What happened to real raves? I've been to so many here in

clubs are not raves and edm festivals where everyone stares at a dj and jumps up and down are not raves. I haven't heard of "real raves" since 1992. They just became no different to a mini festival after that, with fences, security and admission charges etc. Turned it into a nice night out for slightly misadventurous students and clubgoers, I suppose. Utter shite.

It's called EDM now. There is still electronic music like flying lotus or sbtrkt but most of the other Pop stars are edm djs. Quite frankly I hate it's upcoming popularity and I find most of the djs to be musically tasteless

I've been to a few Toronto freeraves. That's where you're gonna find anything close to the real thing. Not at some venue where you're charged to get in and they search your bag, but somewhere under a bridge or in some park, until the cops come and kick everyone out

Out of all the times ive went out hunting for real raves i can say ive only ever found three real raves. Those 3 were probably the best ones ive ever been too though even though they werent as big as say a festival. One was in an abandoned building in downtown chicago the best one was in an abandoned gym building in the hills of san diego and the other one was in a warehouse in some part of LA everything else ive been too is usually flooded with rich white douchers and guidos and drug quality seems to be subpar at festivals compared to what it used to be that rave in san diego i found some of the highest quality molly ive ever done and some tabs that werent the best ive done but damn near. But yea pretty much real raves are really really hard to find especially since now a days clubs try to advertise an edm dj as a rave or stupid shit like that and i never understood festivals like theyre alright but theyre so fucking expensive and theres so many fucking rules and its not even remotely fun unless you can find good drugs not to mention the only places ive ever been ripped off on drugs is at festivals

they used to pack out warehouses around here, everyone knew everyone and the djs were all locals who'd get out there and dance after their sets

the friends, the drugs, the adventures just to even get to the raves

there was a club around here that we would all go to when there were no raves on, always blasted the best tunes and had excellent international DJs

They're still around, you just have to find them. Chicago has a pretty good scene, shit ton of abandoned buildings, crooked cops that dont give a shit. The best stuff is in the outskirts where old movie theaters are failing so they rent them out on weekends on the hush hush, or this one time I remember we had to enter through the alley of a chinese strip mall and they turned a chinese buffet into a 2 story rave. Man those things were dangerous though, a single fire and we'd have all been dead. But it was a good time. I didn't stick around though, didn't like the scene too much. Pretty much exclusively burnouts and losers who thought their ramblings were real deep. Gets boring after a while. Met a couple amazing people but im just sad they're never going to get out of that place.

I'm in London but I never really knew about them until I had gone to Sixth Form in Essex. Before then I had thought that the whole cliche party, drugs and sex scene only existed in American tv shows.

Raves are pretty crazy where I am there are usually a ton of girls tripped out on xtc wearing the least amount of clothes possible, the usual drugged up anorexic looking guys with their tops off jumping around into everybody and a few asian qts. It's pretty rare to see a black person at one of these things but if you do see one they are usually pretty chill.

I've also heard there are a few underground foam parties which happen semi frequently.
I highly suggest you get a white trash friend just for ready access to drugs and parties.

Keep in mind that you will have to travel for a few of these since the way they work here is the rave location stays secret until an hour or so before it starts then a text is sent out.

I once accidentally drove a rave convoy into a cul-de-sac. It was both hilarious and utterly chaotic.
Imagine the whole street was comprised of 4 car households who arrived home at once, and simultaneously immediately decided to leave again. They just drove over the gardens to get out and pretty much wiped out every lawn on this quiet little street. It looked like a tank testing range.

They're still around here in the UK but harder to find.
Luckily for me someone I know works as an organizer for a free party called Secret Circus down in the south west of England.

this is pretty much true, the UK underground scene is the fucking KUSH, well traveled amerifag here. In america you have to be careful as to what producer/dj you see and where they are playing. Have fun at avicci, (who fucking blows) in nyc with bros and basic hoes that heard his shit on the radio. It's a very tight community because that way a lot of problems are avoided with
a) dickish people who go to start fights/get overly rowdy/cant handle themselves
b) creepy people
c) too many people/over occupancy/police awareness

They are really professional and are really doing it for the music more than anything which i really really admire. It's not like some excuse for derelicts to go crazy but rather a place where people can just listen to techno and have a good time together without any worry.

Go on facebook and research popular techno/house music organisations (usually not that big) within the area.
9/10 times the dj's that play for these local organisations also play for raves/local parties.

Look for clubs that focus solely on techno and have more of a local feel to them. Ask where the locals go to club/party.

I met some local guys at a skatepark near me to find out about these things when i first moved here. Before long they showed me the favorite local spots to hear good techno and then from that i found out about the other stuff.

I still have all my old rave gear from the late 90's. It was all Adidas and JNCOS and running shoes and whatever baseball cap you had. (Pic related) the best rave I ever went to was in Louisville ky in a burned out warehouse behind a Chevrolet dealership. There were two big generators outside to power the decks, speakers and a few lights. If you ever do come down to London just make sure you bring a few quality friends with you to watch your back. There's always an extremely rare chance some random douche starts shit which is usually why you always only hear about "that one guy who went to that rave and got killed" whenever people talk about the rave scene here even though raves happen all the time without casualties.

Even if it's just you by yourself you'll probably be fine since the whole atmosphere is just really crazy and friendly

Sadly I haven't been to any foam parties yet since something always came up. I hear these can get really wild since they're filled with wet girls and horny people.

Expect less personal space then you're used to though since these things usually attract a lot of people here in London.
