thanks for letting me know there's more than one

Also, god-tier books
>Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
>The Road by Cormac McCarthy
>My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
>A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
>Icefire by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens
>The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
>The Thicket by Joe. R. Lansdale
and many more, but those are some really good ones

I just read the Hunger Games trilogy. Easy read but entertaining. Looking for more good sci-fi.
Of course a Song of Ice and Fire is pretty bad ass.
>>
>>594429035
I've read Bartimas, awsome books, and no problem
>>
>>594429887
yeah that's one of my favorite series of all time. Really intelligent, humorous writing, and a great story and characterization as well.

Also, he wrote one extra book with Bartimaeus, called The Ring of Solomon. Hilarious, look into it.
>>
>>594429323
Looking for good sci fi? Read Dune. The beginning is rough but it will blow your mind.

This book is so fucking depressing. Jesus fuck he lost his wifu and turned into a properganda shill. Got dam man worst book iv ever read, yet the most important. We cannot let it get to this point. Fuck man

Pic related is a personal favorite, even though the ending is a cop out.
>>
>>594431704
how was the ending of the road a copout?

Also, I don't think the girl in 1984 was his waifu. They just got together to fuck and because they both hated big brother. Then they got caught, mentally fucked, and when released were just drones.

Mccarthy said himself its up to the reader to decide the intentions of the people who followed the boy and its suppose to be "ambiguitous". From everything the book mention the people following him weren't cannibals, they had children too and even a dog so they had some sort of edge at surviving. Why would they follow a father and son and waste so much energy trying to eat them?

Its obvious the family were "good" people.

i will make a list off the top of my head of writers i enjoyed reading. Don't give me some social commentary bullshit, I just want my reading to be enjoyable and/or well-constructed, that's what i consider a good book.

>J.K. Rowling
bitch got a theme park, top that
>Tamora Pierce
yeah she's fat and has fantasies she will never fulfill so she writes about them, but she's built a pretty successful fantasy world that's original
>Jodi Picoult
I cried. I won't lie. She made me cry like a bitch
>Kathy Hepinstall
she's had a couple meh books but Absence of Nectar was great
>Zilpha Keatley Snyder
great young adult fiction I read that shit for years as a kid
>Jane Langton
I love The Fledgling
>Sue Monk Kidd
bitch got a movie, and it was a good movie. Book was better though
>Judith Reeves-Stevens
you need to read Icefire. Really. It's excellent. I don't know why it's not a movie yet. The tech is now outdated but if they just updated it and put like Gerard Butler in as the main character it would be amazing.
(spoiler: I love Icefire)

anyone ever read the wind on fire trilogy?
i read it a while ago but i always remember it.
>>
>>594438181
nope, what's good about it?
>>
I like how I've seen Dune mentioned a couple times, but just Dune and not the other books. Dune blew my mind, but I couldn't even finish the second one.

Also for more mind-blowing, try The Light of Other Days by Arthur C. Clarke
>>
>>594438321
idk honestly
i read it so far back that i forget what stood out to me about it but i know that i have great memories of it
reminds me kind of like divergent but i can't hate on it for being similar because it came out before divergent
theyre similar bcz the setting has a girl and her bro, and the town they live in has these "examinations" which decide a lot, and the girl pretty much says, "fuck examinations" and bolts out
but now that i think about it, throughout the books the character development is amazing, especially for mumpo, the autist (literally im pretty sure he's special eds)
>>
>>594438654
hopefully it's better than divergent, because divergent was boring as shit. Overhyped and boring as hell.
The book was boring
the movie was boring
i kept waiting for it to go somewhere, but it didn't. Best part in the movie was where her mom died because something actually happened, lol.
>>
>>594438832
yeah haha
i looked through some reviews of the wind on fire trilogy and just realized that it might not be the right book because when i read it i was in middle school.
a lot of the reviews talk about how it would be good for a younger audience, but i guess its because i read it when i was younger that i liked it

I think its good too, but I just can't bring myself to read the whole thing. Not because it's 2sp00ky4me or anything like that, but more because the premise of a 14 year old kid doing all this stuff is just way too ridiculous for me, and it makes the whole thing seem more silly and edgy than enthralling. I think the books would have been way better if the protagonist was 20-25 years old.

I read them all over the course of a month about ten years ago. Just blew me away. Card has written a few more since then that I have been meaning to pick up.

While it takes place between books 4 and 5, it mostly centers on Roland's teen years after Mejis. Within his flashback it features another story dealing with a legend/fairy tale (as they are often one and the same) about The Wind through the Keyhole.

I was quite angry when I read it, it felt almost like a cop out. However, thinking back on it, I think now it's more of a rough story outline, like the Hero's Journey, a sort of caste for other stories.
>>

I read every book in that series, really great. Also some extremely good series are the emperor's blades, the legend of zero, and the prince of thorns.

Brandon Sanderson is amazing I feel like no one writes action sequences like he does and the magic systems he creates are always interesting like in the misborn trilogy certain people can gain powers by eating different kinds of metal. and to think I wouldn't even know who he was if he didn't finish the wheel of time. Which I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet even though I feel like it was too drawn out should have been 7-8 books long not 14 if you include the terrible prequel

.>>594439228

Very upset it took someone so long to mention these books though god damn it I want the third one.

Also thanks to this thread I just came to find out that the third book in the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks is out. Can also suggest that.

Metro 2033 is very good, amazing atmosphere and balance between action and worldbuilding. Metro 2034 is okay only because 2033 exists, otherwise it would be a shitty cliche story with supercliche ending.
I'm about to read Piter (same universe but different author). Can somoene tell me if it's any good?

Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs (Hannibal Lecter universe) are decent. Heard that next two books are pure shit so didn't touch them.

From authors I'd like to recomend P.K.Dick, he has a nice, consistent style so pretty much any of his books will do.
