Magicwise, Draconians use freshwater as their medium, think of it as a buffer between the mana/aether and their bodies, as otherwise they would burn. Demons and Djinns need no buffer as theya re beings of magic themselves. Humans rely on tech instead of magic. Mer are trying to convert Croc's magic to work in saltwater, which would make them unstoppable. The termite overminds feed on the spirrits of their dead for magic, and since they live in tunnels made out of the dead bodies, they home is night unpenetrable.

I like this idea. The humans are simply nomad groups around the north. They have a simple social structure where 2 or 3 men and women between the ages of 40-60 lead the rest. The different nomad groups are indifferent to each other.

draconians are crocodile like creatures, they are big and powerful, but now brute-force-dumbass powerful. they are the dominant race, they use freshwater magic. bury their dead, the dead are taken to underground temples of some sort and turned into skeleton soldiers?
mermen are mermen. live in the ocean, eat their dead. desperately trying to convert freshwater magic to saltwater magic. in conflict with draconians.
humans are the weakest race, forced off of mainland and onto the city ships. they burn their dead as fuel for the ships. there are normal tinkerer humans who rely on technology instead of magic, and then there are robotic humans. both on different ships. the robotic humans decided it was in their best interest to but their minds into robotic bodies.
termites- the termites live in the massive mountain that doesnt have a name. their burrows are ful of the bodies of their dead, and they use necro-magic. they can't see but use senses instead
djinns are magical creatures i still dont know all about
demons are a work in progress

So how do you folks like the idea of big fuck mountain currently unnamed because i cant think of one. uninhabitable by humanoid races due to cold and just awful terrain that cant support life due to cold and such. inhabited by stone giants as tall as large buildings and golems. that guard the mountain which contains some giant sentient mythical esque being that sleeps inside or ontop of the mountain.

>I like the demon world concept, but I was wondering if there could be a region or an entire sub-continent that is completely overrun by the demon world/ether/oblivion/what ever it's called. Like during the height of one of the great empires, a huge arcane war broke out between two powerful factions, and as the war escalated, the rulers of the factions started looking into more and more dangerous casts (maybe even deals with some of the higher demon lords). This ultimately led to a tear between our world and the other world, allowing the not only demons and monsters, but the very essence of the demon realm to spill out and corrupt the surrounding land, until it was halted by either human magic or divine intervention. So it would be an incredibly dangerous region, but at the same time would have some of the most powerful and valuable materials and artifacts in the world.

I'll try to recap

Humans booted off main continent (Aroch) by Draconians, a race of lizardfolk with wings they are cunning and calculating and have defeated the Humans and have beaten off the raids by the Mermaids. A race of intelligent sea creatures with a very tribal culture, think Africa underwater.

Somewhere on Aroch there lives a race of Termites, they build giant mounds from mud and the corpses of fallen brothers.

The Humans use superior tech to build floating cities and rule the waves with trading and pirating.

Djinn are creatures that most people don't even know exist, they are ellusive and mysterious, taking decades to procreate they remain hidden with flight and illusion magic.

A door to another dimension has opened and demons have spewed out taken over a whole island and begin to spread.


Magic exists in the iworld with different races and groups having different styles of magic.

another race, this one is all forest-related beings, like humanoid fungi or plants. they are adamant about protecting nature. great warriors because they can control the surrounding plant life with earth/environmental magic. here's their post

I've actually thought about this before. What if an alien race, pure sci-fi, encountered a world like middle earth or tamriel? What would happen? The aliens clearly have technological superiority, but the natives would have magic and fantastical beings and creatures the aliens have never seen before. With that said, I don't know. I think we have to establish the lore of this place first. Is their a universe beyond the planet. Or is it like heaven or hell or the void or something.

sure. when I say steampunk I'm talking about the overall feel of the limit to technology. no fully automatic weapons or cars, or much past medieval era siege engines. But the few pieces of advanced stuff (like the robot people) run off of clockwork/magic not electricity or batteries or anything like that.
