So the corps never had a SOCOM unit until MARSOC. Force recon was never a full fledge socom asset. The perks of being in a socom unit are great. More pay (you receive special incentive pay) more money for training, and better missions. MARSOCs been up and running for about 4 years now. If you want to be a door kicker do this or recon. What you don't want to do is 4 years in the regular infantry.

Outside of the ground side I would say something with computers or aviation

I think it has gotten way harder anon, times change and so does tech and fields of study, keep in mind when I'm from the vast majority of people don't know any english even though its the US. Also while we may know the subjects the ASVAB is in ENGLISH and the words or terms change. For example, it asked me what was a catalytic converted and what was it for. I knew what it was and knew its for filtering pulluntants in an automobile system but others may have not know what it is, atleast in english, even less what it was for...
