Why isn't there a /trek/? There's /mlp/ for Christ's sake, but no fucking Star Trek board? Who the hell runs this place?
I'll be the first to ask. Who is the best captain?
They found their way in through /co/ if memory serves. Back then /co/ was welcoming to new users so they learned the ropes of 4chan while still being allowed to act like autistic faggots.
Fun fact: Ponyfags are also the reason generals exist -- they invented the concept.
TNG came out 28 years ago.
i just started watching it, grew up on GoT so figured id like star trek.
I'd still put Sisko above Janeway, though I did like Janeway. There hasn't been a captain I haven't liked. Here's one. Who's your favorite doctor? I really liked the Hologram and Bones, but they were all great. Well, Crusher may have been my least favorite along with Pulaski.
This is what the crew of DS9 look like today.
Time marches on
Voyager at least tried to be NextGen pt. 2
DS9 had everyone fucking each other all the time. It was a soap opera.
Voyager was so tight-assed that ensign fucking Kim turned down Seven.
Sisko was horrid with his autistic line delivery and his preacher BS.
Funny how that extremely overwrought anti-racism episode didn't have a single fucking gay character in it — just like the entire series. (And no, we don't count lesploitation shit from Mirror Universe.)
There are eternal /got/ and /who/ general threads on /tv/. Ive often wondered why there wasn't a star trek one.
You could also tell that Picardo was a step above all the cast members in terms of acting skill. Sadly many actors don't leave SciFi. I could see him doing really well in a lot of different maintstream genres
Yeah Voyager totally could have been darkend a bit. Which would have opened the door to much better character development. Star trek seems to like only developing the captain and a select few of the main cast. In voyager it was the doctor and seven of 9, but chakotay was decent
Chakotay? Man he didn't do anything. Spent most of the series completely invisible besides a couple of "Im an Indian, I have a spirit animal" moments...oh and then ended up fucking Seven despite having no build up at all.
You're right about Voyager though. The setting was ripe for some great storytelling; they just weren't up to it
Voyager is a lot better than Enterprise. There was exactly one episode of Enterprise that didn't totally suck and it wasn't very good either. The only reason it didn't totally suck is because the guest actress was great.
Voyager at least had some decent episodes, or at least some memorable moments once in a while.
No argument here, Enterprise was shit. Voyager had it's moments but damn man; they had so much squandered potential. Thats half of my hate for Voyager right there - they could have done such awesome things and they pissed it away
>Voyager is a lot better than Enterprise.
Enterprise was slow at first but it sure as hell picked up the Xindi Arc and all Season 4. Season 5 would've been the Earth-Romulan War. Voyager started off strong but Braga and Berman were terrible at given the series focus.
Seen them all man. Just got a hate-on for Enterprise. Pandering. Bad writing. Bad acting. Felt the same way I did when I watched SG:Universe or whatever it was called - writers didn't know shit about the product and were pitching their show to some stereotypical basement dweller.
The guy who runs this place is called moot, new guy.
That's moot. Don't capitalize it.
>>Seen them all man.
i said when you've watched them ALL for a few more years, you will invariably come to the conclusion that even ENT is better than VOY.
Lets be real here, we both know both the writing and the acting is far worse in VOY than ENT.
Fuck you Trekkie Scum why don't you watch some good sci fi.
Actually I think that's more than a # of years old now. Whatshisface (guy that played the shapeshifter) has been dead a few years now.
Btw, best trek is TnG, pic related..
I've been a fan of Trek since I was nine, grew up on TOS and TNG. Almost 25, seen everything Trek except the last two seasons of Enterprise and TAS. I like Voyager, but it got slow at times.
To be fair man my opinion of VOY is pretty low as it is. VOY pulls ahead of ENT because of the last 2 seasons with the Doctor/Seven stuff. Otherwise both are pretty poor trek.
I love both. That is possible. Star Wars is more fantasy with elements of sc-fi mixed in. A Sci-Fi Fantasy, if you will.
Star Wars sucks cock compared to Star Trek
I'm 33, and been watching trek since around 9 as well.
I've seen all the series, countless times over.
Invariably you will eventually find that ENT is better than VOY.
I mean you haven't even seen the last two seasons of ENT even once, fucking noob.
