Will we ever be free, /b/?

The concept of anarchy is radically correct but fundamentally flawed at the same time.
We as humans deserve true freedom but true freedom is imperfect and impossible

Discuss.
>>
>>590331264
This is correct

The social contract in inherently necessary to protect ourselves from one another
>>
Freedom is an illusion, there will never be freedom, because someone will always have a little bit more than everybody else.
>>
>>590331264
democracy is true freedom fgt
>>
People are currently too stupid to take care of themselves. Give it a few centuries and we'll be fine.
>>
>>590331264
The only thing obstructing 'true freedom' is the human tendency for asshole behavior. If we can figure out a way to detect and destroy those tendencies in the womb, governments will evaporate in one generation.
>>
>>590331525
This might just be the dumbest fucking argument I have ever seen
>>
>>590331496
I disagree, I've seen reasonable thesis noting that the 'social contract' causes more harm, crime etc. than living without it. e.g. crime due to lack of natural social mobility. However I still think cooperative anarchy is a dream only, I just can't see how we would get to a point where it is possible to try
>>
>>590331264
When it comes to political theory and practise, you cannot view things in absolutes. We will never have a society without oppression, but anarchy would be a society with as little opression as possible.

>>590331525
That doesn't necessary invalidate the concept of freedom, true freedom is being in total control of your own person and your own actions.

>>590331627
I really hope you don't believe this.

>>590331745

But destroying those tendencies would completely destroy the whole sense of freedom, would it not?
Since, essentially you're being controlled before you're even born.

Interesting stuff to say the least.
>>
>>590331264

Personally I just want an island and everyone else to go fuck themselves.
>>
>>590331264
If we start changing ourself then we will be free. Question is not if we will be free but if we can be free?

Cooperative anarchy has existed before, in large and small scale(revolutionary spain being the most famous example). The kurdish city of Kobane is being run through a system closely resembling anarchy right now, all while fighting off ISIS.
>>
>>590332288
i like your ideas and your tripdubs.
>>
The concept of Anarchism is utopic. It's not ever going to happen because humans are assholes. Stop dreaming and face reality, m8.
>>
>>590331707
How is it ever supposed to work when humanity is getting dumber by generation?
>>
>>590332567
The Spanish situation was but a brief flowering, the infighting of 'the left' saw to that. Cooperative anarchists and Communists tend to agree, up until a point when they become diametrically opposed. Kobane, good luck to them. A special situation given through isolation. Competing against the organised politics of the rest of the world will no doubt bring it to an end when it reconnects. I'll cheer them on though, who knows...
>>
>>590333019
Not true, every generation has had it's societal lackluster of idiots, you are likely one of them.
>>
>>590332172
>true freedom is being in total control of your own person and your own actions.

This is egoism, not freedom.
>>
>>590332172
>But destroying those tendencies would completely destroy the whole sense of freedom, would it not?
You really need to set down a clear definition of freedom then. If you want to see a world where people can do whatever they want whenever they want... well frankly, we're living it.

As a side note, a seminal text for those genuinely interested http://www.amazon.co.uk/Demanding-Impossible-Anarchism-Peter-Marshall/dp/0006862454/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1420322499&sr=1-1&keywords=demanding+the+impossible

>anarchy
We've always had anarchy. Governments are just strong, intelligent people dominating others.
>>
if anarchy replaced government part of the time we could eventually.nuture.and grow anarchy into the.cultural.norm
>>
>>590333591

The hell we are.
I can't grow or smoke weed.
I can't roam the streets naked.
I can't do anything without being taxed or harassed by my own or any other countries governing body, fuck the system.
I am not free.
>>
>>590333336
Let's not be cynical, the protest and discontent movements have been increasing in recent months after dipping from their 2011 peak. Capitalism will continue to crisis and people completely put off with the idea of Soviet-style revolution will hopefully find new alternatives, even if it won't be called anarchism
>>590333400
Freedom is, in my opinion freedom from coercion and freedom to fulfill your egoistic and social needs

Anarchist are all 17 year old acne faced fucks who blame society for the fact that no one will fuck them but their 13 year old downs cousin

Start washing your face op and go back to fapping to your trap porn 6 times a day
>>
>>590333863
Domination is not anarchy.. it's the opposite
>>
>>590334343
I admire your optimism, I do not share it. But then I am of an age where I'll be first against the wall when the revolution comes...

You have the freedom to filfill your need right now, nobody else is to blame that you're a tard and can't compete and push through
Freedom =/= every retard get's what he wants

>>590335725
I don't have any freedom to fulfill my needs, I need to work 8 hours a day and even after that I barely have enough money to get by. I don't want to compete, I want to live in freedom with my fellow man.
>>
>>590336699
Whoah triple dubs
>>
>>590336699
So your not free because you have to work 8 hours a day?
>>
>>590336699
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-ghpi0AuPw
>>
>>590337059
I'm not free because I'm a literal slave 8 hours a day yes, and on my free time I'm too tired and poor to fulfill my needs.
>>
>>590337059

Well...

When I see people in 40 hour work weeks, I don't think they are free. They don't notice the big picture of everything and are constantly filled with anxiety, hate, and greed. If people have all of the necessities they need (things like food, water, and shelter), they would realize they would never have to rely on anyone or anything ever again.
>>
>>590337693

Exactly what I just said
>>
Ok What type of "anarchists" are there on /b/ ?
>>
>>590338703

I have no idea what any of those symbols mean.
Can you please explain?
>>
>>590337693
You are not forced to work, you are compensated, you have options of employment, you are allowed to make your own economic decisions with your capital.

You are not a slave to your job.
>>
>>590338703
A lot. The only types that don't count are anarcho-capitalists and national anarchists since they seek to reinforce hiearchies and opression, only without a state.
>>
>>590333019
Humanity has always been a handful of winners and huge throngs of losers. That's why through thousands of years of Greek history, we only talk about a dozen people.
>>
>>590334667
anon was saying that "anarchy" is a natural state of being, and governments give us the illusion of an ordered, law-based world.
>>
We gotta change the name of it going forward. We don't need governments. We don't need to be governed. We need conflict resolution. We don't need to enforce punishments, we need to enforce compromises.
>>
>>590339160
Yes I am, 2/3 people would quit their jobs if they won the lottery, me being one of them. I am literally coerced into work with the threat of poverty and alienation. Like most people, I barely have any money to spend. But why would that matter, even if I made a decent wage I'd still be a slave all day.

Anarchist Without Adjectives (me)
>>
keep in mind that freedom

IS NOT

- fulfilling your desires
- enacting all "permissible" actions
- having no morals or social standards
>>
>>590340129

This always comes to mind-

Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
>>
>>590339125
There's more then 1 vlavor of anarchist. You've got the:
> red "Anarcho Communists" (AnCom)
> white "pacifists"
> grey "Agorists" (market based anarchy)
> pink is some gendershit nobody cares about.
> blue "Transhumanist" (scifi guys)
> green "primitivists" they live in huts an shit.
> yellow "Anarcho Capitalists" Philosophical and market based argument for anarchy
> Orange I have no idea.
>>
I never understood Anarchy.I mean you want to live in a free world, but that would mean there are no low that restrict your actions, and that also means big Jamal can rape and kill you without any consequence.Laws may annoy people, you can hate them, but they keep you safe to a point.
