complicated and sophisticated as much as it is just withholding information.

Yo, I watched the whole series years ago. I was a huge DBZ fan as a kid and teen. Not as much anymore but it still will always hold a huge place in my heart.

By the way, I saw Battle of Gods in theaters. I was very impressed. I had some issues with it but I thought it was really well made for a mainstream audience. I went with three people who aren't that familiar with DBZ and they really liked it.

Don't even know how he looks. Gonna try to go in as blind as possible like I did with BoG. I'm excited about the future of the franchise. BoG had the best writing of anything DBZ related by a mile. It shocked me. The humor surprised me the most. It was mostly legitimately hilarious, and DBZ humor used to make me cringe, even as a 13 year old.

Everything Shinji did in the original was a complete fuck up, so with the Rebuilds it's like he has to do everything over again, (but things are harder this time around) he imitates Second Impact early on and fucks everything up some more, so the current events (the rebuilds) are him... paying for past sins.