I wasn't the guy who said it was better. I liked Enterprise as well. I didn't finish it because my hard drive crashed and I lost it. I plan to finish it one day, but I like the idea of there being unseen Star Trek.
A. Why is the blue skirt doing the hand sign? They're in a situation where phasers are out and it looks like they don't even see the danger.
B. Is the yellow skirt wearing a toupee?
C. Any nudes?
No self-respecting homo would think Enterprise with its tired faux-action is anything other than the tepid brainless drivel it is, coupled with Archer's insanity.
1) dumb brawl
2) dumb phase battle
3) dumb ship battle
4) Archer pontificating and contradicting the position on morality he blasted at you in the previous episode
5) The worst theme song in history.
>I'm glad that I didn't have to say it. VOY has it's good points. But ENT, overall, is god-tier in comparison. I nostalgia hard for TNG and DS9, but ENT has it all.
the eye candy
Looks like somebody wants to suck Janeway's badong parts.
Must be because trekkies are not humongous sperglords and do not spam message boards with their retarded bullshit.
/mlp/ was made for retards to be retarded among each other. Maybe, if you go retard hard enough, you'll get your own board soon enough.
Glad nobody had brought up Abrams. His reboot was good as a sci-fi movie, but it was NOT Star Trek. Spock (the real one) cried two or three times, and only once was he not under alien influence. The new Spock and his relationship with Uhura is BULLSHIT. Pon Farr, J.J,, GOOGLE IT!
He was just using Trek to practice for Star Wars.
you know, I don't even know why, seeing it evoked extreme anger though
yes, I would into that gmilf
Agree. Voy was just a PC fest of stupid..
Still damn fine cosplay babes
>Glad nobody had brought up Abrams. His reboot was good as a sci-fi movie, but it was NOT Star Trek.
I refuse to engage with the inevitable trolls who try to say his "reboot" shit is anything but the crap it is.
Spock is Half-Human. So it's possible that in the reboot universe, Spock isn't as in control of his emotions as in the actual star trek universe.
Just playing devil's advocate here.
Voyager was riding on the popularity of TNG. So was DS9.
Star Trek was dying anyways in the late 90s.
Enterprise would have done fantastic had they done what they did in season 4 in season 3 and got it off UPN
It all comes down to this: Why do you watch the one you like?
ST: Spock burns Bones, laughs are had. Bones isn't a blank, laughs are had. Kirk is kirk, laughs are had. SOMETHING FUCKING SERIOUS GOES DOWN.
TNG: Data. Period. Picard is just eye candy. Q changed your life.
DS9: I... don't know. Quark? He is the most interesting. Odo can sometimes be cool.
VOY: Promise of plot. For once a lead female character that's tolerable.
ENT: Actual plot, eventually. Best doctor and some of the neatest plot devices.
An Ode to Spot...
Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.
It's because Quinto is gay and wanted to show off his acting skills.
Actually I think it was just bad writing from people who don't understand Trek. They picked a good cast, they just made a movie that isn't real Star Trek.
Observe how they crossbred Urukhai and Klingons to create this thing in the picture.
There is supposed to be a new series starting in a year or two. I've heard it may be about Worf as captain of his own ship. That could be good.
I grew up with TNG and it was always my favorite, but as I've gotten older I now consider DS9 the series.Voyager is god awful. ENT is pretty good and contantly underrated. TOS, eh... too old to judge by modern standards.
>I've heard it may be about Worf as captain of his own ship
please not. i'm sick of worf after 7 + 4 seasons. we have seen too much of klingons.
and aside from that: it'll never happen. maybe Renegade will be the start of a new show but it doesn't have much to do with ST
Well, to be fair, it's not like they ever cast any hot guys. There was only one.
Pretty hard to be gay when everyone looks like Riker and O'Brian.
TNG sucked so badly. There were two good seasons. The rest were exploring the feelings of the fucking crew.
I DON'T CARE HOW YOU FEEL. I WATCH A SCIFI SHOW FOR FUCKING SCIFI, NOT FOR YOUR EXTENDED TEEN ANGST. FUCK.
I liked Voyager best, despite that retarded space monkey Neelix. Janeway was hella-hot. Didja see in, I think season one, she was disguised as a prostitute. FUCK!
Sisko was cool until he went feely too, exploring the racist past of America, like only America was racist and like anyone else could put up with his retarded ass monkey shenanigans.
pic related, I voted for him and then his veep went full retard.
