Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the best anime ever. Prove me wrong.
It's not the greatest. I mean c'mon it's basically "Generic: The Anime". Don't get me wrong I love it though.
Finished TTGL last week, watching eva now.
What next? I don't really like anime, but these two have got me hooked.
Thinking of watching cowboy bebop, but I want another HYPE anime like TTGL
No he just had so much badass in him that when he died he physically MADE the new MC. Kid was a whiny bitch that didnt do shit and got jealous over how hard Yoko wanted Kaminas dick.
>At least it wasnt that shitfest of an anime called Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Why make Simone grow when Kamina was already at the godamn top? You cannot tell me that if Kamina actually got the first mech he wouldnt completely obliterate every enemy he sees. Kamina was literally the "Best" part of this "best anime"
Gurren Lagann is great. Season 2 had me dislike the direction the show was going. I kept on watching though and it got a lot better, further into the plot. Kind of blew me away.
Im not really a fan of the level up at just the right time every episode style of Anime. I need something with an actual intelligent plot.
>Ghost in the Shell
>Full Metal Alchemist
>Every studio Ghibli movie ever
I heard good things about Gurren Lagann. I watched a few episodes. It was fucking atrociously bad. I don't understand why people like it.
Shit quality animation. Shit quality writing. Shit quality characters. Every single character and bit of dialogue is an overused trope.
>plebs, get on my level
This series was a fucking masterpiece. Prove me wrong. Watch the trailer.
Ridiculously low quality? Watching it is like watching something drawn by toddlers or elementary school kids and then shoved into animation sequences.
Also, if what you say is valid and "The entire point" is that it's "over the top and full of tropes", what the fuck makes that any kind of decent?
It's "The best ever" because its' sole purpose is to exist as an over-the-top reference to stereotypes?
I agree with something on /b/ for once
I like TTGL for the following reasons:
1) I appreciate a good WILLPOWER! GAR! anime and TTGL takes it further than any other.
2) TTGL wears its symbolism on its sleeve and ties it all together very well.
3) I draw parallels between humanity's situation in TTGL and IRL; humanity is stuck on Earth's surface but wants to expand into the stars, but humanity's expansion brings the universe closer to the inevitable heat death of the universe (the Spiral Nemesis).
4) My "religion", if you could call it that, can generally be summed up with "Humanism, Fuck Yeah!" and TTGL really resonates with that.
Real main character is pic related
Also, Trigun, so let's say TTGL is the third best anime ever. Although to me that list is fluid and number one kinda changes every other week for me.
I like TTGL for it's animation style which is very distinct what with the exaggerated stretched movements and the heavy fx graphics and whatnot, which is awesome imo.
Also, I like the simplicity of it all, obvious symbolism, simple to follow story. It's so textbook that it's just good. And then there's these exaggerated characters. It's like the whole anime is an ode to taking too far and getting away with it. That's what I like about it. It's not cowboy bebop with it's great score and weird but immersive storyboarding. It's "HERE THIS GUY IS MANLY AND SHE HAS BIG TITS WATCH ROBOTS NOW LOL".
Eva is god tier but I wouldn't compare it to Gurren lagann.
If there is another Gainax series you could compare to Gurren lagann it would be Gunbuster which is a lot better than Gurren Lagann
The first arc was good until Asuna came and started having sex with kirito (second half). but seriously, the second arc was shit the alfheim online, and the third arc was okay, but i couldn't even watch the fourth arc of SAO.
Shitposting aside, SAO isn't terrible. But it is literally babby's first anime.
Like, if you had a friend that wanted to get into anime and had no idea where to start just tell him to watch SAO and take note of the things he likes. Its like a combo platter of anime cliches.
Didn't watch SAO 2 though
Best Gainax show
I enjoyed P&S the ending was lots of fun.
But fuck if they weren't the most unlikable characters from time to time. Like, that episode about Garterbelt's backstory was legitimately cool and they were all "What the fuck ever that fucking boring"
TTGL is fun with the maximum willpower manliness punching themes but in that genre I think I like shows like s-CRY-ed, yu yu hakusho, or berserk a little more.
you should broaden your horizons and try stuff from different genres. I really liked Ping Pong the animation last year.
Fourth arc literally felt like an Asuna side story, which kinda makes sense because the volume after it is a book that's only side stories. at least the arc after Mother's Rosario is actually decent.
You are definitely missing out. I just got done watching both this and Gurren Lagann with my brother (5 episodes of each at a time), and liked S;G much more. GL lost my interest after like episode 18
Steins;Gate, FMA:B, Trigun, Code Geass, and Eden of the East are all series I can watch over and over again.
If you want comedy, check out Squid Girl or B Gata H Kei (Yamada's First Time)
