They used just ropes and very little climbing equipment to scale this, they had to be quiet in the dead of night to not be heard, silence was the main part of this mission. A few guys fell from climbing and they remained silent as they fell to their deaths because they knew if they yelled it would danger the Americans who arrived on the beach just moments beforehand.
