Yes and no. For most average user tor doesnt really make you anonymous. It just makes finding you a really big pain in the ass. I flew over to my friend's house house about 2 months ago. Hung out there for about a week while I visited my relatives also living in the area. Was pretty late at night when, while dicking around on this computer I find a folder conveniently named 'stuff'. In this folder I found a bunch of mtg card images and other folders I presumed were related to mtg. In that folder was a text file named deepwebs and I opened it only to find a huge list of .onion websites. I closed it and went to browsing the Internet when I noticed there was only a browser called tor. So I opened that and I guess it automatically configured itself and opened a Web page saying that I was using tor and my ip was whatever. It hits me and I open up that file and punch in a website. The first was just a bunch of stuff I've seen on lifeleak or whatever that website with the killings is. Anyway I move onto the 2nd and it's a literal ton of cp. I browsed for about half an hour (mainly in disgust I hope) and close everything out and go to sleep. The next day I flew back to my home and went on to taking to my friend for a while and mentioned the tor browser being the only actual browser he had and about the folder with a bunch of mtg card images in it. He asked me if I found anything else in there and I said no and we went on to talking about other things and started playing some supreme commander. A few hours later he said he had to answer the door and turned off his mic. A few minutes later he goes offline and I try to call his phone but no one answered. I called him every day and got nothing until yesterday where some random person answered and I asked them about him and they had no clue who I was talking about. His Skype is still offline.