Riker pre-beard was super fuckable.
<---- O'brien didnt swing that way
Its Picard then Data but other than that yes
pulaski was much better than fucking dollface crusher.
This isn't a fair comparison and never has been. Kirk in TOS was supposed to be around 35. Picard was in command of a Galaxy class starship and was about 10 years older when the show started. There are obvious strength and libido differences.
My favorites were Picard and Data. But I didn't really think any of them were bad. I loved the stories and the ending of the series and how it all but said that humans were going to be basically be Gods. I never really could get into the other ones except DS9.
They wrote her badly. They always write women badly. She was a shrill bitch who apparently couldn't handle the idea of a fucking robot on her spaceship. There was a great seed of an idea there, a real call back to Bones and his original function...but they fucked it up by making her a bitch to him.
OS really did run out of gas in S3. A lot of those shows were absolutely awful.
Between Whoopie Goldberg and all the Q eps I find Next Gen pretty much unwatchable.
DS9 I've tried to marathon watch, just can't get past first 2 seasons even though I know I like later seasons of the show. Sisko was and always will be the worst fucking piece of shit capt. in any star trek.
Voyager is my favorite, though it's very flawed. A lot of really terrible eps but overall, I still like it.
I liked Enterprise but it became too much. You can't save mankind/earth/the universe in every fucking ep. It's too much. And that fucking finale...GARBAGE.
Kinda agree with this guy. Accepting gays is not the same as putting them in every shit possible. I mean, gays are still a fucking minority and it would unreasonable to expect every company has gay people innit. Just like token black guys. Seriously, if you hang around mostly with white people, why would you include black people in your stories? That would be especially retarded in my country, where we have like 10 niggers at most.
yes that's the reason most people didn't like her. but she made good progress in this one season and opened her mind towards data.
crusher was simply the most useless, bad charcter. ok well, troy was also nothing more than a fuckable babe.
Crusher was one note, for sure. Polaski was frustrating though. She was making a really interesting valid point that sci-fi tries to grapple with. They just failed to make it interesting. And then completely abandoned any attempt at in in Voyager when holograms were real people too!
Kirk was the man....Fuck the ho's slap a bitch Captain....Original concept as a space western....Which Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelley all played....TOS FTW....I enjoyed all of the series although it took me a while to warm up to each...But if I only grew up on TNG I completely understand how you would consider TOS unwatchable...If it hadn't of been for Star Wars we would have several more seasons of the original cast to compare to...
seven was the same BS, just as an afterthought because nobody was buying the relentless PC BS of the entire series to that point. Trying to keep the foreveralones onboard at least..
Michael Dorn has been yapping about his Worf show for years. It will never happen. Worf's solution for every problem is fire phasers. He would blow up his ship before it got out of spacedock.
>2015, too stupid to realize I knew this but thought that was laughable.
Neelix didn't bother me as bad as the story arc with his old lady,,,,Whatever the fuck she turned out to be....The dumbest storyline ever was Paris and Janeway winding up as advanced space lizards and having kids...WTF....
Nigga please. He was just a spock filling thrown in. The actor was awesome, but even as a kid I knew it was just to throw the people that loved ToS a large bone, same for Riker. Which worked in my case as I liked him.
Not saying I didn't like Data, but being the best thing about the series? Plz...
Try out the NEW trek shows, called Star Trek Continues, its amazing stuff, nearly as good as the original series.
No bullshit, its good, and you see many past stars and cameos from sci-fi regulars.
That was true for all the Treks though. Even series tried to recreate the same archtypes, they just jiggled around some of the features.
Spock = investigating humanity from the perspective of an outsider = data = odo = doctor
>Watched, amazing. Still waiting for episode 4. Any news on a release date? Also, they need more Orion slave girls.
Scott is James Doohan's son no less! Did you see the cameo by "Buck Rogers" (Gil Gerard?)
The reason I liked Data was because you can actually see his progress from a fumbling andriod trying to gain his humanity to a fully actualized person. Thought TNG no characters have changed the way Data did.
I didn't really get a Spock feel from Data
>The reason I liked Data was because you can actually see his progress from a fumbling andriod trying to gain his humanity to a fully actualized person. Thought TNG no characters have changed the way Data did.
Data was a shitty character. Any robot thats smart enough to do that can easily mimic emotions.
Because no other character in it was as one dimensional from the start.
They were both non-humans whose function was to challenge/define humanity by their presence. Data wanted to be human and fumbled towards that. Spock tried to repress his humanity and was called on it constantly by Bones who defined what being a person was as anything spock wouldnt do.
And failed....They didn't write the warmth into Polaski...And don't even get me started with trying to generate a love interest in Crusher...She just became the womb that spurned Wesley...Another failed arc...
TNG was total shit. There was no cameraderie, no familiarity. Everybody acted like they were part of an extended family that had incest...nobody was comfortable with each other.
Also it was full of marxist multicultural bullshit. TOS always broke the rules to do what was right...TNG was the opposite, they stuck to the rules so closely they never did anything right and human.
TNG was a great big communist fuckfest. The only good character was the Q-entity, who showed the entire cast what a bunch of stuck up asses they all were.
Data wasn't just trying to understand emotions he was trying to understand biological life as a whole. While Spock may pretend to be emotionless he wasn't. Data literally took himself apart, basically gave himself brain surgery and eventually nodded his being with an emotion chip all to be more human. Hell Data even had a child to try to understand it all.
There is a large diffence between mimicing emotions and actually having them.
I wouldn't really call Picard one dimensional he verried through while he struggled with the responsiblies and limitations of his command.
Spock wanted to act like a Vulcan while Data just wanted to be a living being
Hated Sisco, bad acting was bad. Those last 3 seasons tho...
I never fully understood why Odo had to leave DS9 perminatly to cure the link when it literally took him 6 seconds to do.
I will always have a boner for Kira. She can dominate me any day.
Picard surrendered on the first episode. He's a good 2nd but no one is on kirk's level.
The nigger dropkicked a dinosaur then built a shot gun out of bamboo the finish him off.
No, not even close
Yup. They made her a bitch 'cause they didn't put the affection in there - Bones and Spock worked because underlying their sniping was some genuine respect/feelings.
Which is a shame. The robot thing could have lead to some interesting questions about data's humanity. After the court case there was an opportunity to really interrogate it...and they didn't bother.
Spock wanted to be a Vulcan but that process required not being a human. He struggled as a man stuck between two worlds, his vulcan and human sides. Data wanted to be human and that process required not being a robot. He struggled as a man stuck between two worlds, his robot and wannabe human sides.
DS9 was only good because of the Cardassians. You will admit that Gul Dukat and Legate Damar and of course Garak held that show together, they were far more interesting than the boring federation.
Quark was also pretty good, the Ferengi brought some humor to the stupid show.
What is the argument here...Weren't we stating that Data was the Spock in TNG...Was to try and give a feel for the TOS heads to watch a new series with characters slightly familiar...
I'll speakout on the OP's comment though now. I think there should be a sci-fi subsection, but much as I liked some of the trek shows and movies, I still think there's been other shows that at least match it in impact from the genre.
Firefly, Red Dwarf (may not be the same true category), Farscape, Stargate series', etc..
polaski was supposed to be written that way to mix up the closeness the cast had generated. due to fan outcry Crusher was brought back.
all i want is a new trek series but the network wont let it happen fully. only thing theyve done is explore some new ideas going in a dark direction like the nolan batman movies which means boring plain and dark... so edgy!
for me the best series of all trek, is TNG
I'd like another DS9 with a babylon 5 plot arc. It doesn't have to be grimdark, emo bullshit but it needs some sort of underlying structure. Monster of the week episodes are one of the reasons Voyager blew
Ever watch the animated Trek series? Its pretty good, they do things they couldn't do in the live action because of budget limitations.
I also had some trek comic books when I was a kid, it was interesting. I remember one that was about machines that took over a planet after the living beings died off, so they had to destroy the city builders but had problems because the metal was synthetic, so spock devised a special chemical and they sprayed the robots and destroyed them.
cool memories from my youth
monster of the week may suck, but i do like seeing more of the star trek universe, while ds9 isnt my favorite its one of the things i loved most about it.
i like that trek should be about exploring but in an odd way the space station did that since it was a hub where other races would come.
Too bad that will never happen because the only one's to produce the shit is Bragga....He made Enterprise and ret con'd the entire fucking universe because he felt there was no other place to go with the series that people would watch..
